  2. Mana said the allegation is an attempt to discredit him and he affirmed that more than one hundred boats were distributed to affected people and they are being retrieved to be returned to the Disaster of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.

It would be useful to see photos to see how "used" the boats are.

"" it would be more useful to see if they are delivering all this bullshit to the farmers to feed their crops ""

  3. One of the few people who might have done some good for this country and due to a political system that allows completely uneducated people to vote and to sell that vote to the highest bidding or most threatening political team , a chance for this Nation to step forward is lost . Instead it looks to a future of lies and deceipt so criminals can avoid punishment .

  4. I recently learned that Swiss people (in Switzerland) have similar gun ownership levels as Americans. Be afraid!

you've been given incorrect information JT. a license for a hand gun in Switzerland is not easy to obtain. fact however is that every swiss male who served in the armed forces and is of an age that he can be called for duty has his rifle and ammunition in his home.

Guess this is so they can shoot down rockets with nuclear warheads , repel tanks and deter aircraft with anti air rifles HUH ?

  5. At 60 years of age , and being reasonably well read on most topics , served in the Military , worked in many different fields with all types of people , my only argument regarding guns , is if you need them for hunting food or defence from wild animals it is ok .

The same rule applies to " wild " people , these people have no morals , no scruples and dont care who they hurt , child adult , woman or baby . The need for guns will cease when the so called " LAW and Authorities' are able to remove these people permanently from society and ensure that the punishment is severe enough that no one wants to commit such vile crimes that cause the community to need self defence equal to the violence in the social structure .

  6. In a society that tolerates 8 year olds on motorcycles on the roads , where licences to drive are granted after 1 lap of a carpark behind the licencing office , where it is impossible to obtain any copy of a regulated set of road rules , where even the police see fit to drive after consumng local alcholic beverages , where it is deemed fit to drive on the wrong side of the road if you need to overtake on a blind bend ,where no theory test is required , where many of the drivers do not even know it is not acceptable to drive through red lights , where the mindset is this is Thailand and we do things the way Thai people can do them , regardless of the danger or the stupidity .

Do not think there is any way to change this country unless you have billions of $$ to bring the necessary actions including education and political persuasion into play hardball , just the political persuasion alone would break most financial institutions .

  7. dam_n near slipped out of my thongs !!

Visited the 7/11 in Chiang Mai just near Sirinart Gardens and while waiting impatiently for my friend to choose some drinks ended up wandering about the store and purchased some additional snacks .

Paid for the lot together and gave the young man the 700 Baht for a 685 Baht purchase and walked outside to the car .

Surprise , surprise turned around about 30 metres up the road to face a frantic young man calling , Mr Mr , Stop Stop .

Figured I was about to get shafted once again , imagine the smallness I felt coming over me when he hands me back 100 Baht saying , you give to much .

I was so shocked I didnt even have the brains functioning enough to tip him the 100 BHT .

Can only say good is where you find it . and its not found in the bars or in the Tourist hot spots , but this is one of several times I have been very pleased at how the normal genuine Thai person will treat me and others with such honesty and courtesy .

Thank you for such gestures as they surely offset the type of treatment that is so often dished out by the trashy people that haunt the tourist trail .

  8. In my Country and many others the freedom of speech ,reporting ,demonstrating and the right to protest all things was hard fought for and saw many people imprisoned , beaten , murdered , despised , ridiculed and prosecuted .

Due to the fact that whole populations of people supported those who had the expertise and courage to make changes ,stood beside them and risked the same punishments we have those freedoms in our countries .

Time for the Thais to stand as a nation , same as we have seen recently in many countries and demand the rights of free people living in a democratic country , or stay silent and accept the situation as it is .

Other people can advise or assist and risk all to help but it is up to this nation of people to decide what they really want and take the action to achieve their goals and their freedom .

Yes I am old enough to remember and to have supported those that paid dearly for my freedom .

And surely many of you , even the writers here are aware that you can be tracked on this or any other website and prosecuted for contempt of the courts and any other power here in Thailand just by posting your thoughts , so unless you are sure dont make silly statements about people commenting because they cant do it in their own countries , this is a very dangerous country to open your mouth in , let alone put it in writing .

I can't wait for the criticism of Thailand to appear on this thread. Some of it will be genuine and offered by decent honest people.

