  1. Do Thais need a visa to enter cambodia? I don't think they do based on ASEAN membership and also based on the amount of thais that cross the border daily

Flew into P.P. three weeks ago using a Thai passport. Visa and $20 fee for me.

If I've crossed the land border to visit the casino, no visa, but then again, you aren't allowed to go beyond the casino's.

Going with my wife and two children next month for a week. So my wife will need a visa but what about my children ( Thai passport ) ? Do they need a visa too or can they go on mine or my wife's ?

No, you will all need a seperate visa. A couple of ways to do it.

    1) Go to the embassy in BKK - usually a PITA for most people

    2) get an 'e-visa' online. You'll need scanned mugshots though.

    3) Get one on arrival. You'll need 2 photos as well as $20 per person. The desk at PP airport is pretty modern and efficient.

There is one other way and also the most cost efficient and least amount of hassle.

You could dress the kids in rags, don't bathe them for a week, and just tell them to amble along waiing at farangs and asking for money.

I doubt anyone will notice them. It saves you a load of paperwork, $60 and they may even get a few baht out of the farangs.

    I'm a genius, I know.

  2. You could always buy a cheap 2 x wireless surveillance kit, around $70 from Ebay.

They connect not only to your pc for recording onto your hard drive, but also to your TV at the same time.

The cameras are wireless and work up to 200 ft (70M) from the receiver, this would enable you to set one up from your house pointing to your car and one in your car pointing in the direction of your neighbour's house.

These cameras produce a fantastic night image, so darkness is not a problem.. Also installation is instant.

Then go and trash his plants.

You will have 2 great lines of view to catch your neighbour in the act should they attempt you extract their petty revenge on your car again. Which i believe is almost as certain as god made little green apples.

You will have all your evidence for the police, and you can have the first keying repair done at his expense as well as the second imminent attack. In a perfect world, he may have his residency or his visa revoked for criminal damage. If you want it to go that far.

It's always better (and shows a stronger character) to rise above all of this.

But lets be honest, revenge is bitter on one end of the stick, but oh so sweet on the other.

  3. I may have an interesting adage for anyone interested.

Has anyone heard of the Dyson Air Multiplier?

    11621910672.jpg

It (I believe) only uses 50 Watts.

It is cooler than a conventional fan.

Has no blades, so there is no air buffeting, which is the major annoyance factor while trying to sleep with a fan. The technology creates a really smooth airflow.

My friend has one, and I have one on the way.

They are about $300 USD to buy, i think you can get them cheaper as always on the net.

But you can get the Chinese copy, (which is the real thing without the Dyson branding, and is unlicensed). For around $120. At that rate if you replaced your aircon for this for 8 hours a night, you should save around 1000 Baht per month and you may even fall into the free electricity bracket which means it pays for itself in just a few months,.

  4. Why do we constantly read about Thai wives killing farang husbands?

I do not recall ever reading about farang husbands killing their Thai wives.

Soon we will read about how HE made HER do it and that her Thai lover was not involved!

Pathetic how violent these sawadees really are!!!

Every now and then there will be an article about a farang killing a Thai woman. Usually those cases are not about a married couple but about a boyfriend or customer. But you are correct, I also cannot recall (but I am sure someone else can) a case where the farang husband killed his Thai wife.

    TheWalkingMan

Firstly, RIP for the poor guy and condolences to his family and friends. I remember one case where a New Zealand guy killed his Thai wife in New Zealand. That story made the Thai press. There seems to be quite a number of these types of crimes in Thailand, I wonder how many case are treated as accidental, suicide or covered up.

They probably get away with it because as other people have mentioned they are educated and of course much much more clever, wouldn't be that hard for a clever person to "get away with it"

I am a tad confused with this follow up to these quotes.

It would not be hard for a clever person to get away with it?

But the suspected perpetrator was immediately arrested, how clever is that?

I don't think intelligence or the abundance or lack thereof, has any bearing on it. For all we know his wife may be wracked with remorse. Certainly at the minimum, regret.

To say that they are so clever they can get away with it, is like saying the legal system is so much administered by stupid and unintelligent entities, that it would be simple for the educated to skirt justice.

    Hmmmmm.

Maybe, maybe not. But i personally think... maybe not so.

