But regardless, for me the issue is less to do with his indiscretion (which, I agree, taken in isolation is trivial) but the fact that the architect of the UK's COVID response - and of the lockdown rules themselves - failed to heed the very rules he set out for everyone else. Compound that with the infantile lies and contradictions that he and his cohorts told over an agonisingly prolonged number of days, treating the electorate as fools and distractions, and it is clear that he needs to go.
well said. See how everyone went to the beach or camping this weekend. If he can do it so can everyone.
off with his smarmy ‘I am better than you’ head

Hi Peter, I did the drive through for 90 day today as yesterday I did not have the TM form completed. Easy task as no one was queuing. I have opened a new account with SCB in CM and transferred the 800k from abroad. I just read on FB from a Krabi resident that an IO has just said anyone coming in after the end of July will need the health certificate, $100k and poss quarantine, so I hope I can nip across the border by land and back but will need to wait to see what Immigration decide.

Peter Denis, many thanks for letting me know I am now on overstay in paradise the perfect place for retirement. Will head South from CM next week to open an account, where I previously held an account and lodge 800k monies there. Hopefully get a lease on a new place then boarder cross asap and go for the VE 30 day - apply for 90 day non O then apply for extension for 1 year.
coincidentally, I went to CM immig today and the Assistant Inspector person simply said, oh as it is not due until Jan, you have to wait until later to see if Immig make any changes to requirements. Waste of a visit methinks. They also said I should do my 90 day using the drive through. 90 day is due June 01. I tried 90 day online as I usually do but Not Approved.
thanks for scaring me more than I am but good to know. Cheers

May I ask if your married to a Thai.
400K is the requirement for a marriage extension which doesn't require the mandatory Health Insurance for O-A entry. The 400K is only required to be in a Thai bank account for 2 months prior to your next extension application if based on marriage.
Tanoshi, no NOT married, so I will need the 800k 2 months before and 3 months after but should I have 400k in my account now until my extension application or keep it for the 7 months after. I am in CNX

Compare that with a retirement-extension where the 800K is to be kept two months before the application and three months after it, and for the remaining 7 months the balance should not go under 400K.
Peter Dennis, I am on OA with health insurance, which is valid until Jan 2021. At the moment I do not have 400k in my account as I withdrew all my monies in April with a view to going back to UK. Decided to stay here so if I transfer monies back now will I be ok when applying for a new extension next Jan or have I made life difficult for myself?

In CM I cannot go out cycling due to the pollution and intense heat, so put my bicycle on a roller machine, facing tv and watch youtube or netflix wearing airpod pros to noise cancel the rollers. No other half to complain. Great

Miracid capsules work for me. Taken one hour before eating and go easy on the beer. Endoscopy before revealed a small ulcer at the bottom of the oesophorgus, which was cleared by antibiotics but reflux is ongoing so Miracid regularly. About 70b for 10 caps

I made a simple Last Will for my Thai assets in English language signed and witnessed by 2 friends and I advised my beneficiary what accounts I have with SCB.

I am planning to do a Mae Sai border run, crossing with my OA voiding it then returning with either a VOA or the Visa exempt. Then back to CM to apply for a Non O.
Can anyone advise which one I should request if I have a choice, VOA or Visa exempt. I am from UK.
Also, my OA is valid until next Jan and I spent a fortune on Thai health insurance. Would one advise that I wait until nearer the expiry date or just get it over and done with soon. Stressful not knowing if I will get approval or not.
thanks

Here in Chiang Mai with serious air pollution and the virus threat, thinking, ah well, at least I have the motogp and F1 to look forward too. It all sucks and I had to fork out zillions for Thai health insurance.....

Hi Peter Denis, could I be a nuisance and also request the roadmap please? I just renewed my OA and got stung for the health insurance even though I have good cover from Bupa Worldwide but now has to be a Thai Company. I will hopefully change to Non O whilst remaining in Thailand. Many thanks

No valid re-entry permit so will likely go to Mae Sai. My visa expires on 8 Jan so maybe HNY in Chiang Rai and whizz up to Mae Sai.
many thanks for your help and enjoy your xmas

Not married
Ubonjoe (aka santa claus) many thanks. I think option 1 is the way to go. I just went back to immig and could show them proof of 600k deposit from abroad as I already had a Thai bank account with the other 200k but no proof of it. Officer said to explain during the interview for non O. Seems crazy as I have had over 800k in a fixed deposit account for 8 years.
for a 30 day visa exempt can I go to Mae Sai as I can get there and back in a day?

Merry Xmas all,
just been to immig at CM thinking it would be empty as it is xmas day and fortunately all ok and got number 3. However, as I originally came 8 years ago on an O/A, I am still on O/A. I thought they changed it after the first year as it states O now.
IO would not accept my Bupa Worldwide insurance as it must now be from a Thai company so I have these options:
1. Leave (Voiding my retirement extension) and come back on a 30 day tourist visa and during that time apply in CM for a 90 day O visa then get that converted to a Non O retirement permission to stay.
2. leave, again voiding current extension, and go to a Thai Embassy in KL, Luang Prabang, Savannaket, Penang etc and apply/get a non O retirement and come back.
can anyone advise me which route is best.
i use the 800k method.

The OP was commending CM IO. UJoe responded and was corrected regarding the waiting time. All is fine. Then the next 90% of comments are by so many time wasters (not all, apologies to those who were positive), please get a life, learn some Thai language, I did post 65yo, or please, please, leave this wonderful country. Eff off in other words

I am in a similar situation having gone under the minimum 400k Required for the 7 months on the 800k O/A extension. Money is now back in the account but was out for 6 weeks in April/May. As my extension will need renewal next Jan 2021, will I be on overstay for about 10 months and potentially jailed/deported and fined. If I used a fixer agent, would I then have to use the fixer for further extensions?
