  1. Hello,

I have fished many places along the bank near Chonburi and the fishing has been pretty spotty. Once in a while you can catch a really big fish. I caught an 8 kilo stingray near Koh Loi and a five kilo silver fish off the Bangsean pier. A place I will go this Sunday will be the Lam Chabang port where some days they do really well. The problem is that there is so much netting in the shallow water, that the good fishing will be out in a boat. If you want to split a boat trip some weekend, email me and we can go out of Jomtien beach. A friend knows a guy that will take two people out for only 2500 baht.

  2. It seems like someone likes to promote a tour company and says the only way you can have a good time is with a guide. In a day where the internet is full of information and people are out to share information, many people choose to spend their money on either a more expensive venue or using the money they saved towards a nice dinner. Their are people with money to blow where they do not mind spending a couple extra thousand baht a day, but sometimes you can meet up with someone who doesn't mind sharing information and making a new friend. In America, I have always posted an open seat on my boat for free when the fishing is good and offer help to people on the lakes when they are having a hard time catching a fish. I have friends that are guides that pretty much babysit people that are too lazy to bait their hooks and likes to sit in a 100k boat. Correct me if I am wrong, but many people who go on this forum to share information or looking for opinions on fishing areas and technique.

  3. I would have to agree that bankokhooker is a great website about all the large venues and has all the information you need to fish. Another one will be John-Tom website that has GPS coordinates of the places. Many places you can hire a guide or simply ask someone who is fishing. Although I do not speak Thai, I can always ask for help, and people are more than happy to help at the ponds. Generally guides are used when you are lazy and do not want to mix the bait or even have to cast your fishing pole. For some people like me, it is the fun part of fishing.

    Happy fishing.

  4. Great place to fish and cheap, only 100 baht per rod. Pretty much anything will work there if you fished for bugs or sawai before. I have done well with just bread on a hook under a bobber, but if you are not getting bites, move to a spiral under a bobber. You can fish a spiral without a bobber and most of the time, you will not need to wait for a bite. The rods for rental are 300 baht a day but not sure. Just buy bags of Lam and do not bother using any scent.

  5. The guys at work have been catching Pla Sawai and Pla Bug every week here, but I did not think that they caught as many fish as I have seen. They caught at least 200 kilos of fish in one night. The fish are all 5 to 7 kilos and they catch an occasional 20+ kilo fish. The positive part of this would be they are catching them with fishing rods, rather than nets. They are just using bread and flavored syrup. The fishing is real slow in the daytime compared to night fishing. Here is an area of Bang Sai.

  6. Hello,

On the coil feeder or lead, you use it, so it slides on your line. The fish will pull on the bait and not feel the weight if you have your drag soft enough. I use fairly small hooks and most of the time, they will swim away without you having to set the hook. I use an american size eight hook. I use two or four hooks, so when a fish bites and not get hooked, there is still bait and you are still fishing.

Sliding: Take the line from the end of your rod and slip a coil feeder or lead on, next put a small bead so it doesn't damage your knot, tie a swivel to the end, and tie at least two hooks that are four to six inches long to the swivel.

Another method is tying two hooks above the lead and use the least amount of lead just so you can cast.

If the fish are there and you use the correct bait, they should bite almost instantly when you cast out. In lakes where they are plentiful, I just hold the rod and once in a while reel a turn or two and they will bite.

When you plan to go and where do you go? I can meet you sometime and show you on a weekend.

    Good luck,

    thanh

From what i observed. Small-medium size Tilapia will tug/peck the baited hook with vigor & energy. But the larger size Tilapia (1.5kg above) will just slowly delicately suck the bait on just a split 1-2 second time frame. Making striking on time impossible for me at least. Up till now i HAVE NOT BEEN successful in landing a 1kg size above tilapia on Thai rental ponds. And it beginning to depress me greatly LOL.Especially when the Thais began to see me as the 'foreign idiot' on their pond. Nevertheless, im going to succeed in this. And will never give up.

And advice or information is greatly appreciated/welcome.

    Cheers

  7. Robbie, I think you made a good point about having more customers, it is a lot cheaper to not to have to feed the fish. It is simple economics and people will vote with their wallet. They make money on the cost per rod plus you are feeding the fish. The owners are entitled to charge whatever they think the customers are willing to pay, if if customers do not see the value, than they have to drop their prices.

I disagree with one of the replies where they say you make a lots of money and you should not complain. If they were a millionaire, does it mean they will pay fifty bucks for a bottle of water? I go to many fishing parks that guys spend hundreds of baht on bait, when they only pay a hundred baht to fish.

