  1. Why buy anything else than a fullHD TV today??? Especially if you want to play on it, and keep it close to your nose. So the claim that "A 32" LCD TV will typically display at 1372 x 768 (this is a 720p display)" is <deleted> to me.

Personally I wouldn't buy anything like a LCD at Lotus or similar, they don't have the latest models. Go to a mall and get it, Powerbuy might work too.

Get LG, best value vs. specs.

  2. I wonder how the military boys feel now, the Man himself is back as a superstar, with fans all over the airport, he got more people loving him than hating him etc. They (Sonthi) must be grinding their teeth, and filling up fuel in them tanks as we speak.

Ahhh, how i dream that they could just have locked him up in Klong Prem, together with his fancy-ass hi-so wife. There he could have pondered what went wrong, and when...

    SECURITY CONCERNS

Thaksin to go to 'safe' hotel

Police urge people not to go to airport for ex-PM's return, but do not expect trouble

    Published on February 28, 2008

Deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra booked an entire floor of the riverside Peninsula Bangkok Hotel to ensure his and his family's security, sources said yesterday.

Meanwhile, Thaksin yesterday vowed to steer clear of politics. He said he would "never, ever again" enter politics.

"I've had enough," he told Thai Public Broadcasting Service television while at a Hong Kong shopping mall.

National security sources said Thaksin was worried about his safety. He does not want to return to his home, Baan Chan Song La, in the Charan Sanitwong area.

"The hotel has its own helicopter pad and its security system is among the country's best. If something goes wrong, Thaksin could be quickly taken out," one source said.

The date of Thaksin's departure from the hotel was not revealed.

The Peninsula Hotel is situated on the Thon Buri bank of the Chao Phya River, opposite the Oriental Hotel, in Bangkok's Klong San district.

The family of Deputy Finance Minister Pradit Pataraprasit is a major shareholder of the hotel.

Special Weapons and Tactics personnel were sent to the hotel on Tuesday to check security.

Trusted Thaksin aide Newin Chidchob is leading his former boss's personal security plans and guards, according to a source in the ruling People Power Party. Thaksin might visit his Chiang Mai hometown, the source said.

When in Bangkok, Thaksin wants to get a haircut, a massage and eat noodles, according to a politician who was with him in Hong Kong recently. Measures will be tight at Suvarnabhumi Airport for Thaksin's arrival this morning, too.

About 150 crowd-control police officers will be dispatched to the airport to keep order and prevent any confrontation between pro- and anti-Thaksin forces, according to Metropolitan Police commissioner Lt-General Aswin Kwanmuang.

"I urge supporters and opponents of the former prime minister to follow developments on television at home," he said.

Police stations were instructed to provide security for Thaksin and his entourage as they travel, a source said. Police have stepped up manpower security at Baan Chan Song La.

Thaksin, in the television interview, insisted on his innocence of corruption allegations.

"I am confident I am innocent. I have done nothing wrong. I am ready to prove [it in court]," he said. "Many people think I should return home at this time, as the country returns to democracy."

Thaksin said the first thing he wanted to do upon his return to Thailand was hug his wife and children. Both supporters and detractors are expected to travel to the airport this morning.

Interior Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung said security would not be compromised for Thaksin, even though he was no longer a political leader.

"Given recent assassinations of people like Pakistan's former premier Benazir Bhutto, we should not take risks," Chalerm said.

He said he would keep his election promise to welcome Thaksin home.

However, Metropolitan Police chief Aswin said police had received no information of any threat on Thaksin's life. "One man is just coming back home to face justice. There's nothing big about this," he said.

Directly after his arrival, Thaksin is expected to apply for temporary release from the Supreme Court. He faces graft charges related to a Ratchadaphisek land deal.

The ex-prime minister will then turn himself in to the Department of Special Investigation over a separate corruption case, Supamas Israpakdi, deputy secretary-general to the prime minister, said yesterday.

He will then pay his respects to the remains of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, she said.

  4. This is a very sad story, my heart goes out to her family, friends and loved ones.

    http://www.pattayacitynews.net/news_20_02_51_2.html

To see a young girl like this pass away, it just breaks my heart. I work as an electrical engineer, and i think that if someone at the store would have done 'artificial ventilation' (respiration) and/or 'cardiopulmonary resuscitation' (cardiac massage) for her at the time, she might still be alive. There could have been the need for a defibrillator though.

Most of the times when someone suffer from cardiac arrest from electric shock the person can be brought back without electronic devices. This is because death normally occurs from lack of breathing, not because of the heart itself stops delivering O-blood throughout the body. Most of the times the heart still beats some time after the breathing has stopped.

Again, i want to send my deepest condolences to the family. A real tragedy indeed.

It is supposed to be illegal to ride motorbikes on the pavement

Actually, last time I read the Thai "Highway Code" it's legal to ride motorcycles on the pavement, as long as the road is congested.

Are you sure the Code doesn't say it's okay for *bicycles* to ride on the sidewalk/footpath? Can you imagine Harley-Davidson choppers legally clearing the path of pesky pedestrians? Vrrrooom, vrrroooom, vrrrooom."

YES very legal for big bikes too, i take my 1000cc Honda CBR up to the footpath every now and then when the road is packed. Havent gotten a ticket yet. Another thing that becomes legas is driving on the main road under the elevated expressway when it rains. Perfectly legal, i spoke with a cop. I love it, when car drivers thinks u gone mad driving among them. My titanium exhaust says " for track use only" but it scares the shit out of the john's in the cars haha....

  6. Hi all,

I need some expert advise regarding my return to Thailand soon.

I have been staying in TH doing border runs for the last year. I have read about the new visa rules, but its confusing. I am currently in Vietnam. On the 22/3 i hope to fly home to BKK from Korea. If i at that time check the days i have in TH in my (Finland) passport going back 180 days, it adds up to 69 days in TH. I entered TH in the end of Oct -06 got 30 days on arrival and did 2 visaruns before leaving on 2 Jan -07.

So: Can i fly straight back to BKK in march, and get 21 days stamp on arrival? That would be great, cos then i could do a tourist visa trip to Laos and get 60 day visa. Or do i have to fly via Singapore and get a tourist visa from there?

Hope to hear from someone who knows more about this than me...

    Many thanks in advance!!

  7. Hi all,

I have been reading this forum since it was created, nice place, just became a member.

Does anybody know of a guesthouse or hotel, on or close to Sukhumvit 50 (On Nut BTS), that rents rooms by the day?

Another thing, where can i buy a "real" motorbike helmet? Those Lotus helmets (Arai-brand, ~600 - 1000B) are too small for my big head, my chin sticks out at the bottom... :o

    Thanks in advance...

    Tom
