  1. Would be nice to know what routes they will be employed on, had a look at their web site and they only mention the initial phase of bedding in between Doha and Dubai unless I missed the eventual routes.

    LHR-DOHA

I would be very happy with this, do you have a source for the info?

The 787 will spend a few days positioned at Doha International Airport giving staff an opportunity to tour the aircraft before it enters commercial service for a few weeks on selected Doha - Dubai flights from November 20 and then deployed long-haul on one of the five daily London Heathrow services.

However QR's IBE doesn't show the 787 in their schedule yet, I looked up to March so perhaps it will appear in a few days.

  2. Anyone who doesn't travel with a birth certificate and other original ID sufficient to satisfy their country's requirements for getting a new passport is IMO as stupid as those handing their passport over to strangers. I've been doing this since I was twelve and never imagined not everyone does.

And of course don't keep them in the same places as your passport.

I never have traveled on holiday with original ID doco other than passport & drivers license nor do any of my friends.

    . . .

Other country embassies may of course have a faster turnaround time.

All an American needs is an original birth certificate and one government-issued photo ID, and in an emergency (like showing an ongoing ticket out) an embassy can turn it around in hours - 24 hours is not unusual.

This was as true back in the days before high-speed international computer networks as post 9/11.

But I must admit I haven't had to actually test the system for over six years, with budget cuts it may be slower these days.

I certainly do not have my Birth Certificate with me, it is the long UK one, never needed to get a new passport. I doubt if many people actually have their Birth Certificates here.

I don't have mine either, although for my emergency passport in Manila they did ask me if I had a copy or the original, after I said no it is in my flat they simply said okay. The one odd question I recall was they asked me the last time I entered the UK, carrier, flight number, I had no idea as I travel often and couldn't give an exact date.

In terms of carrying back up supporting documents the only thing I've learnt over the years is to carry an extra set of pictures, it was dam_n near impossible to find the proper size.

  3. Love all these replies from non Brits about how to get a new British passport and they actually have NO idea. TV can be so helpful until the fools start giving advice about stuff they have zero experience of.

Spot on, I've never had any issues at all & I've required service in Manila, Ottawa & Bangkok all top level. Sure people bitch about the cost but I don't care it's an honour to carry a passport. I for one can't wait for the shared Embassy concept to take off.

  4. We are talking about Colemans English Mustard, not some kind of US enhanced gravy, which is the reason none of the English guys would put flour anywhere near it.

Why did I ever mention flour smile.png I was chatting with a cousin telling him to try whisky, I mentioned my OP the flour recipe - absolute silence I didn't dare say I often have lager with ice I'd be disowned.

  5. Yes Bangkok & I am so sorry I should have said that was on top of mandated sick entitlement. We allow staff the 8 days for whatever reason, mental health day, personal leave call them floaters I guess, for HR purposes they are considered sick days-sorry for the confusion.

Wow, so in effect nearly a month's paid holiday on top of five weeks' potential sick leave, very generous from a US POV.

But I assume for that salary range you're requiring a degree and most likely higher level of English that I outlined, at least on the reading/writing side? Probably more experience in a professional environment, higher level computer skills (MS Office proficiency etc)?

Our HR is in Germany so we tend to follow EU rules. HR would like a degree for all candidates HOWEVER I don't follow that since my pool of candidates are from staff already hired smile.png Computer skills are more or less OJT a basic proficiency is required however most of the work is done in cryptic commands circa 1980.

  6. In my group we pay 22K to start & one month bonus based on review, after a favourable review at the end of year one most are bumped to 25-28K 3 weeks paid holidays, 8 sick days. We offer additional perks I would say work out to 40K p.a. I also have a Thai do the initial interview 15-20 minutes in Thai and then I pop in once they are relaxed, starting out in English I found most candidates were so nervous simple mistakes were made, once was comfortable it seems to flow naturally.

In terms of recruiting it is really difficult, to the point we now offer a 5K-10K incentive to staff when a candidate is hired-works like a charm.

Thanks for the excellent and detailed post. Bangkok?

And aren't sick days mandated by the labour laws?

  8. Can we try to stay on-topic here?`This is very frustrating .

I know what you mean. Did you ever try to drink a Coke immediately after brushing your teeth? It tastes really nasty.

I haven't tried that, I'll tell my boss he has terrible breath. If coke cleans a toilet surely it will help ?

What colour taxi should I hail today ?

  9. So if you give a donation at a sperm bank do they say "thanks for coming" when you leave? Please discuss

Reminds me of that funny Thai commercial where a sperm bank was robbed. (Google thai sperm bank robbery)

How do I know when I order a pizza with double cheese I am really getting double cheese has anyone ever done any research on this ? or is it a scam?

  10. I changed my avatar for Remembrance Sunday and now I want to put my old one back, it keeps saying file not accepted yet it is exactly the same picture I used previously. I've waited 10 minutes and longer but nothing happens.

    Any hints ?

  11. Oh, and another thing - they are called "little people". Not midgets.

Some of you are so insensitive.

I heard if you call them wee little people they don't like that either ?

I'm upset I came home only to find my gold fish died, a mate told me 77% of all gold fish die from over feeding can someone confirm 77%

Well, it so happens I over fed 77 of my 100 gold fish and each of those died. That's why I bought new tires.

Sent from my iPad using ThaiVisa ap

I'll have to buy a large tank tomorrow and 100 fish to test your results. Will report back.

When I was a child I was terrified of sleeping in the dark so my parents put a nightlight in my room, I've never had dreams my entire life and blame my parents - I believe I was sleep deprived as a child sue my parents ?

  12. Thank you all, I played around last night & was laughing at myself that I over complicated the recipe. The flour was so foolish on my part.

I did a whisky batch, a mayo batch, one with milk & one with balsamic - loved them all, then I did one with a few drops of Port. I can't decide which is my favourite yet, I made it so complicated when it really is so simple with all your suggestions-thanks again.
