  1. This ( Tue 20.1 ) , visa afternoon. Tourist visa, permission of stay till 25.1.

Front staff checked the papers and said come back 25th. I was surprised and told it has been possible to do extension 30 days in advance. They checked again and said come back 23rd ( 25th is Sunday ). No advance extension for tourista visa. Had short talk with three of the staff. No way to get queue number.

Is this temporary rule for high season ( to move the crowds further when there is less customers)? Anyway it was not too crowded this afternoon.

Is there different staff in the morning shift? I could try tomorrow morning again.

I planned to travel on Friday.

  2. Baht bus drivers are powerfull group they dont need tips or pity. Good for them, no problem with that. Majority of the passengers in baht bus system are local thai. Some of them get 600baht monthly pension, and do also work and need to travel around. For them doubling the fare from 10 to 20 would be big problem. If many people keep overpaying soon the price will be 20 for all.

Already now there is too many baht buses on beach area and too few on other areas. One reason is that there is easy money on beach areas and the baht buses just go where there is easy money.

Some times I ask what is the price from Jomtien to Central festival area. Always answer has been 10baht. I ask from thais. If I have large luggage or golf bag then I have to pay 20 because the bag takes a seat from other customers. That is reasonable.

  3. I have some "old money" in thai bank account ( couple of millions ). It can be difficult to prove the origin of that money. Can I still use bank statement for extension of stay based on marriage or retirement?

I still have more than half year to decide which one to choose. But if I need to take my money out and wire transfer it back in again then I have to plan beforehand.

The money have accumulated during several years when I have visited here. Some I have taken as cash from abroad, some withdrawals from overseas accounts via local ATM etc. I can show withdrawals from my overseas accounts but I am afraid that is not good enough proof.

  4. It runs normally with gasoline ( E20 ). But only short time with CNG. Motor suddenly stops and does not start again. Yellow motor warning sign is lit.

Car can be started again after taking CNG controller fuses out. It will run normally as gasoline only mode. It is also possible to use CNG again ( for short time ) by placing the two CNG related fuses back again. Car stops again after a while and then have to take out those fuses again.

Car is about three years old, about 35000km. Car has been serviced in Toyota service center. No CNG parts or filters have been changed yet. Toyota insists they can not see anything on their computer when connected to car computer. Toyota service wants to replace CNG controller, they did not say why but insist to replace it. It looks like they just try to change parts one by one and see if it helps.

Is there good quality CNG specialist service place in Pattaya Jomtien area?

Where could I buy adapter for car computer ( usually they are USB devices ).

Anyway I learned that if you start to have trouble with Toyota Corollas CNG system you can "modify" it back to gasoline only by taking out two fuses ( CNG ECU1, CNG ECU 2 ). Both are 20A fuses.

  5. We need to translate document from thai to english. Translated document will be legalized by thai foreign ministry ( MFA ). So translation should be good enough quality so that MFA will accept it and legalize it ( put their stamp ).

Or should we just go to MFA in Chaengwattana and translate it in some of their translating offices.

The document is so called "single paper". Most probably we want to legalize the original thai language document also if that is not done automatically.

Later most probably we'll need to translate some more documents so it would be nice to find good translator here in Pattaya.

  6. We have car with "finance" ( = loan ). Loan and insurance are both from same company ( Thana.... something ). More than 60% is paid already.

Now we want to change insurance to other company. We will purchase the full coverage ( 1st class insurance ).

In the contracts we could not see clear statement if the insurance is locked to the finance company or not.

GF is calling to insurance companies and finance company to check.

The new insurance company offer slightly better coverage with lower yearly payments.

Have you changed insurance company for cars on finance? Was is it business as usual?

  7. It seems that some of the people who where denied entry in Malaysian border continued to travel in region and were not forced to return to their home country. Some even flew into Thailand.

I still dont know which kind of stamp one gets when entry is denied. Is that something that would look suspicious when applying visas to other countries. If so then I would need to apply new passport to have clean passport for applying visa for example to China.

  8. When denied entry happens in land border it is quite easy process. You just return to the country where you came from. But if that happens in airport, you are forced to buy flight ticket out ( or the airline which you flew in with, will arrange that ). And if there is longer waiting time before your flight leaves you will be locked in airport in some kind of airport IDC. And if that is full you may be taken to the real IDC.

Do they put big nasty "denied entry" stamp in your passport?
If they do and you are flown back to Singapore for example Singapore immigration will see your entry to Thailand
was denied and they think you are suspicious and they also may deny entry?
Then you most probably need to buy expensive ticket directly to your home country.

Is there a clear procedure for denied entry in airport?

After mid August I think it is better to enter via land border if you have history of frequent tourist trips to Thailand. Then you are in control of the situation.

I have many exempt stamps in my old 10 year passport accumulated during several years. I will fly out in August and will come back in September. In new passport there is double entry tourist visa and couple of entry exit stamps. New passport is so new and empty that immigration may be curious to dig out information about my old passport.

  9. I heard about some guy at Nong Khai border with 7 months overstay was refused to leave and given 7 days to leave Thailand.

I'd leave via the airport rather than a land border.

There is a need for more info about this.

Did the person have the documents and the intent to apply for a visa while in Laos. I suspect not and they had the intention of doing an exempt entry.

The said person was with a visa run company going to obtain a single or double tourist visa from the embassy in Laos.

When at the border, he was berated by the IO for being 7 months overstayed and told he had 7 days to leave Thailand. He didn't continue into Laos with the visa run company.

Immigration officer maybe thought that even with visa this guy would not be let in. And he got 7 days straight away and saved visafees.

  10. I just went to Singapore to apply tourist visa 60 days, and they denied. They won't accept if you have been in Thailand more than 90 days in 6 months, they said. So i couldn't even apply.

As return to Bangkok, they said I need a tourist visa and they turned me home. I had return ticket to home in 3 weeks, but it wasn't their concern at all....

    Thailand has changed a lot.

After denied entry did they let you freely go and buy flight ticket to freely selected destination outside of Thailand? Would it be possible to buy ticket online in that situation?

Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

There will be someone collecting you and the person will be from the airline you flew in with, no many options as they said they need to get authorization and have paperwork to be done. They will also try to get you direct flight (at least in my case) and ask you to pay by either cash or C.C.

So... you cannot book flight online and won't have too many choices.

Anyway they said you need a tourist visa. So you may be allowed entry with tourist visa. In any case it would be more nice to get at least 7 days which they sometimes give on the land border.

    Thanks for the info.

  12. What are you planning to do? I have a chainsaw and a grinder. Depending on what you're doing I can most likely let you borrow them...

    Thanks.

We decided to wait for gfs relatives to visit with backhoe. Need to remove some tree stumps. I noticed why earlier workers left them so high. Wood is so hard that cutting it ground level would be tough.

  13. I doubt you will find a chain saw for hire.the owners of these need a licence to own one,a small grinder you can buy for apx 900 baht, there is a website on google search advertising small tool rental...

I did not know license is needed for chainsaw. Is it for stopping illegal logging?

I have seen grinders on second hand markets. I could buy one but still I need chainsaw.
