My fiance is waiting on a date for her settlement visa interview (getting married in LOS in April), and has just been told by the embassy that we need to provide proof that I own my home here in the UK. Already provided last year's Council Tax bill, and I have copies of the Land Registry certificates in my name. Does it matter whether I send the originals supplied by the solicitors, or the one I've just downloaded off the website, and would it be worth sending anything else, ie utility bills, etc? Many thanks for any advice.

Sorry, don't know what happened above. Just wanted to say thanks to Scouse for coming up with the goods yet again.

I'm planning on getting spliced in Thailand in early April, and was hoping to get the visa more or less straight afterwards. Is that feasible? The UK Visas website says it can take up to 9 weeks to get the interview, but what if we apply 9 weeks in advance only to find they call my tee rak in sooner, ie before we're married? Thanks in advance for any help.
Apply in advance and ask for an interview for a date when you know you'll be married. Not too far in advance though as you then run the risk of them telling you to come back nearer the date.
Scouse.

After the longest 10 days of my life, I got my results back today (here in the UK) and they were all NEGATIVE! Had a full sexual health check-up because I'm planning on getting spliced and I couldn't bear the thought of passing something onto my tee rak. Always took precautions in my butterfly days, but there were a couple of accidents I just couldn't put out of my mind, even when told that less than 1% of all bar girls are carriers, and it's estimated there's only a one in two thousand chance of female to male transmission, even if your partner is a carrier. Please don't flame me on this, as I'm not trivialising the risks or encouraging unsafe sex, just trying to give a little hope to anyone currently in a similar position; this thread has certainly helped me get through the last ten days.

For heaven's sake try to keep calm when you see your boss. Maybe if you explain what's been happening? Hang in there mate, you'll get her here some day.

Let me get this straight, you're in for a fingering on Tuesday, and you want us all to cross our bo.... Good luck for the visa interview, and like a lot of others here I'll be rootin' for you both. Be sure to let us know.

Hi, I can't really add anything to what Scouser says, but I wonder if three months might not be a little long? Would the entry clearance officer at the embassy question whether you were really planning a simple holiday for her, or whether you both had an "ulterior" motive, such as your lady looking for work here? Three months would also be a heck of a long time if, for any reason, things didn't work out between you. I recently had my lady over for a two week holiday, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well she adapted. Remember, she can always phone and e-mail her friends back home if she gets homesick. My tee rak felt the cold sometimes, but she seemed surprised how easy it was to make Thai-style food. I only have a modest house out here in the sticks, but again she fitted in well; as someone once said to me, most Thai girls are used to sharing a room , so sharing a house is usually no problem. I'd say go for it. Remember what they say, you only really regret the things you don't do. Good luck.

Just found your answer to Eastender in another thread (probably saving me hours of searching for the info elsewhere) and it made me realise you must have helped hundreds of people that way over the months. So, whoever you are, THANKS!

Don't know enough to offer any advice, but I just wanted to wish you all the best. Let us know how you get on.

Hi, Martin. Thought you made a lot of good points in that letter, and I'd be interested to know if you got a reply? As an update to the original question in this thread, my GF got to the Embassy at 06.00 on August 9th, and there were already more than 30 in the queue. Opened at 07.30, and she got her passport back (with the visa stamped inside!) about 15.00.

Hi, everyone. Currently preparing paperwork for a UK Tourist Visa application, and I'm confused about how to prove I can support my Tee Rak's visit financially. She's in LOS and I'm in the UK. Everyone says to send copies of bank statements, but surely it's asking for trouble to give out account numbers and suchlike? Thought of blanking the numbers out of course, but would it still be valid evidence then? Never dreamed it would be so difficult to get a simple Tourist Visa, and my heart really went out to Big Spuds when I read his earlier thread. If you read this, mate, I hope everything works out for you. Anyway, thanks for any help, and sorry if this has already been dealt with (tried a search, but no joy)

For the visitors' visa I supplied my last council tax bill, which was accepted as enough, but for the settlement visa they wanted more, so I sent a copy of the land registry certificate (also apparently accepted) Good luck.
