  1. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, fully equiped condo 72K baht a month. I also end up spending another 25K a month on phone calls, laundry, room service ..........................

Makes no sense at all to rent at that price for any length of time you may as well buy a place or are you just making a point to the others that you can afford it? :o

Seems like it is the same price as other posters on this thread so I'm merely confirming the "going rate".

I agree though, I've been renting this place for two years now - about 25K GBP so far....

However I don't have a Thai wife and am not too keen on the other ways to buy property here. Also property seems a bit overpriced at the moment.

  2. Actually they have changed the set up with the stairs going by the kitchen in vertigo now so the smell problem is resolved.

Vertigo is smaller than Scirrocco but in my opinion much better. As other posters have pointed out the servive is excellent. However I find the menu quite limited and the wine list adequate at best.

Scirocco has good food but somehow I don't like it much.

  3. Finance/banking/business background or knowledge preferred.

full time, work permit, long term prospects.

This is a serious suit and tie job so no backpackers or tattooed wideboys.

Salary is alot better than teaching but don't get excited by the idea of a full expat package.

    PM me for serious enquiries!

  4. You don't need to do any market research - George has the data he needs, and now it has to be transformed into information. In July, TV hosted a party. How many people were there? That is the absolute maximum you'll ever see at the TV Clubhouse. Now, it's time to start removing, not adding, clients. The turnout was large because there was free food. If you take away free food, there goes half the people. Since the TVC will be operating 365 days a year, you'll lose another 50% of the patrons because it's no longer a special occasion. Too, since it's no longer a special occasion, people will drink less. So, the question is: can the TVC survive selling 100 beers a day?

But what about the TV party which was held in October? That was a disaster.....

  5. They say they want to replac ethe bonnet - this is my point - is it really necessary for a little nick? I guess they can repaint it? It is metallic by the way and they want 2,800 baht total. Seems to me too cheap for a new bonnet and too much for a paint job.

I have to agree that 2800 for a bonnet is cheap. The paint job though is close. Had a motorbike ram into the back end of my car and he put a big dent in the bumper. The bumber is all one piece flexible plastic and didn't fracture but lots of paint chips. Took it in to a shop and they removed the bumper, heated it to pop it back out and re-painted it (metallic paint at that). 2000 baht and it looks like it came off the factory floor.

Wonder if you are misunderstanding them and he is adding time loss without the car (common with claims) while being painted?

It is only a tiny scratch - nothing like the dent it sounds liek you had.

I am not sure what to do as I don't really want some huge confrontation nor can I be arsed with going round to different garages with him. I would just hand over the money except that I hate to think I am being screwed. I like the idea of asking for the bonnet but in reality - I would have to carry it home etc

  6. Mt errant 3 year old son threw a toy metal car out of the window of his friends 12th floor apartment which landed on the bonnet of a car below.

May we presume your child is farang? A Thai would have fled the scene...

It the toy car is farang as well just get the police involved and they'll rule it a suicide...

    yes, he's farang.

It chipped off some of the paint work (about 7 mm by 2 mm) but as far as I can see did not dent the bonnet at all.

Obviously I am happy to pay to have the damage repaired but the driver of the car (not the owner I hasten to add) claims that the car needs a whole new bonnet. I disputed this and we went to a nearby garage together and the garage owner quickly agreed. I may be overly suspicious but I have a feeling that these two are in cohoots together. They want 2,800 baht for a new bonnet.

Firstly is it possible to paint over the scratch? I would have thought so but have no real experience in this. At the end of the day I will pay but I just don't want to be taken for a ride....

  8. OP: You have reason to be concerned about the stamp in the last page of your passport, because this makes it impossible to have the passport extended.

For extra pages to be added the last page must be clean.

Also, many countries have discontinued the practise of adding pages

easy to check this if you look on the website of your country

yes, uk won't put extra pages in anymore

  9. Thank you, tjo o tjim and Florin, for your suggestions.

As I got the phone from ebay, I don't know its talk plan history/registration so I can't ask for help from Cingular. It was supposed to be new, never opened, unlocked (as advertised), but turned out the other way round.

I'd rather have it unlocked here than send the phone to Canada, as apart from the unlock fee of US$100 there is a hefty return S&H fee (from Canada to US is US$20 so I imagine at least double that much to Thailand) --- I might as well buy a new phone with that sum. Lol!

There are also some people in the US who will send you the unlock code and instructions if you pay them somewhere between $50-100. I think it is too risky and expensive. I also heard of a guy in UK who charged quite a lot for the unlock cable but didn't deliver as promised.

A guy I talked to at an MBK shop said he would order the unlock device which should be available from mid February. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Still if someone has more info on this, I'd be glad to know. Besides, I'm going to Singapore next week so if anyone has their phones unlocked in shops there before, please let me know where and how much.

    Thank you very much.

Have you contacted the ebay seller? He might be able to point you in the right direction at least.

  10. yes, I also have some distant acquaintances in town who want some advice on where to go. They are a Canadian couple with their (hot) teenage daughter.

I was considering asking the Butterfly to take them to Cascade in NEP but thought better of it.

Where can I send this well to do family where they wont got robbed, cheated or offended by lewdity?

I was thinking of Suan Lum night bazaar. They must have some fairly tame entertainment for them - a puppet show or something. Or is there anything going on by the river with fireworks and stuff?

Any advice would be much appreciated as I am only able to recommend seedy dives.

  11. Thanks chaps.

My plan then is take her out the country with us on the next visa run and then when we re-enter she would be on a 30 day tourist.

We would then do another run after three months at which point the baby's visa would be overdue. If what has been posted above is correct there should be no problem leaving thailand. I will post if the situation turns out to be otherwise.

No, if you can leave the bubs in Thailand then you should do so, as there is no reason you need to take the baby on a long and tiring trip. The baby doesn't need to accompany you on the visa run. It can be born here and stay up until 7 years of age with no problem. Hypothically, if your child only ever leaves Thailand at 7 years of age for the first time, they will be stamped out with a minimum of fuss.

I hear what you are saying. Indeed if we decide just to do a day trip to the border that will be the case but we often go away to HK or Singapore for a few days.
