This could be one of the most insane ideas ever from the government...... TAT wishes tourists to come, stay,
and freely spend money.
What is the point of charging an entry fee ? That makes about as much sense as charging a fee to enter a food supermarket. The red buffaloes voted these money grabbing lunatics into power, they are the one who should bear the pain of these endless government revenue ideas. Why punish foreign tourists ? They perhaps should enact a tax on buffaloes , rice land, or bar girl money sent to Isan.....
As I have stated before, the TAT is one of the biggest cash cows of this government; if the government is allowed to levy this additional fee on tourists, the Governor of the TAT is going to get a bit miffed...to say the least...!
I have had personal dealings, on an amicable basis, with this particular individual, and his predecessor, but I can promise you, if he gets miffed, there will be changes....!!
We bow to your superior knowledge, can he show us the way.............................LOL.................

So, is it only in Thailand? And if so, why? There are always plenty of kids in green shirts milling about the counter, no way they’re going to miss a new customer.I suspect the next post will be a praise of the new bahtbus air horns. The more noise the better.
Dag if all you can find to complain about in Thailand is the 7/11 customer alert dingdong sound, maybe you should
take long break on a quet island somewhere and relax mate. width=25 alt=thumbsup.gif> width=32 alt=coffee1.gif>
Thank you, Phuket’s pride and joy. Now, people, please be forthcoming with information, this is for a project, it’s important.
Important for what?? you taking over the 7-11 outfit?? or just too much free time on your hands ??

I hear many posters say something along the lines of "don't try to understand" or "go with the flow". But to me part of the fascination of living in a foreign and exotic country is to attempt to understand why a culture does what they do and why they think the way they think. Many posters have great insight in Thai culture, customs and thinking and I appreciate reading their posts. Other posters feel if you ask the question "why" you are complaining or being judgmental. Each morning I'm eager to get up early with the hope of learning something new. Thailand gives me lots of opportunities to see things from a different point of view. One thing I've learned is not waste time on "trying to understand". Too many things are totally different here. sometimes in a good way, sometimes in a bad way. Go with the flow is indeed the most comfortable way
Don't be surprised OP if G/F father dies & they come looking for money for funeral costs from yourself, call Thai culture or customs or whatever it's coming your way.

your mistaken the scheme was also open to cars upto 1500cc & that included the jazz & the full rebate 100,000baht, i'm being polite.
Are you sure?Bought a Honda Jazz year ago May and received our cheque last September earlier then expected.....direct deposit 100,000 baht....thank you very much!
I don't think any Jazz qualified for 100,000THB rebate.
Some pick ups did, but no cars.
You're perhaps a little mistaken.
I'm being polite.

You are quite correct in what you say, I too pointed out to him about mailing it also, but as said to him it was worth it and that's why he payed the extra, his choice.Op my friend had the same thing happen to him at Khon Kaen on his 90 day reporting and he decided to pay the extra [1500-baht] for this extra help and then the officer stamped and dated his 90 day reporting slips for the year, to him it was worth it as he's got over an hour drive each way to Khon Kaen to do his 90 day reporting. This is the first time he has had this offer made to him, so may be there has been some staff changes there and this is a new side line for them...
This strikes me as an illegal practice and, hence, not to be condoned despite its apparent convenience for your friend.
What if a possee from Immigration Bureau HQ in Bangkok were to visit Khon Kaen one day and unearth this particular scam through a spot-check of that particular office's activities? I suspect that not only the officer(s) who perpetrated it would be in serious trouble but also your friend and any other farangs who were deemed to be willing participants.
In any event, since, as has already been pointed out in post #6, Khon Kaen accept mailed-in reports, why does your friend not save a 2-hour return drive every 90 days by reporting in this way? EMS postage costs + 10 THB return stamps over a whole year would amount to a fraction of the 1,500 THB "fee" which he paid!
