  3. Ok, this is kind of ridiculous. For me to set the new draft time it has to go to a league vote, so everyone will have to log in and approve my new draft time, which is set for this Saturday at 12:45pm. To vote on the new draft time just go to the league page and it should show up on your screens there... If it doesnt, click "referenda" directly under where the "league, my team, players......" tabs are.

Or I can create a new league right now and everyone can sign up again, then I will open it to the public like 12 hours before the draft so it fills.

    Let me know whats best.

    OK I voted for same.

  4. I have Ischemic heart disease and I thought I had a minor stroke a couple of weeks ago

I am rather excited to find out Naresuan University is at the center of this since I live close by.

I am going to drive over to the University this week and see what I can find out. Maybe get

    tested myself if I can.thumbsup.gif

  5. The rains have arrived and I am still looking for a gas powered walk behind mower. I went to homepro and thaiwatsadu they both had mowers but watsadu could not find all the parts or rear bag for their mower and home pro's was missing a spark plug and they said it was an old mower and they wouldn't sell it to me, they actually told me to go online or somewhere else to find a mower. Both stores seemed inept at best and not interested in selling a mower.

HELP!!! Can somebody please someone throw me a Bone.

I need a mower asap. I live in Phitsanulok but I will pay shipping if someone somewhere has a decent mower for sale or give me an address company name, website or phone # etc. and I will follow up.

I tried to call Husky but their number is invalid and Asgatec gave me thaiwatsadu's phone number, *^!%*$#.

    Thxs... I hope.

  6. Are you a member of "Chicken Chokers Anonymous" ?

You have the work permit etc?

You like being beaten on by Thai's?

Better off just calling it "I'm a Jerk."

    Why a Jerk???

More than likely his thai gf/wife would do it so no work permit or beatings

and jerk chicken or pork is delicious.

I've spent a lot of time in Jamaica and Thailand and I believe the Jamaican gai/moo is better.

It's preparation and range of flavor fits right in with Thai street cuisine.

I'll take a half chicken anytime I see your cart.

  7. You think that is bad!!!

I helped a thai friend order 100 purses from china 2 seperate times because the Chinese co. spoke only english or chinese but did not speak thai. The second order weighed 2 more kgs. because some of the purses were larger and weighed more.

She paid the exact same price for 2 seperate shipments, 2514.62 baht.

One shipment of 5 kg sent on Fed Ex with freight cost of 650 baht on and 25.15 baht ins. totaling

3189.77 cost for product, freight and insurance.

Customs duty of 10% for 318.98 baht and VAT of 245.61 baht with no disbursement fee or VAT totaling 564.59 baht in duty and taxes + the 3189.77 baht for a grand total

    of 3424.27 baht.

The next shipment of 7 kg sent on UPS with freight cost of 910 baht on and 25.15 baht ins. totaling

3449.77 cost for product, freight and insurance.

Customs duty of 40% for 1379.91 baht and VAT of 338.08 baht a disbursement fee of 200 baht

with a VAT of 14 baht totaling 1931.99 baht in duty and taxes + the 3449.77 baht for a grand total

    of 5381.76 baht.

    Almost a 2000 baht difference?????????

Can anyone explain this duty disparity or how she can best address this action by thai customs which effectively raises her cost and prices her out of competitive business? She is an honest hard working thai trying to start a business and make a living.

  8. My Top Ten Reasons.... too stay away from Thailand

1- My wife has 5 sisters.

2- You look hungry,I make you more food. No,I'm OK

3- You need more Leo.No,I'm OK

4- Here's more food, you what more Leo? No thank you' I'm OK

    5- I get new Leo,you what more ice? I'm fine,Thank you!

6- Are you hot? I get fan for you OK. Up to you,but I'm OK.

7- Are you OK now? Not so hot anymore. You what more food?..aaahhhh

8- You want more ice in Leo,I think you hungry....aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh

9- Are you OK? You look hot. Leo OK.

10-I think I make more food for you..OK

Do you think it's easy living with 6 Thai girls????

Ohhh for you haters, only one sister asked me for money.20,000bt that she paided back within 1 year.

