  1. About two years ago i went to my thai bank in bangkok and got a cheque nade payable to the person who owned the house for the agreed sum.

I stayed there for around two years doing standard visa runs ect. I obtaind a yellow book for the property in this time,

Some time later when i was not there my partner died, there were to my knowledge no one else living there.

my question is this; what powers do i have over the sale of this property?

the family as far as i know are quite happy with me taking controll as long as i give them something so what powers do i have in this situation?

  2. Because of recent events I was thinking about geting a water purefing plant in the house, so after doing a bit of online homework It advised that i got my water tested to see what it had in it ,as it said if you done this then you knew in which order to put the filters in you machean.

When I lived in France I took my water to the local Pharmacy and had it tested would this be the case here or not?

  3. What on earth are you all talking about? A Dam is built to hold this much Excess water for only this long and then Oh my god look out! What about the structure further down that holds the bulk all year ,do you think they put more cement in that bit.

As as far as i can make out they just haven't realy got any thing in place to deal with it when they are full up, For Example I was in Bangkok last week and tied to get a canal boat from Ato B but there was no boats as there ws no water, NO WATER! So as far as i can see theyv'e got these canals but no Exit to take it out the other end, Most likly did have but sold it for divelopment.

Maybe they should get that Ital/Thai building company who built and is still building the BTS( to Pattaya I beleave) and stop them doing that and move all there Plant over to do something about the water problems.

thinkn they'v'e just goy to put some big pipes in place that go straight tp the sea or something

"The water has to be released en masse otherwise the dams would have been broken apart."

Has anyone answered this question yet, if so I missed it. Why does, "the water has to be released en masse otherwise the dams would have been broken apart."

This is my 5 cents to this question which I have posted:

So let's assume a dam or an embarkment is built to resist two weeks of high rain and completely filled up lakes or rivers... the dams and embarkments would hold that... but here we talk about 2 months of this situation... look what happened in New Orleans with the dams... you can not build security margins for worst worst worst worst case scenarios... nobody will pay for that...

Once you are in that situation (embankments filled to capacity for too long and getting weak and weaker), there is no more controlled (slow) water release possible but the urgent need to get out as much water in as short time as possible

"look what happened in New Orleans with the dams"

Presume you mean the levees. In that case it was known that they would not be able to take the amount of water that breached them, but the politicians would not pay for them to be strengthened.

  4. id say get an AIS sim card from now on as thats the priministers brothers company all others will slowley be crushed like worms

For the past few days I have been having issues calling her on her mobile, sometime's I get through and other times I cannot get a connection.

Has anyone had the same issues or know's of any issues with the telecommunications system within Thailand at the moment, due to the floods.

Issues while calling is probably normal. During the exceptional times, people tend to call more to their loved ones. This could cause capacity problems with the telecommunication networks or under some base stations which is serving increased number of subscribers .

For better connectivity, you could ask them to get another SIM card from another provider and try if that works better.

  5. I'm a 45 year old UK passport holder who has a yellow book for where he lives ,I'm On a Non O visiting friends at the moment which is to run out on the 6 of October.

I've been helping for free at a local school for the last three months or so, The Director and some of the local Governors have said they would like me to stay and help some more. they've asked me what do they need to do to help, but I was unable to answer.

I've looked at the web page for the right forms to fill in but was a bit confused which one to down load as about three offered the same thing I felt.

when i return to the Uk next I realise that the Non O visiting friends is now a defunct beast ,So would like to change it for a non O charity one

What would they need to write and what else would I need to go along with the right form , And is this possible Is my question.

  6. It was two different questions realy! I have a multy entry o which i just exited and re enterd on,

It said oct 3 on the visa from hull ,but i got 30 sept from imigration at cambodia

The main thing I could'nt understand was how after 4 days lets say when i was In Lao lastyear some time ,i lost my 90days left on my multy tourist as he said i should have been back before the date on my passport, I mean it said I had to leave the country my such and such date, so I did then I lost the other part of it when I reenterd

So Before i book a flight somewhere this time(well inadvance for cost reasons) I want to make shure I havent just got 24 hours before i have to reenter the same as before.

I just think I understang it and then ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The other question I shall put on hold untill this one is understood

Having a house will not get a new visa either. Do you have a single entry or multi entry visa now? A single entry ends when you leave unless you buy a re-entry permit to keep your current permitted to stay date for a return to that date. A multi entry just means you have to enter before the expiration of the visa itself for a new 90 day stay (and can do as many times as you want).

  7. I can remeber a few years ago having a multy entry tourist visa, and on leaving and entering Lao I decided to check out the long river up country, I had a great time but about 3 or 4 days later at the border the thai border controll said"No! Sorry you you've bee out to long" and gave me 12 day entry stamp, So I had to reenter and start again.

