  1. Hi, I'm a new maths teacher and we are using Pelangi Publishing (Thailand) Mathematics Textbooks and Workbooks for Pratomsuksa 1-4 and I desperately need the teachers guides for P1-P4. I went to the publisher's website and the links to the teacher's guides are all broken! I emailed and called the publisher, too, but no response. Does anyone have the teacher guides for P1-P4 for the latest Maths books by this publisher? If so please message me and I will give you my email so you can send it to me...I really appreciate your help!!post-114167-13995304524566_thumb.jpg

  2. Sorry if this has been covered before, but I did a search for a thread but can't find anything. Just looking for suggestions where I can get a nice cold beer and maybe an appetizer in a place that's got air conditioning in CM, in the old city or not too far out, say a 15 minute ride. Not looking for hotel bars like the Meridien where a small bottle of beer once set me back 240 baht. I have been to the beer area in the basement of Kad Suan Kaew where they have the Elvis dude singing, and it is indeed air conditioned and the beers are reasonably priced. Just want to have other options. Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

  3. Has anyone seen the Asian guy dressed up as a WWII Japanese foot soldier walking around the old city, rifle strapped to his back and all? Wondering I anyone knows what the deal is with him.

  4. First of all, it's good thing that your focus is on teaching Thai high school kids math (I'm from the U.S. so I leave the 's' out). I teach math to primary school students grades 1 through 4 at an international school here in Thailand, and I'm sorry to say that about 85 percent of them have absolutely no interest in math and/or are dumb as oxes when it comes to learning math, but they are quite beautiful kids inside and out and I adore every one of my students and their well intentioned parents. I have spent countless hours creating fun and captivating math games to help my students learn math, mostly to no avail, and I am drained and spent of energy and at age 57 I think my stint is coming to an end, and perhaps someone thirty years younger with the engery and drive could keep the fires burning. Best of success to you!

  5. Hi, does anyone if there is a Krungsri Bank or Krungsri ATM within the old city? My employer is starting to direct deposit my pay to Krungsri and the only branch I know of is at Airport Plaza, but I live in the Nimmanhaeman area. Thanks!

  6. Found 'em!! Go to Sports World on the 2nd floor of Kad Suan Kaew and in the sneakers section there is an aisle with three different colors of shoe trees, and for only 100 baht per pair. Thank you everyone on Thai Visa who responded.

  7. Spent all day at Wororot Market and then went Central Plaza looking for shoe trees to no avail. Simple plastic ones are fine, they don't have to be the fancy cedar ones. If anyone has seen them around would you please let me know? And, no, they're not for my flip flops. ;Dpost-114167-13923710185503_thumb.jpgpost-114167-13923710304298_thumb.jpg

  8. Hi, I brought some Stevia sweetener for my coffee from the U.S. but my supply finally ran out. I found Stevia at Rimping near Airport Plaza, but it's got an odd flavor and doesn't completely dissolve. Anyone know of an alternative Stevia source here in Chiang Mai...or is anyone going/returning to the States anytime soon who can bring back some Stevia for me? I would, of course, pay you. Thanks!

  9. My wife and I ate there recently for the first time. I'm sorry to say that it was bland. In fact, my wife and I almost remarked at the same time that the sauce the butter chicken came with tasted like Campbell's tomato soup. The osmosis were also a bit flat and the green dip uninspiring. We are always willing to try a new Indian restaurant, but we will probably be going back to Le Spice.

  10. Hi, I am an American man in my forties. I received my TEFL certificate earlier this year and have been teaching at English camps and giving private lessons mostly. However, I been offered a full time job teaching kindergarten in Thailand. I would like to hear from male teachers who are either currently teaching kindergarten or who have done so in the past (as well as from female teacher who have an opinion about male kindergarten teachers). Being an uncle to kindergarten age kids, I like being around them. Should I give it a try or pass? Your input greatly appreciated, thanks.

  11. Thanks, everyone for your insightful replies. Well, today I finally found the culprit. Went to the AIS office with my receipt in hand to inquire about what's been going on and the rep behind the counter noticed that the phone number on my receipt was one digit off from my real number. Seems the last rep I got when I renewed my data plan typed in the number wrong. So when I topped off my phone with 200 baht my real data account was already expired! The supervisor came out and apologized to me about the mistake made by the rep (I think she got written up for it on the spot while I was there) and they reinstated both my data plan and all my minutes, so I feel really good about the outcome. I was afraid that I had signed up for something and was unaware of it and that was the reason my minutes were being eaten up. Problem solved, I hope. And again, thanks for all your helpful replies. Much appreciated.

  12. I recently brought my unlocked IPhone 4S from the States. I went to the AIS store here in Chiang Mai and signed up for the 599 baht 3G data plan and also bought 200 minutes of talk time. That was at 10 a.m. and I have not called out or received a call at all today, and yet when I just checked my minutes by dialing *121# I was shocked to learn that I now have only 143 minutes left! What the heck? Anybody know what might be happening, and how to get to the bottom of it? Thank you on advance.

  13. My wife and I live in Chiang Mai, too, and last week made our first visit to Phayao. We really enjoyed the charming feel of the town, especially along the lakefront and had a wonderful sunset view with the mountains in the background. There are also a number of good restaurants along the boardwalk. We would definitely put Phayao on the list of places we would consider moving to if and when we get tired of the city. Phayao is a couple hours away from Chiang Mai. We are intermediate level Thai speakers so it really helped as English is definitely not spoken as widely as it is here in Chiang Mai, so that's something to keep in mind. Best of success!

  14. I suggest buying those sticky mentholated pads which you can find right here in Chiang Mai. The Japanese brand is called Salonpas and they come in various sizes. They work very well in my opinion, if you can't find a heating pad. If you are in too much pain to go out and get the sticky pads for yourself shoot me a message and I will go get them for you and bring them to you if you live in Chiang Mai.

  15. I've been looking for one of those locks, too. I live in a condo building and recently I noticed that my keyhole was tampered with, probably with a screwdriver in an attempt to start it up and steal my scooter.

Also, someone was telling me that there is a type of motorcycle battery trickle charger available here that uses solar panels. I have a trickle charger in the States called Battery Tender Junior but you have to plug it into an electrical outlet. Anyone seen these solar panel trickle chargers for a motorcycle battery? I am going back to the States for five months and will be putting my scooter in storage, but want to maintain the charge on my battery.

  16. The Sunshine House in the Santhitam neighborhood is very nice and rents by the month, and it's not too far of a walk to Huay Kaew Road, Kad Suan Kaew mall, etc. Also, Chiang Mai Lodge rents by the month, too. However, neither one of those places has a pool or gym.