  5. Well to be honest i could have there or there abouts on that imahinary list.. We had just moved into s amall room, brand new inside, around 4500bht a month. Nice room, for one, not that it was small, but simply me and the mrs needs lots of room away from each other.

well weve just had a row, i hsdnt even raised voice at her and BOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM she charges me with me 2 knives, one very large the other around 6 inch spud oeeler,, so i shoted in sgression OIIIIIIIIII stop it now, you cant kill me. She stopped in her tracks and asked me why ( very comicsl looking back). I ripped open my t-shirt and shown her a tattoo on my chest and said " have you forgotton already" lol, superman tatt.

So she dropped the knives into the knife tray and then went into the shower room to carry on washing clothes.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,now if theres 1 thing i hate its when a woman is talking about you in a bad way in another room, when all the time its going through my mind that shes attacked me with 2 knifes and we had only been together s few months.

So i picks up the smallest knife, walks in the shower/wash room and shes crouched down doing the washing, so what i ment to do was say " Nobody threatens me with a fkn knife, bitch" and towards the end of saying it, thow the knife against the tiles on the wall and then for it to drop hsrmlessly 0n the floor or bucket.

Sadly even superman messes up, as her hand was the rased it to hang up an item of clothing the knife was in flight and went right inbrtween her index finger snd thumb and into the vien.

Sorry for swearing but there was so much blood and the more blood she seen the more and more she screamed and she wouldnt let me anywhere near her to sort it. This was with the tap running awell , yet there still blood rivers flowing.

It made me think if she had of turned around at the time, it could of gone into eye ball, throat.

Anyhow were still together knocking on a year now. She stopped using knives around 2 months ago ( yup she would still use them ) as she went into the flesh of my knee and wanted more, i recon when she came out of her physcotic state she was more scared than me, especially as i left her once she went back to work.

Phew.... lets all hope we never read about you in a similar incident in the future. Good luck mate.

  6. A monk in our village regularly pulls up in a new black pick-up in front of the village shop.

Last Thursday I was in a 7-11 at 8.00 pm and a monk bought 2 chicken pies, 3 sandwiches, a loaf of bread and a bottle of coke.

The Thais say nothing though, so I resist sticking my oar in.

Did he proceed to exit the shop and start munching on his feast? Was he maybe not buying this for someone who wondered into the local temple, homeless and half starving to death? Maybe a wayward westerner, reduced to the status of a bum. (to quote Withnail & I).

Without the whole story, we can only make assumptions that the Monk was obviously doing a very bad thing. Because that is what the majority of people on here seem to prefer.

Do not judge, lest thee be judged thyself. (I think).

  7. I'm not sure the motive for the killing has yet been established.

If the reason was to get her grubby little paws on his money and business assets, then i think she may have waited till he was populating a balcony over 30 feet vertical. Or maybe have him shot in his car at the traffic lights on his way home from the office to make it look like a road rage incident.

The facts are still very hazy, and what we has is via a not too well translated Swedish news source.

Usually when there is an inter-relationship murder for gain, then there is usually a conspiracy, or at least a little cloak and dagger.

What we do know is that he was stabbed to death and his wife immediately arrested as the perpetrator.

Sounds more like an act of rage rather than greed.

I would imagine we will have more of the facts later.

  8. I think 20 years here, and deeply involved in the business world with farangs as his main client, he must almost certainly be a regular user of these forums.

He would obviously have had no idea that when he made his final post, that the next time he would hit the forums, 'his brutal slaying' would be the subject up for discussion.

Just a little food for thought when you sign off.

  9. If the monastic authorities were more careful about who they accepted as monks, they would be more worthy of respect. There are many very good/honest monks... but there are also many who are nothing better than parasites.

It is not in the nature of the monastic authorities to vet who is and who is not ordained as a monk. All I know is that almost every male in Thailand will at some point become a monk, even if for only a day.

But believe me, they sleep in a small room without air conditioning, and they have no furniture and only a thin rice mat to sleep on with no mosquito net. When you become a monk, you really part with comfort. I can hardly agree that this can be construed as parasitic.

Monks are not expected to deliberately suffer hardships as a means to gaining enlightenment. However, the teachings of Buddha states that to forget your material ways and your wanting of comforts, helps to un-clutter and purify the mind which leads to enlightenment.

  10. had a first class sleeper on the overnight train

from bangkok to nong kai , shared with a monk .

some kind of religion , not travelling with the poor . :jap:

That was obviously as a gesture from the train manager. I doubt he even paid his fare, it is normally (not always) waived.

Don't allow Buddhism to be confused with martyrdom, just because they are expected to shun their personal modern trappings whilst pursuing homage, does not mean they have to live like animals and force themselves to suffer, as to gain some sort of absolution.

