  1. Teddy, welcome!

My suggestion is just take the leap of faith. You'll be right as rain in Chiang Rai. Great town, wonderful friendly people.

I live in the horrible evil big city to the south known as Chiang Mai. I keep threatening to move to CR, but it hasn't happened yet. But it will, eventually.

I was 54 when I just one day decided to sell everything I had in the US, cash out, and move to Thailand.

That was 4 years ago, and it was one of the better decisions I've made in life. I had visited Thailand previously, dating back to the mid 1970's, so I had a good idea what it would be like.

Good luck to you, and welcome to the forum. :)

The more I talk to you guys, the more I'm sure I'm doing the right thing smile.gif

  2. jubby, I have great cards and no complaints about them. I know you envy my cards. Now, if she's a Pom, living in Oz, then things are worse than I originally thought. Poor thing. Two strikes before she even arrives. We will get her sorted out though. VF and I love a challenge. Bite me lol

Quote .. What makes you think she is coming here to study Limbo? Or is this a typo?

Limbo OML my backs screaming at the thought of it, please tell me it was a typo biggrin.gif

Thanks so much Kandahar will follow the links in your other mail for Pee

  3. Hi Jubby

Bourbon Indeed !? ....... Do you play bridge ? No, but I can learn, that's the point of the exercise, it's my time to do what I want. I really loved Chiang Rai, not BIG like Bangkok. Touristy, but not a rat race like Chiang Mai.

I'd like to have a smattering at least of Thai, but lets face it, I'll have the time to learn more than that lol

Gardening will be wonderful for you here. I haven't got a green thumb, but i love orchids, so looking forward to a green house.

Lmao, i really couldn't see me on a starter bike or any bike at all, I'm not there to maime people biggrin.gif

Whats wrong with Needlepoint teddy . I do needlepoint :) It's called patience or lack of lol more to the point.

Chiang Rai's a good choice Teddy. I see the ladies are a bit quiet but they'll contribute something I'm sure. A couple of Ladies got in contact in private chat, very helpful indeed. Plus kandahar has been very helpful.

Merridian ?? nah did Dusit Island, wasn't impressed.

  4. So what are you into Teddy ? besides Skiing ?

I guess its quite important as you'll have a lot of time on your hands here maybe .

    Socialising ? Golf ? Motorcycles ? gardening ? Needlepoint ? ...... I bet you like a nice G&T with Cynthia don't you :D

lol the skiing thing wasn't my remark, socialising yes, gardening yes, learning the lingo yes, just doing my thing, definitely not needlepoint biggrin.gif and not G & T .. Bourbon is my choice

Buttons ! and yes, prior experience may help but its not necessarily a requirement .

    Yours truely,

    A Rotten Pommie barsteward ;)

Yes, i have been to Chiang Rai, also Chiang Mai, Kanchanaburi, Bangkok, Cambodia and Laos, not much time spent at any of them, but enough to know it's where i want to be

  7. Went to ' the boys ' forum by mistake lol .. good start .. not .. but they were very helpful .. I'm 58 and thinking of moving to Chiang Rai .. will be applying for a ' retirement ' long term multiple entry visa .. so will have 3 months to see if it's gonna work. Have been looking into Rentals ( Lanna Real Estate ) and health Insurance ( Bupa ), anyone got any suggestions of things i haven't thought about and things i need to know, look forward to hearing from anyone smile.gif

  9. ' a calming influence ' well i'll try, although not to sure i'll succeed.

Anyway, I'd better get out of here, and get some things done.

When can we expect you ? :)

by the way, Have you checked out the ladies section of the Forum. They can help with the Girlie things some of us basic types know nothing about .

House goes on the market November .. as soon as it sells im gone

  10. My two baht here. As the others said, store your stuff and come have a look. I also volunteer to pick you up at the airport. Lots of short term, cheap places to stay while you have a look at the rentals.

As VF said, come for a week, stay for a lifetime. That is true. At any point that it might start to look scary, the same airplanes are operating to take you back "home". So, don't come here afraid. Come for a visit and relax. You will soon find yourself at home, here, instead of there.

I am sorry to hear that you are Australian. But as some of the others from there have learned, this place can cure you and we don't hold it against you. You will be normal, like me, in no time.

PM or e-mail me from my profile page me if you need me for anything. Glad to help.

I'm not Australian, although have lived here for 40 years, I'm a Pom ( which actually could be worse ) biggrin.gif but don't hold that against me rolleyes.gif

  11. That's the whole point of the exercise, my time now, kids gone, hubby gone, want to do what i want, and why shouldn't i. Will look into health insurance, health good, but shitty back, but if i watch what i do, all's good with that

  12. No need to know a thing. Just do it. A little, on the job training, after you get here and everything will be as right as rain. And there is a lot of that lately, rain that is.

Come with the idea of staying a few months, and if things workout, just stay indefinitely. It has been done before, more times than you could imagine. Enjoy the adventure of it all. :)

I'd be coming over on a ' retirement ' visa .. 12 months multiple entry .. that is after i have qualified .. ie money in bank, proof of address after 3 months .. will have to store furniture til after the 3 months, just incase all goes pair shaped, will have to get a furnished place til then. I really want to do this, but it scares me to death lol

  13. Ok guys, need help, thinking of moving from Australia to Chiang Rai, will be doing so on my own ( 58 yrs old ). Might need a point in the right direction, things you think i need to know, and whether this is an absolutely bloody rediculous idea lol
