  1. I wounder how much she paid for it...?......:whistling:

What a pathetic, sad, petty-minded response.

Classic cheap shot from an armchair warrior. When did you get off your backside and do anything beneficial for this country?

    Get a sense of humour......Pleeeeeeese....:jap:

So you are telling me.....British honours/titles etc have never been bought ?....:whistling:

I do plenty of things which are beneficial to this country, what do you do ?

I thought the titles of Sir and Lord were the ones that can be bought. You buy them by making large donations to the Labour party or the Consevative party. MBE's are for normal people who have done something to merit it.

  2. ไก่ทอดหาดใหญ่ (gai tord hat yai) is pretty good. Located slightly before Chiang Mai gate, on the inside of the moat. It's small cart outside a lighting/electrical shop. Only during the day I think. Good fried onions and garlic on the side.

I prefer the rotisserie chickens myself (not 5 Dao). Don't know of any in town though, I get mine from a guy on canal road, out past the Samoeng junction.

    cheers

I agree this chicken is very good, maybe the best. The guy must make a tonne of cash.

  4. They are easy to find in Chiang Mai but i know thats no help! In BKK i would try Probike, soi sarasin near a corner of lumpini park. They will surely have panniers. Another area with a selection of bike shops all close to each other is Luang road or Thanon Luang. The best directions i can give are the road is not too far from Hua Lampong train station if you are heading towards the Golden Mount. Another way to get to this road is take take the 147 bus outside MBK center. After about 2 km the bus should be Thanon Luang. Look out for the bike shops. and get off. There are 3 or 4 near each other.

  5. ...well actually when i said business filled up with kids and women it was actually just a few minutes prior to doors closing, not during flight...anybody sits in their seat with no one next to them with a minute or 2 to go, has a shock when its suddenly filled up...of course thinking they have it all to themselves...by that time.

anyway it only happened the once with qatar airline and no sympathy from them....

all done now, but using Qantas next month ....i hear that if you havnt bought a business class fare with them then thats your lot....fingers crossed..

I fully agree I have seen this in Business 3 times now on Qatar and will not use them any more. Only seems to be on the Doha/Bangkok/Doha legs.

I have been upgraded to business 3 times DOH-BKK. Everytime its because economy section is full and it helps the airline sort a problem out. Qatar business class is excellent especially so when its a free of charge.

  6. I don't know of any used bike markets in CM but if head south out of the city on the Hangdong road past Tesco but 100m before Big C and the junction. There is a small shop normally packed with second hand japanese bikes. Its close to the pedestrian foot bridge and the turn off for the Lanna school/ Grand View estate.

The bikes are normally all over the place being rebuilt after arriving off a container. They are all used with some unusual designs amongst them. If you know anything about bikes you may be able to spot a better one. Even though these bikes are old and second hand the quality is better than thai made bikes. They go for about 1500 baht but i was not buying and i am sure you can bargain the price down.

  7. You can get some good quality panniers for less than 2000 baht. They are normally branded Merida (but actually may be a dutch design) and they are waterproof and well made. In Bangkok you should find them at any semi decent bike shop ie the ones that sell Giant , Trek, Kona , Merida bikes.

  8. I hope you are renting, Monitor the cracks. If the cracks become wider i would be worried. If the cracks are anything like a 10mm i would move out.. A hotel collapsed in Korat years ago. The staff were reporting cracks that were getting bigger. The managemnet said nothing to worry about. About 3 weeks later it fell down. 100 people dead? I can't remember. 1996?

  9. They have been preparing for Children's Day...which is TODAY so prepare for a heck of a lot more noise for longer periods.

I got stuck at he airport once for threee hours on Children's Day a few years ago because flights are delayed so the airforce can show off thier flying skills.

Just a pity they don't have any Red Arrows here. :(

Didn't they pass through here a year or two ago? Great team. Wouldn't mind seeing the Thunderbirds and/or Blue Angels either but not going to hold my breath for them either.:whistling:

Yes they did pass through a few years ago. Just an overnight stay. No display. When they departed the next day they took off in a tight formation and and flew close round Doi Suthip, off to India. They looked like a flock of birds above the trees.

  10. the train is safe . first class is comfortable. you will see none of the good scenery on the night trains which have first class. the best trains to see the country are the day trains that depart at about 0830 from bangkok and arrive in chiang mai at about 2130. its a one class service with aircon and airline style meals which are not very good. take some of your own food with you. its flat all the way to phitsanuluk after that it gets more hilly and interesting. the last few hours are in darkness and will be very tedious. thai trains are ranked slow, slower and slowest so you never take one if you are in a rush. on a long service across country assume it will arrive about 2 hours late and plan stuff around that time. third class is fine for travel of a few hours and very cheap. the northern line will be washed away on some bad days during the rainy season and the service may be suspended for a few days or longer. if you don't fancy the the 14 hours from bangkok to chiang mai break the journey in lopburi, phitsanulok, nakhon sawan etc you normally can buy the tickets the day before with no problems as long as its not a holiday time.

  11. a family of geckos live in a bit of roof space at my place. they come out at night and have never been any bother. sometimes you see their droppings and you can clearly see semi digested cockroaches and bits of scorpion. it is very rare to see a cockroach or a scorpion at my place so i think they do a brilliant job hunting them every night. i am glad they are there! the last i heard, about 10 years ago kids could get about 30-50 baht per gecko they had killed with their catapults.
