Just a thought, if my Thai wife opened a new account with Paypal and went through all the NDID rigmaroll but used my email address, would THAT 'work'? - Oh..... what about the 2-step log-in - when I log-in on my PC, Paypal send me a log-in code which I must use. The log-in code would go to HER mobile phone so she would need to be next to me when I wanted to log-in?...... just trying to find a work-around!

Anyone got any updates on Paypal Thailand's discriminatory dictat about barring anyone who is not Thai from using their platform? After all it contravenes the UN Declaration on Race and Racial Prejudice, Article 2.2 .....2. Racism, of which Thailand is a signatory!
Another beef I have is they have not defined what they term as a 'resident'. Do they mean someone who resides (ie. lives) in Thailand? Or do they mean someone who holds a Residents Permit. The latter definition makes no sense as a Residence Permit holder is obviously not a Thai national.
This whole sorry saga is nonsensical at best, and racist at worst!.

Just a thought......Thailand is a member of the UN. Here is the UN Declaration on Race and Racial Prejudice, Article 2.2 .....2. Racism includes racist ideologies, prejudiced attitudes, discriminatory behaviour, structural arrangements and institutionalized practices resulting in racial inequality as well as the fallacious notion that discriminatory relations between groups are morally and scientifically justifiable; it is reflected in discriminatory provisions in legislation or regulations and discriminatory practices as well as in anti-social beliefs and acts; it hinders the development of its victims, perverts those who practise it, divides nations internally, impedes international co-operation and gives rise to political tensions between peoples; it is contrary to the fundamental principles of international law and, consequently, seriously disturbs international peace and security.
Seems that Paypal Thailand haven't read it!?

I would also like to know about internal flight travel. - My (Thai) wife will be flying from Sukhothai to Bangkok soon. Will she need any test or certificate or anything upon check-in at Sukhothai airport? Thanks in advance.

Looking online on the Thai Post website to find out cost to send a smallish parcel abroad. I did the weight calculation and then you are presented with a long list of options on method to send. I looked at #17: Int’l Small Packet-Air as being a likely choice...but then I wondered what is the maximum parcel size allowed to be classed as 'Small Packet'. At what size does a 'Small Packet' become a 'Int’l Parcel-Air'? - I cannot find anywhere on that site that explains any dimensions. Does anyone here know of where this info might be available to read?

Re- Thai Airmail post...
I just got back from the Main Sukhothai Post Office (next to the river Yom). I wanted to send a small packet (a 7" vinyl record) to someone in Sweden. I was told "cannot" as Sweden, along with many other countries are on the new 'No Airmail' list. The P.O. guy said he could send it by sea mail but it may take 2 - 3 MONTHS!!! - I shall let my Swedish friend know the bad news!????

I have just watched the latest video on Youtube by Integrity Legal and their interpretation of the new rules re Health Insurance for Retirees/Marriage etc extensions seem to say that the mandatory health insurance will be necessary not only for O-A visa applications from Thai Embassies abroad, but also ALL the yearly extension stayers in Thailand. >>>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCQ-gH_JHrU

A retired farang on yearly extensions of stay is not allowed to work. Therefore they cannot apply for Permanent Residency (I believe). Does anyone understand the Thai government's thinking on this, as PR for retirees would give a wonderful 'peace of mind' feeling to see them through to the end of their days? Maybe not starting off at 50 years old but after living in the country for a few years with no 'blemishes' I think it would be a great idea (from an old retiree's point of view!). Anyone agree/disagree?

1. Does a farang with PR (Permanent Residency) still have to do the 90-day reporting at Immigration and the yearly extension? Or does the fact that having PR take you out of the hands of the Immigration police and into the hands of the ordinary police?
2. If you have your name entered into a yellow Tabien Ban (house Registration book) does that named person need to do the same 2 things as above? (90-day report+yearly extension).