However, I anticipate that much will come from people that are in Thailand precisely because they can get away with activities and behaviour that would get them in serious trouble back in their homelands. B)

Unless of course, it's the opposite and people who criticize here, do so because back home they could do so, but when they moved here, they found out that here they risk prison for the same.

  9. Guess its a bit like a restaurant , to many steaks , to many customers , the quality of the steak drops , the prices go up , the service is non existant , the customers get jaded with really pathetic management , then the customers go find something more attractive , better value and service and so the merry go round goes on its merry way .

I think its time to find a good wife and start living the good life :)

  10. I really thought Thailand was on the track to be the world " HUB " for crime ,major and minor corruption ,racism ,double standards and petty double charging for foriegners .

BUT oh what a dissapointment they have slipped backwards 2 places . Oh dear and this was there best chance at being a " HUB "

  11. The problem they have is that Thaksin's money laundering convictions are not related to post-coup laws.

Maybe they would like to return to a mythical pre-coup world where financial corruption was not an offence?

No, they are trying to argue that the prosecution of such offences is tainted ie no coup, no prosecution.

Do such ideas make sense? Only to so-so academics and grateful red-shirts in the photo. It makes you weep.

When does Thai logic not make the world weep or laugh Hysterically , this type of logic is in complete harmony with their driving skills .

  12. Did they forget to read them their rights before they returned fire?

Armed drug runners die in shot out with police is hardly OTT. What would they have done in the U.S.?

If you can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen.

" Under fire their rights are read to them with the morse code generated by return gunfire , Unfortunately I am from an older generation and have no sympathy for druggies , bludgers , Dealers , Gamblers and many others who abuse any type of addictive substance . More power to the police if they shoot a few more drug runners and dealers before they kill some more kids

  13. Sure, Thailand is a feudal society, but at its current state of development, that's where it needs to be.

According to research at Stanford University, 'stratified' societies are more robust than 'egalitarian' ones.

The survival of the ruling class - and the social structure that put them in place - meant that such societies could adapt more quickly. In the 'stratified' cultures, with a rigid class structures, shortages of food or money affected the poorer people more, while those at the top were less affected and social hierarchies remained intact.

By comparison, in societies which operate along more equal lines, deprivation is shared between the population. They bear the impact more widely and are thus less able to adapt, and slower to recover..

Thus, Thailand needs prosperity before it indulges in trendy notions like 'social justice'.

" Social justice creates prosperity , avoids wars , provides a reason for living and is not appreciated and understood by those who consider themselves superior . This superiority approach has had its ass kicked many times throughout history by , american revolution , french revolution , england's need to create a social and religious justice system to avoid revolution , and very recently all the middle eastern countries . There is more to come , lets hope you learn before it's to late !!
  14. The only way to stop corruption is to stop the corrupt people . when they cease to exist , the world is a better place . Dont believe this , check your history , France , America , lately middle eastern countries , all chopped off the head of the snake . The biggest shame is it seems to grow back again after a period of time .

  15. What a pathetic excuse to say "Not get a fair trial because of racism" in Australia, Factually incorrect and their lawyer must be desperate or else he knows something about the Thai judiciary I dont know.. ? Yes Im sure he does, Another reason why NO government from the "developed world" should allow a foriegner to be extradited to Thailand for a "trial"

Out of curiosity, would you want to be tried in Thailand for murder of a Thai man? Or would you prefer to be tried back home?

Do you think you would get a fair trial in Thailand, as a farang accused of murdering a Thai? I think the concern about not getting a fair trial in a foreign country is a valid one.

That said, extradition should proceed in my opinion, because Australia is where the evidences are, and while they are innocent until proven guilty, proving them guilty should be given a fair chance. What kind of investigation could be done in Thailand for a murder in Australia? And the victim's family shouldn't be forced to fly to Thailand to seek justice for a crime committed in Australia

PERSONAL OPINION IS THAT A THAI HAS A FAR GREATER CHANCE OF A PROPER TRIAL AND A FAIR OUTCOME WITH LITTLE OR NO BIAS IN AUSTRALIA , AS WE HAVE SO MANY ANTI DISCRIMINATION LAWS THAT ITS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE FOR AN AUSSIE TO GET A FAIR GO .

On the same note an Aussie is murdered in Thailand , it is automatically an accidental death with scant regard for any sort of an ethical investigation .

