  1. I only have a comment about "big" vs "little." This topic has come up quite often and I cannot for the life of me understand why the advice always seems to be to start small. My first legal street bike was a 1969 Harley Sportster 900cc, back in the day when you could get leaded 100 octane fuel. It was a pretty hot machine for the time.

Now I ride a Kawasaki 650cc ER6n. It is the biggest bike you can legally buy here right now without paying huge import duty and taxes (along with Ninja and Versys). This bike is considered a "starter" or "womens" bike in the US. It is only a "Big Bike" in Thailand. When I ride my father-in law's 110cc Honda Wave, the damned thing feels shaky and dangerous. In the west, this motorcycle would practically be considered to be a toy. Because stability is achieved by the gyroscopic effect of the spinning wheels, heavy wheels mean greater stability. A bigger bike is only more difficult to keep upright when stationary. A little girl can ride a liter bike if she can touch the ground with one foot.

If you truly will never go beyond a resonably small radius from home, by all means, get the 250 and save some gas. Or the Wave for just around the city. But if you want versatility and might someday want to take a ride to Nan, Chiangrai or even Bangkok, why not get something comfortable for such a trip? You can save money on a smaller bike, but you haven't saved anything if you replace it a couplfe of times. I have seen people go from a 110 cc to a 250, then to a 650. Where is the savings with a plan like that? If it wasn't for the greater cost because of the import factor, I'd say go to a full liter bike. There are members that warn against that, too, because of the ungodly power. Just learn to control the throttle. Just because a bike will pop wheelies in all six gears and go from 0 to 300 in 6.2 seconds, doesn't mean you have to ride that way.

    My two cents.

I agree, don't understand why people are recommending 150-250cc bikes. An er6n is a perfect starterbike, very easy to ride. In sweden people never start on anything smaller then that, you cant even get your big-bike-license with anything under 600cc.

So my tip is go for an er6n/f so you donät have to change bike 2-3 times in the first 3 months...

  2. Price seems too high. It's going to lose a lot of value rather quickly. I've seen 6 months old 2011 models go for only 10,000thb more.

    10000thb thats bs....

Nope. A guy on here sold his his 2011 tri-colour for 55,000thb about 6 months ago for a quick sale. Will still be in the CBR150 thread. German guy I believe.

Thats was me. Im not german tho, but sold it to one=)

  3. 6 months ago i had never even driven a scooter, and thought they were quick when i first tried one.

Now i have wouldnt go for anything below the er6n, didnt take long to get bored of my CBR150r that i bought as my first "real" bike. I rent a CBR600rr sometimes on the weekends now to get some fun and looking to buy a er6n soon.

If u go for anything below the er6n u will probarly get bored after a couple of months, if ur not only into cruising.

  4. i would say it's a bit strange that there is a BRAND NEW slip on muffler on a rental bike anyway.... It sounds to me like a set up.. hire the bike.. slip on gets "stolen" renter pays up.. then slip on maybe goes back on for the next guy.... repeat process.... maybe not. just sayingwhistling.gif

The guy don't know where i stay so i don't think it was a set up. First time in 6 years something get stolen he said, dam_n unlucky.

well, i drove the bike a total of maby 30 minutes yesterday and the bill: 20.000 baht..... yep i have to pay 18k for the slip-on=/

Ouch, that sucks, I'd never park my bike on a public street overnight...

Yeah, sucks BIG TIME=/, but im still going to have my big bike weekend so im going to rent some other bike with original parts haha..... im NOT going to ride my cbr150 this weekend no matter the cost haha.

  6. This is bullshit , rented a er6n with a new slip-on yesterday in patong (from the german guys near safari at the end of patong), And today when i was going to take a ride i noticed someone have stolen the slip-on tonight....

what to do now? i called the german guy who told me to come to the shop in 2 hours..... I guess i will have to pay for it? ....

Bummer, unfortunately bike in your possession you will have to pay. Most rental places carry liability insurance only... What kind of pipe was it?

Didn't check what kind it was yesterday, hope some cheap ass crap:P ...well... off to the shop now and see what they say...

should have Insurance, but if not

a friend has new slip ons at 16900 baht here in Phuket. PM if needed. I know Teera Phuket charges 25k for most brands

Okey thanks will do so if needed.

  8. Bloody hell. I'm assuming a rental place would have insurance on theft?

yeah i hope so, but the bike wasnt locked inside a garage or something like that, don't know if that will give me problems.... I live in very quite place (kamala) on a small road and u can't really see the bike..... but i guess someone did.... (or heared me when i pulled in) ....=/

  10. Was in Phuket town today to get a red 250 non ABS. 110k

try to find time to see some more dealers tomorrow, as more than 101k is silly

Honda in kamala have 250's for 101k. Not sure if they have the red one tho...

Thanks, my GF sister works there, so I guess we ll go there tomorrow, Bike is for GF, not me, and she was pissed today about the 110 in Phuket town, its 99k in her hometown. She hasnt started selling her old bike anyway, so she can wait for red if I let her ride my Ninja650R on occasions :D

Okey she wont be happy with the 150?=)selling mine soon 65k, think im gonna get a 650R, nice bike=)

  11. I hate all farangs (mostly hairy arabs and english shavs) who rents the biggest scooters like the t-max and goes around phuket like crazy and think they are cool, when they are clearly not, they are just wannaB big bike riders , but don't know how to drive a manual vehicle, and its so obvious.

Maxi scooters provide a level of comfort and simplicity of purpose that few other classes of bike do..

I like em.. But only as part of a bike collection.

Yes i understand that and have nothing against them in general, just many of the riders here in phuket, young farangs who wants to go fast but can't ride a big bike.

  12. I'm a new rider and i now have the CBR150i. i'm noticing that the outside of my palm is somewhat sore after every right. i think it's because of the angle (sweep) of the handlebar. should i adjust that a bit forward (less angled-in/straighter)? is anyone feeling the same?

also are u guys riding so that your ass is against the raised part or your crouched on the tank?

the clutch seems to engage near the end of the travel also.... normal? say from 1-10 (with1 being all the way to the grip)... it's 7/8.

Im usually croched on the tank.

I had the same clutch "problem" , just go to a honda shop (or any mechanic) and adjust it and it will be fine.

  13. Kool. Hope to God she wore a helmet when she did. My wife has no desire to drive mine, but says that riding pillion on the new one is much better than the old model.

    have fun & ride safe.

Yep she borrowed my real-helmet=), she can drive she had a cb400 a couple of years ago.

She had rather seen my buy a PCX tho, she doesnt really like me driving big bikes, makes her worried. But i told her what its like, only women drive automatics and she will never see me buy a scooter over a big bike:P