That is not the intention, the core basis is be nice and accommodating to everyone and everything, all life is sacred and life is god. To fend off an air stewardess's or a train manager's alms so to speak is like denying the merit to the individual offering the gesture. So it is as good to accept the good deed as is it to furnish the good deed in the first place.

    It's simple really.

  11. My supplier charges around 5 baht per Kilowatt Hour (1 KWH is a unit)

A KWH is what 1000 watts per hour equates to.

I see your aircon uses 1660 Watts, which means it uses 1.66 kilowatts of electricity per hour (running constantly) or 1.66 units.

1.66 x 6 baht = 9.96 baht per hour.... But don't panic, an aircon unit only run constantly until it gets to the set temperature then the thermostat knocks it off, until the temperature rises and it cuts back in. So unless it is a really hot hot day and you have it set to 18C or something, then you can expect it to be off for half the time... so maybe it consumes only 5 baht an hour x 8 hours a night = 40 baht x 30 days = 1200 baht per month.

Having said that, the insulation factors in your property can have a swaying effect on how long the unit runs for each hour.

Your unit is actually very powerful compared to mine which is quite modern and only consumes 750 watts per hour.. your unit is more than double the power of mine, so it maybe quite an old one or just one that was design to be used for a larger zone.

If you are staying put for quite some time, my advice would be to ask your landlord if it is ok to sell the old one and replace it with a nice new modern one with a remote control unit. I can't see them disagreeing, as you are upgrading it for them, and you can maybe get 5000 for the old one and put it towards a nice LG unit same as mine for around 18,000 and cut your bill in half... The saving will offset the cost in around a year.

  12. people r entitled to make mistakes...............

if it continually happens then come back and post!

    Negative post again mrdeedee?

I think the OP is trying to find out if it is an isolated case, or a regular occurrence actually.

You really need to restrain yourself from moderating the threads in here.

  13. I think the OP might be a little thin skinned. Moderation is pretty good here and doesn't allow nasty comments. And, when the occasional one slips through, it doesn't last for long. Besides, a nasty comment says more about the person who writes it than it does about who it is directed at.

Thaivisa DOES however, allow debates on controversial topics. Debates by their very nature rile up people's feelings. I'm amazed at how many people get upset by someone else's point of view. When you take such a diverse group of people there are bound to be some disagreements. If you don't want a disagreement then go to one of the sub-forums that deal with specific topics... such as where to buy a good hamburger.

And, as far as starting a new forum where everyone agrees, then good luck with that. What a boring place that would be. Don't talk about it, just try to do it. Action speaks louder than words.

Whoever said anything about banning or weeding out disagreements... This thread has got so distorted by comments and replies by a minority of posters, that the whole thing becomes muddied, and nobody seems to know what they are talking about any more.

I am only referring to the members who read through what starts as a serious question and all its replies, and then spot maybe someone who mentions their gf, or wife or mother, as an example, then they like to poke in with an insult about the said poster's girlfriend, and maybe will insinuate something vile or perverted.... as a deliberate insult to get the blood up. then it is usually followed by a retaliation, and then followed by more idiot comments, and before you know it, the original topic is way gone.

Let's face it.... we have all seen many a thread go down the tubes this way.

i enjoy when someone starts a thread and instead of getting a positive reaction, get s majority negative ones, thenchanges his view trying to fit in more:lol:

Who is changing their of view????? You were actually the member who spurred me to start this thread, with your lewd insinuations about my girlfriend when all i was doing was adding to a topic to say she was over educated and in my opinion underpaid. I believe you called her stupid, and insinuating how she maybe bumping up her income, and that her and her family were lying. You also insinuated that i was a liar. Where do you feel that you are qualified to comment to a total stranger about his girlfriend and her family... Yet I reported your comment, but there it still is... So obviously this forum thinks you have an entitlement to be deliberately rude and cruel to people.

You are one of the reasons that this forum will one day cease to be.

Everyone give him a big round of applause.... he successfully managed to upset a newbie and got the website banned.

  16. It seems to me that its mostly the newbies that are insulating and trollish here. During the red shirt rally we got a sudden influx of new members - which in intself is not an isue. However, it seems a lot of those kiddie posters that frequent YouTube and many forums around the net taht spit out vittiol at every opportunity - hijacking every thread they post in and attack posts and posters with bigotted insults - many of these posts are posted in the early hours and are obviously from people that have nothing to do with Thailand at all, but just use it as a playground during recess!

