  1. I posted the following last week just prior to the topic being closed, and before anyone could respond. As I have some friends going up next week on a Van Trek to Chiang Mai, Mae Sai, [i know this is a Thailand Forum but request an ok to print the name of the city across from Mae Sai } Tachalek , I would appreicate if someone in the know would post a reply if they have an answer... Perhaps the poster who mentioned in the past few days having spoken with the head of Immigration at Mae Sai.

Something that may have been mentioned, and perhaps I missed it....

Every day from all over the Northern Region of Thailand tourists visiting Thailand take what is known as treks. Many of these go , by 12 passenger van, as example from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai and then on to Mae Sai, with I would guesstimate hundreds of tourists daily going over the bridge to {name deleted}.... Are each of the tourist trekers expected to carry 10,000 to 20,000 baht for reentry.....

If so I think we should look for the return of a modern day Jesse James or Ned Kelly....... for a 12 passenger van thats 120,000 -240,000 per van.... Buy a chain saw, drop a few trees over the highway ???????

[not our Thaivisa Ned Kelly of course ] but then maybe 200,000 for a few hours work ?????

  2. I'm at the point where I want to rip the IPTV dish off my roof, and would if the remaining holes wouldn't cause a leak....

I am interested in going ADSl as this seems to be a good shot..... It seems to be about 3-4 weeks since we have had a report from those who have adsl for their use. Would someone care to comment on how it seems to stack up vs. IPTV, IPSTAR, the TT&T Version Vs the TOT adsl or any new system that may be coming on.

I am just interested in good download speed as well as eliminating the 15 or so telephone reconnet fees daily, and of course consistancy Just something that works with as few problems as possible, Here in Chiang Mai of course

    Thanks

  3. Hello,

Got to know a BG who was previously working in Phuket, but had gone back home to buriram.

    .........

Care to offer any opinion or any tips to handle the family if i were to go?? Need some pointers. Thanks..

      Good day,

      Dermarko.. :D

    Opinion Requested.... opinion offered;

Remember the Karl Malden American Express commercial....... "Don't leave home without It "

Advice : forget that advert; leave it at home, also leave at home all but enough for return ticket and food.

When they say the family wants to meet you, it may translate to family would like to meet and visit with your money, only one of which will be making the return trip.

Keep your upper head in contact with reality and exercise caution

    :o

  4. Question : :o

If you have a Non Imm B, Multiple Entry, 1 year Visa and a Work Permit

Upon your entry into Thailand you receive a 90 Entry Stamp

You go to Labor and get a matching expiration date stamped in your work permit

Say you leave at the 30 day mark and return 10 days later, receiving a new 90 day expiration date

Should you go to labor immediately upon your return [1 - 2 days] to get a new

matching date in your work permit or is it acceptable to wait for the expiration date of of the original 90 days

I ask this as you may have to depart 2 or 3 more times within the original 90 days and if you re-register upon arrival at each return, then there would be WP and processing fees each time

    tnx

  5. Golly Wolfie touchie touchie

    The "Solution' wasn't a political issue..... This is ENTERTAAAAAINMENT. MUCH LESS THAN SOME OF THE REALITY TV PROGRAMS We are able to talk about corruption, use the F word, and many other derivations. but don't dare talk about real life in a joking friendly manner....... I suggest not taking the position too seriously;;;;;

    Play time man, joke ok

Now wheres that bear you wanted me to spit on ????