One day, late at night, perhaps after a few leo's your wife may offer up a playful suggestion regarding one of her sisters.

For the love of all that is holy and what is left of your sanity just say NO!

Can you elaborate on this? Is it a common occurence? My gf has a hot sister and has made suggestions of this sort

before without being drunk. I have never taken her up on it yet. What are these horrible ramifications... I might have

to much to drink one day?

Thanks for the info guys. I'll check em out.

  10. Where in bkk can I find and rent a portable tank of helium for filling party ballons?

I need good clean helium not the hydrogen I've seen some people using.

  11. I have been asked by a friend to act as liason with and place orders with a Thai manufacturer for his US company. Then to verify product, packaging, quality, quantity etc. and to oversee procuring and shipping the product to the US.

I live in Thailand on an O-A visa and extension of stays. I have not been hired or paid or done anything as yet. If things go as planned orders would be for over a million dollars per year.

Before I consent to do anything I need to know the legalities involved and my position as a long stay retired expat. Would I have to change my status or obtain a WP etc..

I would of course become a paid officer of the company at some point. I came here to retire so I am not keen on working but my friend needs help and it could become profitable for me in the event things went as he plans.

  12. I need help finding a real Thanksgivng dinner. I live between Khon Kean and Phitsanulok so It is a long dirve either way.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Happy Thanksgiving. (I hope)

  13. Bangkok Bank is a great company and a great bank. They offer services that no other Thai banks do. The main benefit for me is that they have a NYC branch and a US bank routing number so that I can make regular transfers by computer to that NY branch and they plop that cash into my bkk bank acct here in thailand using the onshore exchange rate. No other Thai banks offer this simplicity. Also they send an SMS when the transfer is done with all details: how much in USD, the echange rate (a decent one) and how much in baht. I am very pleased with Bangkok bank. The fees for that service is $5 to the NY bank and 200 baht minimum fee or 500 max to bkk bank in thailand. It adds up because my US bank limits transfers to $2000 per time but that's not bkk bank's fault. The US bank charges $3 for the transfer so it ends up being $15 which stings a little bit but it's super convenient. Also if you wanted to do direct deposit of monthly checks, you could do it direct to that NY branch and same fees would apply but again bkk bank is the only bank that has this service. I think it kicks butt myself. It sure beats going to the ATM and withdrawing a $500 limit daily and depositing to bkk bank. I think they rock

Yea I initially chose Bangkok Bank for the same reason and I agree they do a great job. You ought to check out some other US banks. At Wells Fargo I can transfer 10k or 15k at a time depending on it being a one day or 5 day transfer.

  14. not strange at all having a wee fee for a cash deposit

the absolutely most expensive service a bank can offer is the handling of cash,

that being deposit or withdrawal or foreign currency exchange or denomination exchange

the handling of cash is COSTLY for any bank

why shouldn't they charge for it

Melvin Melvin... you sound like a thai business owner stuck in the past, it is convoluted thinking like yours that prolongs Thai banks and business' thinking that they are doing you a favor by letting you buy their products or deposit your money in their bank. They convinced the gullible masses of this and it was common practice here when they had a captive market but that is slowly changing. They begin to learn when we take our money or business elsewhere. It is a slow process but in this Global economy they will find out that 'the times they are a changing'.

I transfered my money from one province BB to another province and the BB manager couldn't cancel all fees fast enough when I got up and started to walk out.

He said "no charge for ATM card or for deposit money, no charge anything". Now I was depositing a large sum I grant you but the more people vote

with their feet the sooner Thai business will wise up and realize that we are doing them a favor by shopping with them not visa versa. Their elitist attitude always leaves me wondering why the thai people haven't seen thru this <snip> years ago.

How many depositors do you think a bank would get right now if it offered free services to the general public? Such a bank would force the other banks to become competitive.

Such a bank would need to raise revenue in another way. An increase in the NIM (Net Interest Margin), i.e. the spread between deposits and lending, for example. This would imply lowering deposit rates and/or increasing lending rates.

As Dave said it is strange that the fees charged by all other service providers are acceptable but some seem to feel that banks should not charge fees. We are a commercial enterprise, we are not state owned like so many UK and US banks.