I've been here a fair while now (since early 2003) and I have a distinct feeling that there is a real need to boost the amount of moderators - it seems that some posts, usually the most popular/political ones, are well moderated (perhaps even overly so sometimes), but other post go wothout so much as a visit from a mod. I realise that much is reliant on reported posts, but it is not always so easy to pick a specific post when a hijacking or attack is taking place - they are not allways straight flames. I feel that the mods are sprading themselves too thin. I rememebr people gettign abnned very easily in the old days - Blue Cat, Whirlwind, and many more - seems as time has gone by people are allowed much more flaming freedom than these poor sods got.

I do not know what the banning/sinbin policy is here, but I would suggest that new m

New members getting negative points need to be looked at - and should be dealt with more severely. We need to attract the right sort of people, not the morons that do nothing to help the site and just derail the thread and upset the posters. These people should be discouraged.

The culprits seem to be the same people over and over again - there may be need to record their IP Address so when the reregister using a different Hotmail address, at least you can keep an eye on them from the go.

Why do we need more policing and yet more censorship ?

I think the opposite is the case.

TV is over moderated to the point of stultification.

Indeed.. then one day you will click on your bookmark link for TV and you will see a totally white screen, apart from the following message.

Because that is what happens here when a website gets out of control, and who will you blame for that?

Who exactly will be blamed for that??... Me???.. or all the bad, useless and insulting posters who claim that this is an open forum, so they have a god given right to inject whatever crap they want 'openly'.

Truth is, I am a webmaster and i have run lots of sites I have developed until i make them profitable, then i sell them. i can assure you, this is a very, very profitable website. The more popular it is, the more profitable it is and the more it has to be controlled.... Don't spoil it for everyone else. this is a great place to get serious and accurate answers to a question, until the fools spot the thread, and destroy it by nit-picking the replies and the posters, then all the idiots come out to play. Then the topic is lost... what sort of contribution is that? That is why the idiots need to be gone, no matter how many posts they have, or how long they lived in Thailand.

For the benefit of those who cannot read Thai, the message translates to English as:

    "Sorry for the inconvenience.

The Ministry of Information and communication

has an order to suspend the release site that you want to visit.

Because it may contain text or images that it deems to be inappropriate.

    For more information visit www.amd.com.

Ministry of Information and Communication Tel: 0 2141 6950.

I have built and run websites it Thailand. (for the benefit of the member who tried to educate me on that point). I know what is acceptable legislation governing content on public websites.

The insulting and criticism of Thai culture and the Kingdom and its people will only be tolerated up to a point, then it is removed.

So, before you have your few too many Changs, and come on here for a bit of sport fishing, remember..Someone is paying for this website to serve you, so don't take the p**s out of them.

This was started and in the main, is run as an information site. The idiot webboards are the other way.

  17. A study of the OPs post history is interesting as he frequently runs down posters as idiots.

He also objects to the Cambodian Border police requiring a visa for his thai girlfriend despite http://www.mfaic.gov.kh/evisa/ a visa being required.

He can be quite abusive at times. His forum may be interesting.

My post referred to my girlfriend not being allowed into Cambodia as the police officer pointed out.. "NO THAI PEOPLE IN CAMBODIA"

As far as I am aware, thai people do not need a visa for Cambodia. If you are going to read my history... read it, don't glance over it and respond incorrectly.

I also posted a response to the average wage for thais topic, and stayed on topic quoting that my gf only earned 8300 per month despite holding a very good bunch of university degrees, only to have replies about my girlfriend and her family's intentions towards me, and that they insinuating that she was maybe a prostitute and a liar.

    IS THIS RIGHT????

  18. Don´t let the door hit you after you leave

Some people here see things not through the rose colored spectacles of newcomers.

You are right there are idiots here but the problem is who is right and who is wrong. You can´t really moderate everything.

True, but in another topic, you have one dumbass poster trying to insinuate, that another posters' sister in law may have went to another country for sex work, when it was already explained what she was doing. What could possibly be right about that? I don't see any reason to let those posts go undeleted.

That is exactly what I am saying... It is the unnecessary offensive and lewd comments that are being totally unmoderated, even after reporting, they remain, so much for 'rules of the forum'.

I just cannot for the life of me think why these sort of UNSUBSTANTIATED claims such as the above quoted example points out. You trying to say, people who have been in Thailand a long time have enough experience to be able to make these accusations about people whom they have never met??? I think not.

These forums are not correctly moderated, and if you think it is cool and interesting and entertaining to watch someone bullying another and think it is great fun... then all i can say, is that you were clearly bullied at school, and now you are one of the bulling gang.

    enough said.

I think i will now start an alternative forum, if only to see how well it takes off.
