I showed up at the new Chiang Mai, Thai Immigration office to renew my one year visa. I'm still not certain why we are required to do this every year. The parking lot in front of immigrations entrance was packed with people standing in line to get a number so they could enter the already packed building. I stood in line for about twenty minutes and barely moved a few feet.
As I looked around, I had to wonder who on earth is the ringleader of this circus? This is a brand new facility and is obviously too small to accommodate the foreigners who live in Chiang Mai, in spite of the recent exodus of westerners. How could this be when these people already know the traffic numbers of foreigners required by law to report for yearly visa renewals, nonsensical 90 day reporting, TM30's, and other ridicules reasons they require foreigners to physically report daily to this facility.
I gave up waiting but as I was leaving this circus, I couldn't help notice several BMW's in the parking lot with immigrations logo on the doors and equipped with overhead emergency lights on the vehicle roof. You have got to be kidding me, lol. These people have the funds to purchase BMW's, and don't have the money to build an adequate immigration facility? This facility has three floors with no elevator. I guess Thai's have little to no regard for the elderly or handicapped. After all, they are just foreigners.
I had to park my vehicle across the street from immigration due to immigrations limited vehicle parking. I guess not much thought was put into the parking lot capacity either. As I attempted to walk across the street at the marked cross walk, I was reminded of pedestrians not having the right away in Thailand. The westerner in front of me must not have known this yet. He came within inches of being run over as the Thai driver pretended not to see him as he drove through the cross walk.
As I share my recent experience at Thai Immigration, I have an air cleaner sitting next to me running full bast. The air quality in Chiang Mai, is extremely poor due to Thailands lack of enforcement of polluting the air we breath. Instead of photographing foreigners who missed their 24 hour TM30 reporting requirement, surrounded by immigration officers who should be sitting at their desks processing the endless forms required by foreigners, maybe they could photograph air polluters instead.

Couldn't find Thailand on that list....
Thailand is on the list but is no longer viewed as a viable retirement destination. Thai Immigration has been discouraging westerners from moving to Thailand, with their ever increasing requirements. When one adds that to the yearly visa extensions, nonsensical 90 day reporting, depositing funds in a Thai Bank, and now 24 hour TM30 reporting, it just isn't worth it anymore.
This retirement index is published by "International Living" which is less than reliable in their country ranking, and actually recommends some destinations that are dangerous to move too.

I will certainly sleep better tonight knowing this elderly law breaker is behind bars and is no longer a threat to Thailand. This is a good example of how effective the yearly visa renewals, 90 day reporting, and TM30's, are in keeping track of less than honest foreigners who fail to abide by the above mentioned requirements. Great job and please continue to rid Thailand of these dangerous foreign law breakers.

I think this guy is having a bad dream. What western tourists would want to work in such a poor country for peanuts, when they could earn a decent living in their own country. These people should focus their attention on hunting down real criminals, and stop harassing tourists, and 90 day or even the dangerous TM30 violators. ????

What historical records are you talking about ? Even in the bible there are no first person accounts of his life eg. "Jesus said to me..." Julius Caesar's life is well documented, not only through other peoples reports but also from his own writings.
As for heaven he said that heaven is not a place it is within you.
You may want to read the Bible for yourself. Have you ever heard of Jesus’ 12 original apostles? They had plenty to say about Jesus and what they saw with their own eyes.
You are a good example of a non-reader and lost soul. Don't feel bad though, Thai Visa has a large group of like minded individuals posting silly comments daily on this subject.. After reading your comment, you could easily be their leader. Thanks for sharing.

I don't believe CM Immigration received the December 2019, memo about immigration softening their stance on tourist and expat visas. Many western retirees who have been in Thailand, for several years have been denied visa extensions ever since the begining of 2019. I doubt if 2020, will be any different and maybe even stricter.

All those Thais amongst whom you live in CM - do you keep banging on to them about how they will all end up in hell?
If I were you, I would spend less time posting silly comments, and more time thinking about what you do or don't do. Do you know of another series of books in human history that maintained the supernatural consistency that is present within the pages of the Bible. From the first book of Genesis to the last book of Revelation, approximately 40 men penned individual treatises that combine to form the best-selling, most widely distributed, perfectly united, flawlessly written book ever produced.
Mere human genius never could have produced a work with such predictive prophecy, scientific foreknowledge, and overall factual accuracy. Common sense leads me to the only rational conclusion, the Bible is the word of God. I wonder what part of this you don't understand.

In the Old Testament there are over 250 prophecies about a coming Messiah. Each one of these is fulfilled in minute detail in the life of Jesus Christ. While it is true that most people’s lives can only be chronicled after they have lived it, the life of Jesus was chronicled before He arrived on Earth.
In addition, a host of the prophecies concerning Christ were intentionally specific and could not have been arranged by a mere human who was falsely claiming to be the Messiah.
For instance, the Old Testament told where the Messiah would be born (Micah 5:2), a situation that cannot be manipulated by the one being born. The circumstances of the Messiah’s death were detailed, even down to His burial, which provides another instance in which the deceased could not have connived a fulfilment.
For those who are unfortunate enough to pass away before figuring out the Bible is the word of God with no errors, you will have an eternity of regret. We have until our last breath to accept Jesus Christ as our savior. After that it is a done deal.