  8. Hello,

I have been more successful than the locals with the coil and multiple hooks with small pieces of bread. Another way is to buy a few shrimp at the store and cut them into tiny chunks. What is also easy is I use just bread and shrimp scent and once it hits the water the bite. I use multiple hooks, so I hook at least one each cast. The scent I use is from the US called Mike's shrimp gel scent. I out fish the guys that use the coil feeder with the foam balls because it is only effective on the river where there are lots of snags.

  9. Why lie to a girl? You can be anybody, but you don't have to lie to get laid here. It is Thailand and you should be able to get all the sex you want. It is just wrong for a bar girl to cheat someone like a farang who lies and get a girl to think he is in it for a long haul. A couple of buddies here also believe to tell their wives or girlfriends that they want more spice in life and it works out.

  10. A friend of mine chatted with a guy for less than a week and this is what he wrote. I don't think it is right to tell a lie to get laid or lead people on. This guy is no better than a bar girl that takes a guy for a ride.

  11. It would be cool to see you use the boat. Never seen it done. You use 40 pound braid on the Shimano baitrunner? The Cahos are actually more fun than the Bugs. They run faster and longer than the Bugs. I have more fun with the longer rod, even though it doesn't have the same power the shorter rod has. The Owner hooks are sharp but I prefer the Gamakatsku because the don't rust and I think they are stronger. You must be putting tons of pressure in order to bend the hook. It means you tie good knots.

I have found sailing my bait boat out with my line to the other side is almost a garanteed run on the rod. It might be small sawai or carp or even a big one you never know.

Its part cheating but with the bait boat i can dump groundbait and normal bait from a short rod with a reel. But i can get to the other side with just bread on my long rod and catch sawai or even carp. Big bugs will be hard on my long rod and 40lb braid.

  12. Meeting up would be great. I have the weekends off, so shoot me an email when you go. I think weekdays are better with less people and the fish are not so full from too many people fishing. It is a very nice place there, minus the trash. It gets boring when you cast and once the bait hits the water and you get a fish. Gnau nam makes you experiment to catch fish.

    Happy fishing

  13. My link

Was a slow day yesterday at Gnau Nam. Caught a Caho, Sawai, and a few Plah Buk. 90% of the fish were caught on the far bank. Normally you catch Sawai's on the far bank, but the Cahos and Plah Buk were caught from there. Not very many people there because the workers said it was loaded full of people at night. Fished for only 8 hours and managed only six fish.

  14. I had a pretty good weekend fishing at a small pond in Kanchanaburi. It was a small pond 50baht and 50baht for bait. It had lots of plah buk there. The owner saw that I wasn't catching fish so he brought out some special bait and hooked bait for me. It is the guy in the second picture who's name is Koh . I dropped by another pond half an hour away from there and met some farangs that told me there were no places to fish in Kanchanaburi. I was a little torqued that a little pond in the middle of nowhere charged double for farangs. It wasn't much, but when you go to a fishing park, you buy drinks, food, and bait, so there is no reason to charge farangs more. So going to the little pond in Kanchanaburi was a way better experience.

    Happy fishing!!

  15. You were mentioning about finding out how deep a lake is. You should check out the smartcast fish finder. You cast a transducer with a rod and it shows if there are fish near and how deep it is. In the US they are only around a hundred dollars.

  16. I used 80 pound Dacron at Shadow lake and it did no make a difference. I normally use tough line that is a fraction the size of Dacron. The fish here mainly key on scent and also the water isn't clear, so for the fish here it makes no difference. For lake fishing for trout or steelhead fishing, it definitely makes a difference in presentation.

  17. Jomtien fishing park is 100baht per rod. Very cheap. It isn't a very large place, but very good price for catching fish on every cast. I only caught Sawai's. They say that there are a couple of very large fish mixed in. I didn't see, but it is a great place that I would visit again.

I would not waste money on lam there, just a piece of bread on hook and cast to the other bank with a bobber and it is fishon!

  18. You point is correct about over estimating for ponds to get more clients. It is about the experience of fishing and having a great day catching fish, hanging with friends, or even a nice environment with great food. I think the stock is one point at a fishing park, but also the service is just as important for me. I went to Gnau Nam that you were talking about for the first time, and it was a great experience.

    Thanks,

  19. Hello,

I think that everybody who goes to a fishing park is looking for something different. Some people are looking for a challenge, fish to eat, easy catching, big fish, or a nice environment. Either you want to cater to one group or have a place large enough to cater to the different groups. Pricing and what you want to provide is the key. If you have multiple lakes for different difficulties would be ideal. Some people want to catch a fish every cast and some people want to test there skill and see if they can catch a trophy. I have been to many places and the most important thing to me is clean bathrooms, friendly service, good food, and fair pricing. A good example is Cha Am fishing park. I think they would be very busy if closer to Bangkok and many people talk about them. They have lots of fish, cheap, clean, and very friendly.

Hope to check out your fishing park.
