So, when hundreds of thousands if not millions of tests are needed yesterday, they will provide just 100,000 of these new tests... 5 WEEKS FROM NOW?

But wait... I didn't see him apologize and Wai the farangs he insulted about face masks?

Well, the re-enactment of this crime could be interesting.

Rather than ask, WE will determine exactly what the people want and need by using BIG data collected by the (all-watching) BIG brother.

I'm not an expert, but it seems to me that it would be very difficult to: 1) tie your own hands behind your back, and 2) then hang yourself.... just saying...
Agreed... especially after having beaten yourself severely enough to cause bruising in your own ribs.

"Forest fires" suggest natural causes. But in truth, these are all man-made slash&burn fires. Thousands of years of human history suggest that it's better to attack the source, not the symptom. But then, of course, one would have to teach 'history' (in addition to 'science') in one's schools to recognize this.
It's a sorry state we're in...

While he is at it, I don't understand why he doesn't just order that ocean waves carry trash away from the beaches instead of to them. Then, done; air pollution solved in 6 days (rest on the 7th!) and beach trash gone with the moon. Easy.
Me thinks this is what happens when you don't teach science in schools, and education officials get their positions because of family names rather than academic accomplishments.

I like the headline: Tourists Warned to Respect Thai Culture.
Of course when it's Thai tourists who are the ones out trashing or in other ways disrespecting World Heritage Sites, or other country's National Parks, like, say, Yellowstone; then they are just "Thais being Thais," or "kids being kids," etc.
At any rate, here is a funny yet somehow related sign from near the Idaho/Wyoming border in the USA--where we live half the year when not here in Thailand.

Interesting.
The author just stated that he belongs to the group that divides the world into two groups:)

And this is what can be expected from TV posters -all Thais must be like this... don't you guys ever get bored of lumping everyone in together?
I once read that the world is divided into two groups: those who divide the world up into two groups, and those who don't.

Could be tempting to start some Thai or muslim bashing again !!....but stupid teens, getting bold when in their gang, are more of a global issue then an issue of nationality.
The strange thing is that the article talks about 'alumni.' So are alumni, teens? I also had to laugh about the: "well, there were numerous etchings in various languages." Right... and some of them might have been more than 1000 years old!!

Just curious... does anyone remember the death toll as a result of flooding in 2011? If so, how does it compare with this year? 19 in the last four weeks... or almost 5 per week seems pretty high.

Does this mean we will now be overrun by men's go-go bars?

It's funny that with the headline of the article (marrying a farang may not be a dream come true), it doesn't mention or talk about a single downside. It only mentions good results, yet keeps saying there are often many cultural problems. I read the article expecting to hear about some of these 'problems,' but no examples were presented. Is the article just poorly titled? Or are there no real problems?
My wife is Thai, and we live in Thailand half of each year. We are not rich, both of us still work hard, and her work ethic is equal to mine and/or any other that I see in the USA. I do have many problems with the language when we're in Thailand, and I don't get along with some of her more 'lazy' family members. But then I get along great with other family members--like her Mom and Brother.
We help the family just a little bit (less than 5000 THB per month), because I am more inclined to provide them (via one time purchases) with what they need to support themselves (e.g. tools, refrigerator, washing machine, cooking equipment, etc.). Nobody gives my sons in the USA money each month just because they are my sons, so I'm not inclined to simply give money to family-in-law just because they are family-in-law. I'm willing to help set up a family business, and if everyone works and pulls their own weight, then it is successful. But if people are lazy and don't work, then it is not successful, and I certainly don't step in to bail it out.
My wife's Mom understands this, appreciates it, and works as hard as my wife and I do. It's clear that my wife got her work ethic from her Mom. But others in the family don't work, so they get nothing from me. So yes, there are a few cultural challenges, which is why I wanted to read the article, to see what challenges others face. But the article says nothing about cultural challenges. Strange.

Far more foreigners relocate to Thailand and marry Thai women than Thai women move abroad with their foreign husbands. The reciprocal course curriculum would be much more stimulating and relevant and could focus on the ethical and moral acceptance of deception, scams and adultery.
Not to mention that while your wife can most likely become a permanent resident or citizen in your country, allowing her to work, own property, go to school, etc., you will never be allowed to work or own property here in Thailand no matter how long you are married.

Is this article correct? They must work 30 x 8 hour shift per month for 10k to 13k baht with no benefits??? That means working every day with one day off every other month, and extra shifts in February! They are not getting hired because they are slave labor!!
-
The headline alone tells the story. Starting police are paid what? 8000 per month, from which they must buy their own uniforms, weapons, etc.? But somehow that 8000 baht per month job is worth a 400,000 baht bribe to land the job. Yea, right--no corruption here.

In other words 70% have prostitutes on the side. Why anyone, Thai or not, would want a relationship with more than one Thai woman is a mystery.
555... Exactly what I think, Thai3. I often kid my Thai wife, saying: "are these men totally crazy or masochistic? One Thai wife is ENOUGH for any man!"

So the article does not asay that the rice has been bought but rather that the budget has been approved in the event it is necessary.
Also, the government has always bought some rice from farmers to stabilize prices, the Yingluck rice scheme departed from this practice by paying far more than market price to the farmers.
But, sincere question: if one (or a government) puts a big sum of money out in the form of a limit buy order, the purpose for which is to artificially keep the market prices at current levels, is that not the same as paying far more than market price? Obviously if the limit buy order was not there, the market price would drop significantly. That's the whole purpose of advertising such a multi-billion THB limit buy order. Well, that, and obviously to garner popular support right before a vote.
It is just another example of why there is no such thing as a 'free market' anywhere in the world.

Someone answering Suthi’s office Tuesday said the prosecutor would not speak on the matter out of fear “his words may affect the case.”
Really? What case?

No, this teacher is not a 'good person.' No, it doesn't matter if the student is a male or female. No, I don't care if the teacher's mother just died. No, it doesn't matter if the teacher's wife is having her period. No, I don't care if the student had been egging on the teacher on ALL DAY. No, it doesn't matter whether the students should be allowed to wear pants or not. No. You are the adult; the professional. Act like it!

I don't really understand the purpose of publishing a map and location of checkpoints, unless it's information being published so people can avoid them? Otherwise, seems counter-productive.
