I live in ubud, bali and may is the very end of the rainy season. I've never been to the Philippines, but have not heard too many good things, unless you're just looking for sex and nothing more, but once again, I've not been there.

I got pulled over on my scooter and showed them my phony international (bike included) license from Koh San road in BKK and they let me skip. All the bike rental places should check for a bike license before renting bikes, but I guess that would put them all out of business overnight. While I've risen bikes for 40+ years, I don't have a license and its scary to be in the road with so many unskilled riders.

There's a military supply store on the ground level of 'Tesco'.

There is a tobacco/liquor store past the end of Nimminheiman (spelling)
Go to the very end where it comes to a T. Turn right and go maybe 200 meters and you will see a 7-11 on the left hand side. It is jus a few doors (or so) before that. It's the only place I've found pipe tobacco. Not a good selection of pipe tobacco, but they had lots of other tobacco there which I assumed would be for rolling.

i suggest contacting a local magazine, who can put you in contact with photographers or talking to the top camera store in town.

Same thing happened to me with a very well known women who is associated with the expat community. She did a bait and switch on me with a rental and continued to show me sub-quality rentals and when i finally said that i need to find my own place, i suddenly had a contract with her and she kept a months rent, would not answer phone calls, not show up for meetings to settle this and after waiting in her office for a few hours and her not showing up, i was given half of what she herself said she would. I figured that she is too well connected and i'm the new kid in town. i caulked it up to a learning experience that will hopefully save me more in the long run. I'm told others have had issues with this well known women. TIT.

Kuta is only a few kilometers from the airport and should only be $3.50-5.00 USD. I suggest you ONLY use BlueBird and demand a meter.
FYI - I consider Kuta a toilet and would avoid it. Seminyak is much nicer and only 1-2 kilometers away. Sanur is about 2-30 minutes away and i known as the red light district, but unlike bkk, it's all behind closed door and you will not know it's there. I'm up in Ubud, which is the cultural center. hope this helps