We travel in much different circles. Almost without exception, the people I know who have left Thailand over their increasing idiotic rules have enough money to live any where they want.

As a matter of interest (and I'm assuming your handle means you're in Chiang Mai) presumably you believe that all of the Thais amongst whom you live are destined for Hell?
Instead of asking me silly questions about who I believe is destined for Hell, maybe you should spend less time tip toeing through the tulips with your same sex friends, and read what the Bible says about this subject. Please read Romans 1:18-20 and Psalm 19:1-4.

I have read so many ignorant comments saying man created God, and God is a product of blind faith or primitive man came up with this idea.
We all know the universe began to exist. This needed a cause. The universe is finely tuned and cannot happen by sheer chance. It is obvious the fine tuning of the universe is due to design. Was all this one big accident? I think not and neither should any of you.
I think the answer is self-evident. God created the universe and we need to respond to His creation and His promise of ever lasting life.

According to the cost of living index Odessa is cheaper than Bangkok-----the exception being restaurant prices.
My friend told me the same thing but they have cold winters there. Other than the winters, it sounds interesting.

I personally know several western retirees who been been here for several years, start leaving Thailand at the first of the year when Thai Immigration stopped allowing them to show sufficient funds in western banks and brokerage accounts.
When you talk to owners of restaurants in the Nimmanhaemin area, they will say the same thing about loosing many of their long term western customers. The funds immigration wants deposited into Thai banks, and the TM30 reporting seemed to be the last straw for most. Thai Immigration already had the idoitic 90 day reporting and yearly visa renewal nonsense.
The Chinese seem to be replacing the westerners but Thailands tourist industry is so unsafe, they have been getting many of the Chinese tourists killed in boat accidents. Thailand as a western retiree destination has lost its luster. The western retiree is moving on to less restrictive countries and even returning to their home countries.

Ukraine seems popular to hang out cheaply for awhile though residency would be difficult.
I have a friend who lives in Odessa, Ukraine. He married a Ukraine woman, and said living there is such cheaper than Thailand, but the winters are brutal.

Care to share a more recognised example of Christianity than the Catholic church!?! - I honestly thought the 2 were synonymous with each other (and I'm not being facetious here, that's what I honestly think/thought but am always happy to learn & be corrected)
The reference to drinking beer & smoking weed comes from a 2pac song (Ghetto Gospel) , the verse goes somewhere along the lines of...
If I upset you, don't stress, never forget that God isn't finished with me yet
I feel his hand on my brain when I write rhymes, I go blind & let the Lord do his thing
But am I less holy, because I chose to puff a blunt & drink a beer with my homies...
The reference to "Man Love" is because your religion personally attacks my (Gay) brother....
Funny story, when he "Came out to me" (whilst walking back from a Christmas Eve drinking session, so actually Christmas day at this point) my exact words were... "It just leaves more rampant totty for us real men", which is a line from Blackadder, probably means nothing to you but was a popular TV show in the UK at that time & I knew my brother would get the joke & more importantly knew it would put him at ease... I know it wasn't easy for him to tell me that

You said that the people who came up with the TM30 didn't think about the hardship for older retirees.
I explained to you that in 1979 (when the immigration act was written) a retirement visa didn't exist.
Probably most foreign retirees back then had permanent residency status, no TM30 required.
So it's not surprising that they didn't think about retirees when they wrote the law requiring a TM30.

What does the TM30, 24 hour reporting have to do with yearly visa extensions other than both being nonsensical?

What kind of fk'd-up world do you live in?
Grow up
Care to share with the class what the Pope (Decent guy if you ask me) has very recently done re: Child sex abuse claims in the Catholic church... No stone to hide under anymore...
Referring to the Pope or the Catholic religion isn't a very good example of Christianly. These people don't follow the Bible and use a lot of paganism in their church.
Unless you are planning on moving to some radical Muslim country, no one is going to stone you for drinking beer, smoking a joint or participating in your man love fantasies. You may want to consider you own advise but thanks for sharing.

TM30 weekends is on the ground floor. Waltzed in there 2 Saturdays back straight from the airport at 1100 and there was just 2 immigration officers there, not another soul to be seen.
CM Immigration only gives you 24 hours to report for your TM30. People can't always go to immigration on the weekends. During the week, they don't care if you are in a wheelchair. They want you to climb those three flights of stairs.
I would say, whoever came up with this loonie 24 hour, TM30 reporting, did it with the hardship it would make on elder retirees. Why on earth wouldn't they have installed an elevator. These people had the money for BMW vehicles for their immigration officers. Think about that vehicle purschase for a minute.

The country of Georgia will give you a one year visa when you visit, and appears to be at least as inexpensive as Thailand, if not cheaper. You certainly don't have to put up with a lot of immigration nonsense like you do in Thailand.

Chiang Mai, Thai Immigration
in Chiang Mai
Posted
My friend who was visited by immigration is a retired Australian police officer, that has lived in Thailand for about 14 years. He has a regular retirement visa with the required 800,000 baht in a Thai bank.
You appear to be living in la la land, if you can't see how Thai Immigration has increased their less than friendly treatment directed towards westerners. It's okay, you are not alone. There are many westerners that don't see what is coming their way either. It was the same for many in Germany before WWII.
