  1. You have it the wrong way round. With weed like any other drug or food product which is going to be available to the public the onus should be on those producing and selling the product to clearly prove it is safe and to highlight any risks (particular groups of people or ways of using etc) and take steps to mitigate those risks. The Opiod Crisis is a pretty good example of what can happen otherwise. In the case of weed historical statistics are going to be hard to use to get a fair picture of safety or otherwise as if it did cause a traffic accident or industrial injury people may not always admit that a then illegal drug was involved.
  2. with the regular amnesties how long will 8 years actually be. 3 years / 2 years /
  3. If the kids had been the ones to kick the <deleted> out of the cops I suspect they would get a bit more than a telling off.
  4. But sadly not enough and so it is the innocent Ukranians dying. Nato could declare a no fly zone over civilian areas and refugee corridors. They could insist that any missiles, artillery etc targetting civilian will be taken out by NATO drones and airstrikes after all that must be helping Russia if their cxlaims that it is Ukranians attacking their own people are true. If that causes Russia to escallate good at the moment they are heavily ties up and very weak. Five years from now when they have earned some lessons rearmed and deployed T14s and other systems they will be much harder to stop and still trying to get NATO to backdown over fear of escallation when they attack the Baltic states, part of the Balkans or wherever next. Of course as you seem to suggest we could just allow Russia to recalim all of eastern Europe and put the polulations under the horrors they experience under the USSR. Back to when I spent 3 years in the early 80s waiting for them to assault western Europe as well.
  5. No such thing as nuetral. You either do something positive to block Russian aggression or or you trade with Russia, allow it's banks etc and provide active support for it's destruction of Ukraine.
  6. The figures are meaaningless without a lot more claricication of their definitions and methodology. What is their definition of an expat ? Am I one now that I have retired and earn no income ? Here in Koh Samui does it include the horde of digital nomads who are often paid offshore ? What about the others working cash in hand doing yoga, hairdressing, building work, diving etc many of whom do not declare their income ? They probably also exclude some nationalities from their definition of Expat but where do they draw the line ?
  7. There are obviously a lot of poor people in Thailand but overall it is no longer a anything like a poor country. The average household income in Bangkok is 42,000 baht per month although it is much less in some other areas. There are also 19,000,000 registered vehicles in Thaialnd and in some areas car ownership among adults is 60%. That suggests quite a few people are able to save 100,000 or more.
  8. In the first Gulf war the western alliance did what it should have done now in Ukraine. They threw out the Iraqi invaders of Kuwait and liberated the country. Obviously oil was a significant factor as well as the morality and Iraq was not a nuclear power. The second war was foolish, but even then it never had the intention of being a permanent land grab and the mass destruction of cities and murder of their inhabitants was never a deliberate policy tool.
  9. Sadly most countries principles will vanish very quickly as they suffer minor inconvenience form rising petrol prices etc.
  10. Actually Thailand signed an offensive and defensive alliance between Thailand and Japan on 21st December 1941 just a couple of weeks after Pearl Harbour. On 25th January 1942 Thailand declared war on both the UK and the USA. Apart from the dates I agree with you though.
  11. Not sure where you are in Thailand but here in Samui I have met quite a few Russians and the vast majority have been really nice people. Mostly 25-45, well educated and no lovers of Putin and his regime. I guess that is why many are making a life for themselves here.
  12. Those promises informal assurances were made to a different regime which presumably gave similar assurances that it would not start conquering an empire by invading Chechnya, Georgia, Donbas and now Ukraine.
  13. The Russians I know in Samui almost certainly have an even worse view of their leader than you do. One reason so maany are here.
  14. I suspect many of the comments you object to are from those with longer and deeper experience of the real word. Probably those brought up in a time when people could think and analyse for themselves rather than those brainwashed into woke groupthink. They have probably worked out that different cultral and historical backgrounds do mean that different groups around the world do tend to have different behavious, motivations etc (good or bad). I also suspect they probably feel it is pretty hypocritical and extreme agist bigot trying to lecture on everyone is the same.
  15. Interested to see how they can manage this to allow these overseas visitors to travel freely all over the country. After all even local Thais cannot and have to deal with a range of rules in different provinces and districts. They also will not have Mor Prom as proof of vaccination.
  16. I don't think it is too unreasonable if Thais also have to pay. Of course I don't think it is great advertising. Pay 500 baht to visit while our tourism sector is screwed up so that we can fix things up sso later tourists have a good time.
  17. In Samui a large proportion of the arrivals were not tourists. Some were returnees (Thais as well as Foreigners) who would otherwise have done quarantine in Bangkok. Some were coming to take up jobs. Others were kind of tourists as visiting friends and family. Real tourists coming for a break to enjoy the island were very sparse.
  18. 90% of motorcyclists are probably killed by car drivers who give them no consideration at all.
  19. This is Thailand so obviousy these rules would only be for the likes of us not the rich or influential.
  20. So all the sandbox tourists who were vaccinated overseas will be unable to fly, go into restaurants etc. That should get them flooding in.
