No need to appeal to anyone, just get together and all refuse to pay 1 week. An empty market will bring change quicker than the military can most likely.

Would be nice if it really worked that way, but extremely hard to do since vendors must continue to make a living/earn money (they just can't go setup a new stall anywhere and quickly), probable threats to life and limb for not paying/leaving, and Thais generally don't t take such drastic action because it causes direct conflict which Thais try to avoid. Thais are just too passive for their own good sometimes; then again being too aggressive can be just as bad.

"and Thais generally don't t take such drastic action because it causes direct conflict which Thais try to avoid. Thais are just too passive for their own good sometimes; then again being too aggressive can be just as bad."

I think you'd be surprised how agressive Thais actually are when money is at stake. They'll happily knee-cap and maim for 500 Baht owed! If money - not passive but meanly agressive

    Please don't generalise!

Great news that the farmers are getting paid, they have used as pawns for too long.

The Junta has been allowed to get the loans that the democratically elected government was denied.

of course that's right, great news though and the coup will take the credit but the reality is the banks were ordered to do it when they did not previously for political reasons

whatever I'm pleased for the farmers who have severely suffered

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This may well be true, but a bit of clout works wonders and the farmers hopefully will get their promissory note's exchanged for real cash!

  3. The 16 Predictions of Buddha - taken from http://www.meditationthailand.com/16predictions.htm

    1. 2482 - 2492 B.E. Evil era.

    2. 2492 - 2502 B.E. Visiting friends era.

    3. 2502 - 2512 B.E. Losing territory era.

    4. 2512 - 2522 B.E. Havoc era.

    5. 2522 - 2532 B.E. Land taken over by the outlaw era.

    6. 2532 - 2542 B.E. Prosper socialite era.

    7. 2542 - 2552 B.E. Admiring the traitor era.

    8. 2552 - 2562 B.E. Grievance land era.

    9. 2562 - 2572 B.E. Alleviated world era.

    10. 2572 - 2582 B.E. Worry free era.

The present time is in 7th era "Admiring the traitor" it’s an era that unmoral attitudes affect the country, causes the country to be disunited, facing all kinds of troubles. There is a forecast toward the end of year of the dog 2549 B.E. period of moonless nights. People will suffer from many causes. This is called 8 distresses and they are:

Distress from flood coming from the melting ice mountains which raise the sea level

    Distress from selfishness

    Distress from lack of food

    Distress from family separation

Distress from death in the fields

Distress from inconvenience to leave the country

    Distress from inability to sleep

The capital did not only suffer from war but also from other endless problems. These 8 distresses will occur in Thailand and other democracy countries because people will abuse their rights and ruin others' rights without shame. They only focus on self profit. The mass media war clash with the government will occur. The experts will get talkative yet pointless.

Government minor officials will become scapegoats. The top administrator will bring their followers as subordinates. Many groups will use the country's benefit as a front to build trust from the people. These types of people only seek to profit themselves. It will not be long before we get to see for ourselves. As a matter of fact, the author learned from many teachers about forecasting Thailand and the changes in the world mentioned. The seas will become mountains, mountains will turn into flat land, villages will become cemeteries, and humans will eat dogs. Bullies will takeover again. Those that believe that they are in the upper class will wear skimpy clothes or non at all. Modeling will become undressing (calling it a new fashion).

Worms in the pool & new food stacked on old plates?

I find that hard to believe.

Unless they only ate in that hotel, they will have a hard time proving she got food poisoning there.

Could have been from anywhere they ate...

Could have been from something she touched that was contaminated by someone not washing their hands and then she didn't wash her hands. Not sure she has a case

  5. The army declared martial law without consultation with the civilian government. A total breach of a very fundamental democratic principle (civilian control of the government) as far as I know.

Sometimes I feel bad that I hope for a foreign intervention on my own country.

The way I read the Constitution, it states the Army doesn't need permission from anyone to declare Martial Law. But the King has to give an order for Martial Law to end.

    Is this right?

  6. Hi Jan

Tops in Central Plaza has a good range of flours for baking, also Macro ( out near the airport ). There is also a deli that I know, tell me what you want and i'll see if they can get it for you.

  7. It's time for embassies to issue stern travel advisories against coming to Phuket, i.e. don't go there unless your trip is absolutely essential. Leave them on until police can demonstrate significant progress in cleaning up the gangs of thugs that prey on tourist pedestrians and motorcyclists, armed with guns, knives and clubs. Also clear up the jet ski scams and similar.

I think the time is getting closer when Insurance Companies will stop Insuring travellers that holiday in Thailand and other countries with similar crime rates. It's a shame that it is left to the people who worry about profit at the end a the finacial year to deal with problem of people who worry about how much they will get if they accost holiday makers. No one else is apparently dealing with the issue.

  8. It's a bit embarrassing to constantly read remarks from people that chose to live in Thailand but spend all there time knocking it. If this country is that bad, that you have to make fun of it's people, health and governments all the time, maybe it's time you moved on. Or at least come up with something more contructive than one liners that are derogatory.

  9. It's interesting to read all the criticism here of how 'badly' Thailand has handled the situation with the unspoken implication that that posters 'home' country would have done 'better'.

Think back to Katrina as an example, and the biggest country in the world did no better in a crisis situation.

They don't want to hear that Tatsujin, they'd have nothing t bit ch about ..........

  10. I'm thinking you might be right about Thai dogs being afraid of storms. I live in the city, 4 doors down from a temple, lots of dogs in my neighbourhood, but when it's about to rain, or you heard thunder in the distance, not one to be found. Soon as the storm is over, there they all are, sitting outside the temple as if butter wouldn't melt in their mounths lol :jap:

  11. I'll be Solo, my bike doesn't really lend itself to Ladies riding Side saddle .

Why not lead Kd. we can all stop when you need to. I can be at the back and we can communicate with the Headset's unless you and the wife are going to be wispering sweet nothings on them :)

  12. I Just love it biggrin.gifunsure.giflaugh.gif