I asked the original question because I live in Sukhothai and when enquiring at the local Tessaban what they required they wanted the following:
1. House Rental Agreement. (I do not own, but rent a house)
2. Marriage Certificate. (I am married to a Thai woman)
3. 4 x 2" photos.
4. Proof of previously working in Thailand. (I am on a 1 year retirement visa annual extension)
5. Passport.
All documents in English to be translated into Thai by the British Embassy in Bangkok and certified as true translation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also in Bangkok.
I am not sure what pages of my passport need to be translated - surely they won't need EVERY page where there is English written, ie: the first page with the "Her Britannic Majesty's Secretary of State..." blurb about letting the passport holder travel freely 'without let or hindrance' etc? When I lived in Chiang Mai, all document translations from English to Thai were done by a government certified translation service in Chiang Mai. So easy!

Reading through this thread about how dfferent Amphurs/Tessabans require differing documents for the application of a yellow Tabian Ban made me wonder, what are the LEGAL requirements set out by the governing body (government dept) for the issuance of said yellow book? I am presuming that there are such legal requirements and that each Amphur/Tessaban adds their own extra requirements to it! - Legal government requirements anyone?

Next year I will have had my third consecutive 1 year visa renewal and afterwards I would like to apply for Permanent Residence.
My one-year visa is 'Retirement' category (with enough money in a Thai bank).
Today I enquired at a visa service office (in Chiang Mai) whether they had a service for helping to prepare for PR, but to my surprise I was informed that I couldn't apply (in the future) for PR after a Retirement Visa! - They thought that I must first change my 'Retirement Visa' to a 'Marriage Visa'. Does anyone know if this is correct - or is this visa service office just not familiar with PR requirements?
Any thoughts/info much appreciated.

Hi all,
Now I am back in Thailand permanently I would like to buy a new printer to use with my PC. I used to use an EPSON Photoprint in the west and it gave excellent results. Any recommendations as to what I could consider? A4 Colour inkjet for primarily printing photos plus CD printing capabilities. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I have searched but cannot find anything relevant yet to these 2 questions...
Q.1. Scenario: Thai national (F) marries UK national (M) in Uk via the Thai Fiance visa route. Subsequently she goes back to Thailand on a visit. Her Thai passport and National ID card will still be in her maiden name. Would this pose any problem for her at immigration upon her return to the UK? or does she need to have any document changes made whilst in Thailand before her return to UK?
Q.2. Is a UK marriage between Thai and UK nationals recognised as legal in Thailand?
Thanks in advance for any help/clarification with these questions.

It was with this in mind that I asked my local MP whether I, as a British Citizen or European Community member, had the right to bring my wife into the UK to live with me.
The answer was a resounding...."Actually NO!"
I was told that I only have the right IF my wife passes the British Government's criteria for entry.
Doesn't it make you feel good knowing that the UK Government has the best interests of it's people at heart

Native English speaker currently in UK.
Lived 14+ years in Thailand can speak/read Thai, worked as English Proof Reader & English language magazine publisher (tourism related).
Familiar with magazine layout, graphics, print requirements etc.
Computer literate with experience of Adobe Photoshop & Adobe Pagemaker.
Looking for permanent position (Media, teaching, tourism etc) to be able to return to Thailand to be with my Thai wife. Any region considered.

Just a couple of 'tweaks' to the transliteration...........
สุรีรัฐ ชว่งกลาง
The second to last consonant and the final vowel of the forename (รั) ror reua, sara u - I would transliterate as ru (as in 'but')
The third to last consonant of the second name (ก) gor gai, should correctly be transliterated as the English letter 'g'
The first vowel (sara) of the first name is the short 'u' as in 'book', so I would say that it should be (transliterated) as
soo-ree-rut Chuangglang
Of course this is only my opinion, as Thai to English transliteration can be extremely frustrating - as even the 'official' version is incorrect!! (In my opinion)
A humerous aside highlighting the 'fluidity' of transliteration:
Englishman on telephone speaking to a Thai person ".....and how do you spell your name?"........(Thai person replies) "How would you like to spell it?"
I find Thai-English transliteration both fascinating and annoying!!!!!

I used my Paypal account on the 17th Dec when I received money into it, and then quickly transferred it to my Thai bank account. So, it seems they are not sticking to their 15th Dec closure edict? ......is it just me or are others still being able to use THEIR PP accounts?