Now I have a rare animal it seems a " non O visiting friends" I have to be out of the country by sep 30 , But I was wondering will the same apply about rentering before an aloted time?

I have the Yellow book for the house i bought that gives me an address here but as i've read a few posts recently I get the impreshion that we're not allowed to have friends here anymore, Is that right?

  8. I have a feeling that this might be the wrong place to ask about this , However I hope some one else has come up against the same question.

Basicly i have a friend who speakes prety good english which out in supanburi is very good if you get my drift, so the local school i thought could realy do with someone to lend a hand to etc etc, So would it be possible for her to take some sort of online course which at the end she could go and take the exam on , I just though if the school was ever going to consider paying her for helping out then it would be better if she had a certifecate of some sort. I'm not talking about her becoming a Thai teacher over night just something.

  9. I have just made a oil drum oven," from an old Oil drum funnily enough" and seem to have got the base sorted Thanks to the internet, cheese from makros, However as i wnder round Tescos and every where else I see lots of Salamie type saucies hung all around , There all most waving at me, Knowing that I need Chortizo to complete my master plan,

Does anybody know if any of them can do the trick? I should imagin in Bangkok you could pick up a Choritzo but I have a feeling it would be pricy.

  10. Hi just geting into making some pizzas in my new oildrum oven i have just made, In the shops around I cant help noticing lots and lots of different salamies and the likes (all thai) do you know the name of any that tast like Choritso for my Pizzas.x

Foodland on central Pattaya road sell pizza bases for 32 baht and they are very good. It saves the hassle of trying to make them. You can find recipes for the sauce base on a site called videojug.com which has some great recipies for all types of food

  11. I am a 44 year old english citizen with a full english passport and have lived it Thailand for over two years with my same sex partner in oure house in a rural part of Thailand, I am here on a non imigrant O ,staying with friends visa at the moment, i was told that if you had a Thai buissnes visa for 5 years you could obtain permanant recedency?

My Idea is simple merly to build a cattle shed and imploy a local person to look after them( all ubove board and pay his tax etc, therfore in five years i would be able to obtain this visa.

I am aware that paying tax on the sale of cattle would virtulaly take all the profit from the cows but i would gain in terms of visas.

I figure there must be minimum requirements for such a buisness visa most likly in the number of people you need to employ and the gross amount you earn and i should imagin there would be a hefty start up fee. There that is my entire knowlege on the subject. help please.

  12. normaly Find the reflective 2 metes Becon Hats that the Hiv ? aids cariers wear in Pukket wether they be hetro/gay or even the formentiond ladyboy quite hard to notice , We are all here together what is youre secret?

just stay away of those persons than... either you are straight or gay... why confuse people ?

  13. I don't think it matters what system in what language you use realy , it all depends on were you are to what size dish you need, theres no way out of that one ,just make shure you get the chap with the signal test box around to youre house before you sign anything

Great to see this as I am looking into a stat tv system for english tv. Was told by the store here in chaing rai that I had to buy this huge disk thing. I would prefer the small dish, but again, told "no english!!!" Can help me???

  14. If you want to learn a few words for here and there then its not the one for you, it,s like an all or nothing course right from the different tones alphabet the whole nine yards, massive course, wether or not you can perservere and do the whole thing depends on you, but you will certainly never need to purchase anything else about the thai language

  15. Well I got this Thai Dtv box and allong with the little dish it was about 3000 baht, Lots of music great however on number 23 I found a foreign movie chanel some in other languages but about 70% in english, and I have to say some were realy good films I think it was called " Major### some thing, Anyway to my dissapoinment the other day it had gone and been replaced by ironicly enough the 'Nice chanel".

So my question is has it just been moved ? if so where or has it been nicly replaced.

  16. My supply is coming to an end and i am a long way off returning to the UK as yet so as this wonderfull web site has helpt me so much in the past I thought I ought to give it a stir.

This is a tea bag that for me is like no other , I am at present far away from any capital but Bangkok is the closest, this means i could go to any area of the city on my quest for the holy bag, Please were would be the most likly place for the largest assortment of fallang goodies?

  17. thanks that's helped a lot, I've got about 1 rai which we planted cucumbers on under plastic sheets and drip fed It was ok but we neede workers every morning to pick them for about three months and and there was a lot of runing around and up at 5 every motning before it got to hot etc.

So this year i was allso thinking of growing sugar kane, A Thai chap down the road who's got about a Rai to went and got the seeds from a consortem who give you the right sort of Kane seeds and deduct the price off what they pay you for it when its ready to harvest, Apparently they cut it as well.

Im in suppanburi and thats all i know at the moment, In all areas ther will be a company who take peoples produce and pay them what they got the next day, here you would be able to get all the information you will need , good luck
