I used my Paypal account on the 17th Dec when I received money into it, and then quickly transferred it to my Thai bank account. So, it seems they are not sticking to their 15th Dec closure edict? ......is it just me or are others still being able to use THEIR PP accounts?

Just a thought, if my Thai wife opened a new account with Paypal and went through all the NDID rigmaroll but used my email address, would THAT 'work'? - Oh..... what about the 2-step log-in - when I log-in on my PC, Paypal send me a log-in code which I must use. The log-in code would go to HER mobile phone so she would need to be next to me when I wanted to log-in?...... just trying to find a work-around!

Anyone got any updates on Paypal Thailand's discriminatory dictat about barring anyone who is not Thai from using their platform? After all it contravenes the UN Declaration on Race and Racial Prejudice, Article 2.2 .....2. Racism,  of which Thailand is a signatory!

Another beef I have is they have not defined what they term as a 'resident'. Do they mean someone who resides (ie. lives) in Thailand? Or do they mean someone who holds a Residents Permit. The latter definition makes no sense as a Residence Permit holder is obviously not a Thai national.

This whole sorry saga is nonsensical at best, and racist at worst!.

So who exactly is making up these discriminatory rules? Is it a Thai government department, The NDID entity (whoever THEY are), The soon-to-be Paypal Thailand or Paypal head office USA?

Found out yesterday that a friend of mine in Chiangmai, Philip Marshall, had passed away on Sunday 28th Nov. after a short illness. He lived in the Faham district of the city and was a regular at the Mad Dog bar/restaurant on Moon Muang Road. A quiet, friendly chap who used to arrange Christmas dinner get togethers at several places over the years. I shall miss him, he was one of the 'good guys'. R.I.P my old friend.

I would also like to know about internal flight travel. - My (Thai) wife will be flying from Sukhothai to Bangkok soon. Will she need any test or certificate or anything upon check-in at Sukhothai airport? Thanks in advance.

Hi CharlieH - I have an 8" square box  2" deep to send 10 or 12 45rpm vinyl records to UK (approx 600 grms totalweight). Do you think #13 ePacket would be appropriate?

Looking online on the Thai Post website to find out cost to send a smallish parcel abroad. I did the weight calculation and then you are presented with a long list of options on method to send. I looked at #17: Int’l Small Packet-Air as being a likely choice...but then I wondered what is the maximum parcel size allowed to be classed as 'Small Packet'. At what size does a 'Small Packet' become a 'Int’l Parcel-Air'? - I cannot find anywhere on that site that explains any dimensions. Does anyone here know of where this info might be available to read?

From Thai Immigration website:- DETAILED INFORMATION NEEDED FOR RESIDENCE PERMIT APPLICATIONS(BY YEARLY QUOTA PER NATIONALITY)
1. An applicant’s qualifications
1.2 has personal qualifications that fit one of the following categories:(1) Investment category(2) Working/Business category(3) Humanity Reasons category: he/she must have relationship with a Thai citizen or an alien who already possessed residence permit asthe followings:1)  A legal husband or wife.  2)  A legal father or mother.  3)  A child who is under 20 years of age up to the application submission date and must be single.

I am looking at Section 1. Subsection 1.2 category(3): Humanity reasons...
I read this as meaning that if one has a legal Thai wife, that can be a reason for applying for PR?
If that is true then presumably all the references and proofs about working/place of work etc do NOT apply and are not required, as one is NOT applying under category(2) Working/Business? - Or have I understood this wrongly?

Re- Thai Airmail post...

I just got back from the Main Sukhothai Post Office (next to the river Yom). I wanted to send a small packet (a 7" vinyl record) to someone in Sweden. I was told "cannot" as Sweden, along with many other countries are on the new 'No Airmail' list. The P.O. guy said he could send it by sea mail but it may take 2 - 3 MONTHS!!! - I shall let my Swedish friend know the bad news!????

I very much hope the lawyer in that video is wrong! ????

1. Does a farang with PR (Permanent Residency) still have to do the 90-day reporting at Immigration and the yearly extension? Or does the fact that having PR take you out of the hands of the Immigration police and into the hands of the ordinary police?

I live in Sukhothai (new) city and my Seeburg jukebox (plays vinyl 45s) has an intermittent fault. No big deal but slightly annoying - doesn't always play the correct selected song! ???? - Anyone know of an old JBox engineer that could come and have a look at it? The guy that used to service it has died ???? so I need to find another one. I know this is a long shot, but I need to ask!

I asked the original question because I live in Sukhothai and when enquiring at the local Tessaban what they required they wanted the following:

1. House Rental Agreement. (I do not own, but rent a house)

2. Marriage Certificate. (I am married to a Thai woman)

3. 4 x 2" photos.

4. Proof of previously working in Thailand. (I am on a 1 year retirement visa annual extension)

5. Passport.

All documents in English to be translated into Thai by the British Embassy in Bangkok and certified as true translation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also in Bangkok.

I am not sure what pages of my passport need to be translated - surely they won't need EVERY page where there is English written, ie: the first page with the "Her Britannic Majesty's Secretary of State..." blurb about letting the passport holder travel freely 'without let or hindrance' etc? When I lived in Chiang Mai, all document translations from English to Thai were done by a government certified translation service in Chiang Mai. So easy!

Reading through this thread about how dfferent Amphurs/Tessabans require differing documents for the application of a yellow Tabian Ban made me wonder, what are the LEGAL requirements set out by the governing body (government dept) for the issuance of said yellow book? I am presuming that there are such legal requirements and that each Amphur/Tessaban adds their own extra requirements to it! - Legal government requirements anyone?

Does anyone know - has the vinyl record shop on Wualai Road (Wualai Records) closed permanently?

I visited there but the shutters were not opened and there was a 'For Sale' notice affixed to the front of the second floor of the building, so I am wondering if the ground floor record shop has stopped selling. I telephoned several times over the last few days but it switches to messaging.

Had to chuckle when I saw the heading starting with "A JOINT operation...."

Next year I will have had my third consecutive 1 year visa renewal and afterwards I would like to apply for Permanent Residence.

My one-year visa is 'Retirement' category (with enough money in a Thai bank).

Today I enquired at a visa service office (in Chiang Mai) whether they had a service for helping to prepare for PR, but to my surprise I was informed that I couldn't apply (in the future) for PR after a Retirement Visa! - They thought that I must first change my 'Retirement Visa' to a 'Marriage Visa'. Does anyone know if this is correct - or is this visa service office just not familiar with PR requirements?

Any thoughts/info much appreciated.
