If your headed south anytime between 5pm and 7pm. Its hell as you reach The Point opposite the Hospital.
Took me 45 mins from there to crossing the lights at the intersection.
Seconded. It's so frustrating because I feel something could be done to ease this congestion at peak times. Perhaps giving priority at the lights would help?
Is anyone making a U-turn at Phuket International Hospital and then taking the road behind Big C?
Priority at the lights would only screw up the traffic from the other directions even more.
How about an underpass?
Who cares about the other directions? I'm not coming from them.

Nai Harn Gym is planning further expansion and increasing the size of their CV and weights sections. Fees are reasonable and the gym is well kept. Having gone there for the last two years I don't think ill change even though this new place is much closer to home.

Excellent drive through this area and all the way through to Mai Khao. No traffic anywhere from 7-8AM.
It's teachers day so schools are closed. This must mean that ALL the congestion problems are caused by parents taking their children to school! Right?

While my expenses are distributed a bit differently, the sum is quite the same. Less electric, more rent, less bar, more gasoline, no smoke, more internet.
Regarding the driving rules: be very careful near tourist places, especially watch out for tourists on motorbikes. Many of them are driving a scooter (let alone big bike) for the first time in their life.
General rule of thumb seems to be Thais will crash into you and you may crash into a tourist.
I feel that you could get by on a bit less than 50K. I did 30K for about 6 months, was okay.

Oh, and 89.5 was not working well again this morning. Bad re-verb.

I like Jason - I feel his music industry knowledge is excellent and he has a good radio presence.
I hear what your saying about the Thai language but given his popularity I think he may have some Thai listeners too.

Hopefully now you bake as many pasties as you want, shag!

Couldn't tune in to 89.5 this morning.
Wonder why they're off air?

30 mins to get from Tesco Samkong to Central Last night at about 18:30.
What could be causing this delay?
Central traffic lights off and BIB attempting to control the traffic. AWESOME.

I tune in to breakfast on occasion. Aussie guy is bit much sometimes but the two together works quite well. I'd like to hear more island news, perhaps get some guests in to give their opinions on common topics. Eg Infrastructure, economy etc.
Sound quality usually forces me to switch off at the monument, heading North.

I commute through here in a car from Mon-Fri. South to North and back.
Going at about 7am, the majority of the delay is, as mentioned above, South of the junction where cars trying desperately to get through create lanes that are not there then merging slowly.
Coming at about 7pm it's BAD. Cars trying to U-Turn just outside Cental are backed up so badly that cars trying to keep heading South can't get through. Then, as mentioned above, delays further South are just as bad.
I feel that the only solution is for me to move or get a new job.

I'm firstly blaming the van drivers. Total and utter disregard for others with arrogant, selfish and dam_n dangerous driving. Then secondly the tour operators that employ these untrained, unsuitable individuals to transport tourists.
After sitting in the traffic at this accident and passing it by, the remainder of my commute saw several commuter vans driving in the usual dangerous manner. 120KPH in the bike lane, full of sunburnt faces.
Something must be done to stop this from happening so frequently.

Arrived back in Phuket after a visit home in June only to be ripped off at customs and then shown aggression at the metered taxi area when asking them to use the meter to take us to Chalong. He refused and we paid 500 - not too bad.
Customs tried to charge us 5000 THB. I argued that as the items were purchased in Thailand before we left they're not taxable - he wouldn't have any of it so eventually I said 'Okay, I'll pay. Get me a receipt please.' Then the amount changed to 1000! So I paid and left.
Really made me homesick. :-(

Has anyone ever got the deposit back?

Well done USA! The world is with you!

Thomson really like to cram in the seats too. I can imagine a truely horrible 12 hour flight squashed into their seat configuration. Probably paying crazy prices for drinks too.
I agree! The fare would need to be at least 5k THB cheaper than Qatar/Malaysian etc to make me choose them.

Delish is great for food and cakes too!

A Thai friend has just cancelled his Er6n order because of this rumour...
-
You're not missing anything. The disparity has occurred over the last 4 years due to the devaluation of most if not all western currencies against the baht, i.e. 4 years ago the fare for the journey you mention would have been roughly the same value be it in sterling or baht. The only way around this would be for you (or somebody on your behalf) to buy your tickets in the UK. I would also try Emirates, as they are doing a direct Dubai/Phuket/Dubai flight from 10th December, and have good connections to Manchester.
The price in sterling from BKK-LHR is more expensive than LHR-BKK.
I pay with my UK credit card but still have to pay more. East to West is just more expensive, I'd expect the other way around!

I think the Er6N is about 257K.
For me, 57K is a lot of money.