So again personal opinion as an Aussie , if your going to commit a crime and your a foreigner in Australia , chances are nearly 100% that you will get better treatment than in your own country and a fairer trial than Australians themselves .

  16. As an Australian , i find it highly offensive and distinctly repulsive that a Thai Court might even consider not allowing the extradition of these suspected murderers . They have agreements with Australia and other countries to respect each others laws and rights .It is time for Thailand to grow up and to take part in the real world .

I for one am seriously against allowing them to enter Australia or any other country and have citizenship , land ownership , businesses or any of the other things they deny foreigners in Thailand ..The discrimination in Thailand against non Thais is outrageous and to think they believe it is ok to murder foreigners overseas as they do here in Thailand and expect to be allowed to get away with it is BULLSHIT .

THE AUSTRALIAN , BRITISH , AMERICAN EUROPEAN AND ALL OTHER CONCERNED CUNTRIES NEED TO EXPLAIN TO THAILAND WHAT HUMAN RIGHTS AND EQUAL RIGHTS IS ALL ABOUT .

AND YES PERHAPS HE WAS CALLED A STUPID ASIAN BECAUSE HE BEHAVED BADLY IN ANOTHER COUNTRY AND SHOWED A COMPLETE DISREGARD AND LACK OF ACCEPTANCE OF OTHER PEOPLES RIGHTS AND WAY OF LIFE .

  17. "We have 4,022 people in Phuket with HIV/AIDS: 2,687 are male and 1,335 are female," Dr Wiwat said.

.....Ninety-three per cent of them were infected through unprotected sex, many through having sex with a random partner," said Dr Wiawat.

A further three per cent contracted the anti-immunodeficiency virus by sharing needles when using drugs, he added.

Most of the cases reported to the Phuket Health Office were daily-wage laborers."

The ratio of males to females seems surprising, if 93% of infections were through unprotected sex. Since it is supposed to be easier for females to catch HIV through unprotected sex, one would expect the male to female ratio to the be the other way round. I wonder, if males are reluctant to admit intravenous drug use for fear of arrest, or if females are more reluctant to present for treatment at all. I would suspect both to be true, particularly the latter, i.e. that the number of females is actually higher than the number of males. It is not clear how the balance of 4% of cases are believed to have contracted the disease. Anyway, these stats look highly unreliable and are probably vastly understated.

I Guess your just not in the age group that witnessed the homosexual spread of this terrible disease about 40 years ago . Girlfriends and wives who had bi-sexual partners often only found out when they were handed their official death sentence by the medicos . Yes I am one of the so called Homophobics who often made homosexuals the " butt " of the jokes and despised them as well . No I havent changed my attitude because now I am seeing the results of the laws that were made to stop people discriminating against homosexuals and or people with AIDS .and no I dont make any apology about my attitude but would like to see the military and the Gay communities who started this wildfire disease accept some responsibility and do a lot more to help and protect kids from getting or inheriting this disease .

but looking at all the topics from HIV to lack of education , the end result is no one gives a dam_n and no one accepts any responsiblity to the future generations .

  18. Retirement extension

As do many others I ask the same questions ,

1 . When will a retirement visa actually mean I can retire here ?

90-day notification of staying longer than 90 days

2.Why is it necessary to have 90 day reporting for retirement people ?

    Permanent Residence

3 When will Thailand extend the same living opportunities to me as my home country Australia does to Thais and all people throughout the world who apply through the proper channels for permanent residency etc ?

4 When will I be allowed to earn interest on my bank account ?

//Edit: banking question. Not suitable for meeting with Immigration Commissioner.

    5. When will Foreigners get a fair deal from the police and the government on their treatment by some of the more radical Thais who think we are fair game for fraud , cheating , financial shakedowns , physical attacks , murders etc ??

//Edit: political question. Not suitable for meeting with Immigration Commissioner.

6 when will foreigners be given proper legal and social rights when they stay in Thailand ?

//Edit: political question. Not suitable for meeting with Immigration Commissioner.

  19. NanLaew's farm is now totally inundated with up to 2m of water over the highest parts and road access cut by the floods to about 800m from the gate. Compensation paperwork being filed.

Now, what to do with all these pigs, ducks, chickens, dogs and the bloody outlaws that are squatting in my back yard?

The fish all swam away apparently.
