  1. Since passive PON fiber supports 2.5 gbps down, 1.25 gbps up, I was wondering when they'll start offering faster than 1gbps internet in Thailand.

It seems AIS is the forerunner in this regard. As a 3BB 1000/1000 user, I'm jealous of AIS' 2Gbps/500Mbps plans.

    https://www.ais.th/fibre/package.html

Too bad they don't offer 2gbps on all cities, only 1500 mbps for Phuket which doesn't even make sense. Perhaps they'll upgrade fiber lines in other cities in the future?

Does anybody use 1500 or 2000 Mbps AIS fiber yet? If so, how's the speeds??

  2. Too expensive for such a small car. NEDC range is a joke, you can only reach it if you drive 50km/h in city only. Try traveling far at 120km/h and AC on. Charging is probably a pain in the butt with 50KW chargers preferred by Charging stations.

Using the standard 3BB packages of 1Gbps/1Gbps, or 1Gbps/500Mbps, is it possible to achieve 80 percent of these speeds to overseas servers in, say, USA, China, etc?

80 percent? no. Best I get is 650 mbps from Singapore with multiple connections on a speedtest server. It would be lower if I was on 1000/100 or 1000/300. I'm on a 1000/1000 mbps and they give different contention ratio between higher and lower packages.

It depends entirely on the route the PING is taking and just how busy the server is. 200mS is not fast but it does seem that the server is quite heavily loaded

165 - 200 ms is normal to UK. 200 ms doesn't mean server is loaded.

200 ms used to be normal, but with Seamewe5 in use, latency has dropped on 3BB. TOT switched to SMW5 months or a year ago.

  5. Thanks for the answers carlyai

I wonder, why they install or recommend big blue filters along with FRP system? Sand or Echo Clear can be backwashed, Big Blue filters require manual washing or replacing.

How often do you perform backwash for your echo clear and carbon media?

    Thanks again.

  6. Hi,

FRP tanks getting ridiculously cheap nowadays. 12"x52" with valve and strainer for 2600-3200 baht + some more for media inside. I want to get some to eliminate chlorine and odor from government water here in Phuket. I also have Koi fish pond and I don't want to add water with chlorine in it from time to time.

What sort of system should I build? I don't want to use one FRP tank and put everything inside like a layered media. I want to use separate tanks for each media. I don't need water softener so Resin is out of the question. I'm interested in Carbon and Anthracite. Is this enough? Should I add Sand filter before Anthracite? Does it matter what size anthracite or carbon media I buy for filtration?

They suggest filter tanks before Water tank and considering govt. water pressure is pretty high, I guess that makes sense. However, other companies like Pure recommends filter to be placed after water tank and pump. Also, I'm not getting auto backwash valves, but would I regret not buying them? What's the avg backwash time for Anthracite or Carbon media for municipality water? Once a day? Once a week?

    Thanks in advance for replies.

Recently switched from sinet (v good service) to 3BB to get gigabit internet-realising that I wouldnt even get close to that speed on my devices. But I do get 600mbps download on my phone and only about 90mbps on my laptop  (HP g148dx) using ethernet, and far less using wifi.

I dont think I can fix the download speed by upgrading my laptop components (?) but will need to invest in a new laptop .  After attempting to find out on google what spec elements are critical to achieving higher download speeds  on a newer laptop I am none the wiser. Any thoughts or suggestions very welcome please from you technical wizards out there.

Also my new 3BB signal drops multiple times a day and a call to their helpline 2 days back improved it after they did something at their end and I turned the router off for a few minutes after - it still drops but less frequently. They described the problem as an unstable connection (?) which I never experienced in 3 years with Sinet. Maybe a dodgy installation.Dunno.

Your laptop should be fine, get a decent cat5e or cat6 cable so you can connect it by gigabit. 90mbps means you are on 100mbps connection because of an old ethernet cable.

I live in rural Kamphaeng Phet just 700 metres from the 3BB node and they cannot install a fibre optic cable because they say 500 metres is the maximum distance for a fibre link. Their node doesn't even have a UPS so every time their is a power outage of more than 15 seconds the node dies and it takes about 5 minutes to reset. The only people at 3BB of any use are the call centre as the "local" office in KPP has moved and disappeared somewhere.

If you pay extra for the remaining 200 meters, they can install fiber for you.