We provide a service and we charge for it in a competitive and regulated market. As AURELIUS said, the regulators are looking at fees and banks need to comply with any changes they impose. We do listen to customers and especially in these challenging times of flooding we are making accomodations to try to help the Thai public. Please see the attached link, we, along with all members of the TBA (Thai Bankers Association) are waiving inter-regional ATM Withdrawal fees during this period to help those impacted by the flood who have had to travel to other provinces.

I do think that the term "scam" should be looked at by the moderators as that is a complete insult to the Bank an implies immoral and illegal activities. That is just silly. Posters should be more responsible.

    Ian

Sorry about the scam comment perhaps I should just say people need to remove their blinders.

BTW Banks in the US are privately held not government owned and if you read the US news you know that Bank of America tried to implement a $5 monthly

ATM service fee and thought better of it after the public outcry and because of thousands of people switching their accounts to other institutions.

These fees disproportionately hurt the small depositor much more than the well off, how do you justify that? I am all for private enterprises making money but

I am also a big believer in competition like the mechanic or the dentist or Big C has to compete with in the market place.

You imply that the bank is not making money unless they charge depositors fees for so kindly letting them deposit their money with the bank.

If they can not make a profit by lending and investing the depositors money and the fees they charge business' when we use their plastic to make purchases then maybe they are doing something wrong.

I would like to see a breakdown of the profits. How much the profits are and by percentage how they were generated.

This cannard about other business' charging a fee is completely different and is not applicable to banks. The dentist or mechanics or the plumber do not continue daily to make money off of you because you used their product or services. Banks on the other hand (if they are well run) make handsome profits

on our money whether we ever use their ATM or transfer etc. banking services. How long would Big C stay in business if they initially charged you 300 baht to shop with them (open an acct.) and then 30 baht every subsequent time you wanted to buy their products (use their services) like the banks do???

I happen to believe the banks are doing fine and that the cost of ATM's and transfers etc.(which are electronic not labor intensive) are the cost of doing business. I think profits from bank fees pale in comparison to the profits generated by the use of the depositors money and the fees they charge business when depositors use their bank cards to make purchases plus the many other ways banks generate income.

I have been wrong before but it'll take some powerful convincing to change my thinking, however I have an open mind so let's see what ya got. :wai:

  16. As a US citizen residing in Bangkok most of the time, I'd like to see a plain language explanation of what advantages I would get if I opened an account at the New York branch of Bangkok Bank. I currently have a local Bangkok Bank account here in Thailand.

Would I be able to have my Social Security directly deposited into the New York branch and draw on it here? Currently, I have the SSI deposited directly into a US bank and I withdraw it by ATM but that is becoming an increasingly expensive option. Would I be able to set up regular transfers to the local Bangkok Bank account from the NY branch for less cost than I am paying ATM's.

I did read the Bangkok Bank website about the New York branch but is was quite unclear on many questions.

    Thanks

I transfer my pension from Wells Fargo to BB NY and it is automatically transfered to my BB acct. in Thailand at the TT rate, It works great for me.

  17. Madame Bangbang sees and knows all.

Cross her palm with silver magic beans, dearie, and she will reveal the future.

The mist is clearing, clearing .......

Over the next month the USD/THB rate will go up .... or down .... or stay exactly the same. Check back in 30 days to see which it was.

    The mist returns ..............................

    :jap:

Great Advice! Now I know that I will definitely, probably, absolutely, maybe, hopefully, potentially, for sure possibly transfer some money.

    :jap:

It is nice to see the rate above 30. Keep it up!

I transfered 10k 10 days ago and got 30.90 it is trending down. I figure anything over 30 is good. It will likely be lower tomorrow.

  18. Years ago, back in the late sixties and seventies they were similar to the Nana & Grace but the past several years they have cleaned up their act. But I haven't been their recently so maybe they have slipped back to their ol;d ways!

Back then wasn't it the American Military officer quarters. I seem to remember that it was.

I don't think so. I believe the officers club/quarters was in the Chao Phiya (sic) Hotel.

Does anyone know the hotels or area the enlisted men stayed in? I had a great time here on R&R in 68 but have no idea where. It would be interesting to see if the places still exist.
