  1. I'm currently at an intermediate level with Thai and am looking to get out of Bangkok for a month or two. I'd love to go live in an Issan city and be able to study Thai there for a few hours a day. Can anyone recommend or just let me know of schools avaialble in Issan cities. I don't really have a preference, just want to get out of BKK. Also I need to make sure the school is going to have something for my level. I can read, write and carry on conversations in Thai. But I also have a lot of work to do on it.

    Thanks!

  2. I still haven't found an all inclusive shop, but here are my results of searching the past day or so.

B2S (i think that's the name) in Central Mall has a small display of maybe 12 books. They are only recent volumes.

2 Shops near the food market on South Pattaya road. Shop 1 has a bunch of romance / girly manga. Shop 2 has a decent selection, but difficult to find volume 1 of many books there also. Both of these shops are on the Tukcom side of South Pattaya road between Tukcom and Walking street. Explore any shops with books/magazines and you'll find them.

  3. Should I start preparing for the flood? Would it be going too far to buy weeks of supplies along with whatever else I might need were I to be trapped in my home? If Bangkok floods how long will it be flooded for?

  4. Beauty salon supply shops stock them, there are a couple around the Saphan Kwai BTS station, probably around Victory Monument as well but I don't know that area well.

Gippy, where exactly at Saphan Kwai? That is close to me.

Can anyone direct me to a place that sells razor blades near the BTS, preferably in the Asok or Victory Monument area? So far I've checked Big C, Watsons, Villa Market and haven't found any. Thanks!

  6. I'm not sure about your medication. I've had constipation problems on and off since as long as I can remember and I initially had a lot of problems once I arrived in Thailand. The best thing I've found that works consistently is exercise. I do 15 minutes of light aerobic exercise and within 1-2 hours I'm no longer constipated. Coffee, street sausage, laxatives and stress also seem to help out, but obviously aren't the healthiest options to use on a regular basis.

  7. Are you in Bangkok? I've attended 3 language schools and if you're willing to put in the time Unity Thai Language School is great. Professional teachers, motivated students a real program set up. It's 2-4 hours a day depending on which program you sign up for. Costs 6200-7200 per month including the book. Also there is a pinned thread here, but it's all a bit jumbled.

As many people will suggest go to some schools, check them out and sit in for a class. Interview the students afterwards. You can find what's going to work for you.

  8. I was able to bypass the need for both resistors and a jig by using the one click root. That enabled download mode and from there I flashed gingerbread and then darkysrom. I may have been taking a risk though of the phone bricking and me not being able to get it out. But all is well!

The Galaxy S variants are nearly impossible to brick, easier to 'clay' (from which it is simple to recover).

Which version did you flash? 10.1?

How is your battery performance? Call quality? Wifi working? How is GPS, lock time, accuracy? Do you use 3G? If so, how is the DL speed, same as before? Did you back-up and restore your apps and data without issues?

I guess that ROM may be based on an official Samsung release so in theory it should be proven and reliable.

    Yes 10.1

Battery performance seems to possibly be better, but I have no actual way to test this out. Call quality and wifi are the same. GPS is working fine, though I don't know about the exacts of that either. I don't use 3g. I did a completely fresh install and formatted before hand.

Basically, I've only noticed two issues which is when I unlock my screen maybe 1/20 times the home screen is messed up and I need to go to a different home screen and back to fix it. I'm not sure if that is the ROMs fault or the widgets / theme I'm using. The second issue is semi large and I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do about it. Swype doesn't have Thai in darky's rom... other thai keyboards work fine though. Everything else is very fast and actually a lot better than before. I had major lag issues with my phone and Friday night almost lost the opportunity to get a girl's phone number as my phone was freezing up. Those issues are totally gone. Though you just need to root to fix that issue. Everything is clean, fast and I'm very impressed. This is my first ever rooting so I really enjoyed making my phone look very cool.

  10. There is a Radio Shack (?) outlet in Amaron Plaza (Chit Lom BTS).

Come in off the skywalk, and turn left by the pharamasy (first left), head towards the end of that section. On your left will be a Radio Shack (sort of) store. They carry many Radio Shack parts, including electronic components.

They do seem to keep odd hours though.

I will go check it out today, thanks!

Can you share any details re: your specific model and android rev.?

I'm not sure what the important things to include here are but I have:

    GT-i9000 running Froyo.DXJPE

I plan to install Darky's Rom. The main thing that has motivated me to do this is the phone has a lag/hanging issue that requires it to be rooted to be fixed. Also a sweet alternative theme and the promise of other cool features is appealing.

I've tried time and again to enter download mode and it hasn't worked. So I've figured I need a jig of some sort.

    Thanks for your advice.

  11. I'm looking for doner kebabs in Bangkok like the ones that are all over Pattaya. I used to eat these things every other day when I was in Pattaya. My favorite place was the place at the corner of 2nd road and PhayaThai Road. I know these aren't exactly authentic, but I'm craving them. I went to Soi Arab (soi3) the other day during lunch time and there were none out, I thought there would be street stand everywhere. I was able to purchase a Kebab from one of the restaurants and it was good, it was more authentic, but I'm looking for one like the ones in Pattaya. Help me out. Time of day / day of week would be great too.

  12. I have a water damaged, partially functional Samsung Galaxy S. I took it to one repair shop at MBK and that repair shop seemed to outsource it to another shop, but they still couldn't repair it. It seems like they mostly focused on repairing iphones. Anyway, I sort of lost hope of getting it repaired until I looked online and found plenty of places in the U.S. that would repair it. So there must be some shop that can fix it in Bangkok... right? If anyone has any advice on how to find a shop that knows what they're doing with this phone, it'd be greatly appreciated. I'm depressed and embarrassed walking around with my backup phone!

  13. Just moved to Ari station, specifically Pholonyotin 7 near Soi Ari 2. Where can I get my laundry done around this area? I don't have a washing machine yet. I walked around and looked, but couldn't find any places close by.

    Thanks!