    Don't be so Germaine

  6. Nobody has suggested smoking with children around. You utter drop kick :o

Just saw this when re reading MaeJo Man ... Good one, I like it "You utter drop kick "

Puts me in mind of another good one, I thought. From the latest Zorro movie when the outlaw three fingers or whatever was his name, comes riding down the rails on the ore cart at the secret goldmine and calls the suave-o horses *ss Blue coat " You peckerwood" peckerwood ???? :D

  7. A Thought for solving the Iraqi problem and just maybe a lot of other problems around the world...

To paraphrase 'Mr. Spock' as he was slumped and at deaths door after being exposed to a massive dose of radiation "the sacrifice of the few for the good of the many"

With that thought in mind, I propose the following :

With agreement from both sides to save as many lives of the innocent as possible we assemble teams. Fete them, both sides, royally for a month and then they go to a Field Of Honor and fight as a team to the last man/woman/? [you insert pronoun, as this is Thailand He/She/It] standing..... [Think of the income from International TV Rights] Both sides had pre-agreed to abide by the rule of last standing is the winner. All other hostilities would cease and desist [at least until the next time somebody got pis;;d at some one else] then we would reenact the pagent again. In this way we would 1] rid ourselves of the trouble makers, 2] Giving all potential troublemakers a chance for a second thought if they wish to think they can gain enough through greed and/or power to suffer the possible consequences.

This way would put the decisionmakers xss on the line, not send others to the front lines to face the realities of war.

Present score [approx] West 1,000 Other Side 10,000.

The 1st Team as nominated by me :

    WEST

    1] George W. Bush

    2] Tony Blair

    3] John Howard

    4] Dick Cheny

    5] Donald Rumsfeld

    OTHER SIDE

    1] Saddam Hussein

    2] Osama Bin Laden

3] Moqtada Sadr [What ever happened to Bani Sadr, remember him ?]

    4] Al Zarqawi

5] Player to be named at future draw

If you think better teams could be created or these expanded to larger teams, please feel free to add your nominations. Please suggest those that you feel would be good/bad players for either side.

Lets change the saying 'Only the good die Young'

Thought for the day " If you want to make peace, talk to your enemies not your friends' who said it ?????

Hey at worst it may make for a good computer game and you can be on next years 'Forbes Richest 400 :D:D:o

  9. Not to condone, convict, of judge anyone by a news release as such.. I think we all would agree there are usually at least two sides to every story.....

If the story were to be proven true, I wouldn't wish to the this guy and out walking at night.... there are many more ways to solve his wife beating and wife infection difficulty, then are fully legal.....

Then there is the other side,,,,,,, ###### hath no fury like a woman scorned..... especially if its a Thai woman who just may wish to get back at her ex... I'm sure we've all heard this type story...... possibly she stepped out on the husband, and found herself HIV pos. What better to kill 2 birds with one stone....

  11. Personally, I'd rather carry an Amex black card.

Careful with your Amex-card. The number looks not real and the picture seems to be older than 6 months. Some merchants might not accept it :o

Plus the nose has a wrinkled crease in it and there is writing on the back....... and if it is a 1996 series forget it

  12. The Thailand Elite Card, a.k.a. the hub of advertising debt for Southeast Asia.  :o

    Trivia question for Ovenman :

Who was it that always said "hubba, hubba hubba"

Maybe not as quite as often as The O'man, but close

I can recall calling her from Bangkok to change flights of make new bookings rather that use local Bangkok staff . Well worth the few extra baht for the call

    thanks again

  14. And the primary requirement, 'MUST BE ABLE TO THINK'

and my reply was politely saying i think you are very rude.

… the old adage, “a chain is only as strong as its weakest link”, comes to mind . This is particularly true in business, be it operated by Thai or Western owners or management. In business dealings or personal life, the ability to “think” is not something of which to be ashamed nor frightened. One may really have to think very hard as to how the word “think” could be considered “rude” Some might have even said “the ability to think is what separates man form the lower form of animals.”

Let me relate an instance to you, and I’ll beg forgiveness for the length of this post and ask you to bear with me.

Approximately three weeks ago, I found I had a need to travel to Jakarta, so I proceeded to contact my travel agent with whom I had dealt most favorably for a number of years. We arranged a booking for a departure from Chiang Mai on the 18th and returning on the 22nd. Upon being told that the 20th of Sept was the national election day in Indonesia and offices there would be closed, created the need for a change of plans. The new travel plans were booked to depart on the 15th and return on the 18th. The CM to Bkk and return were E tickets, suggested to save me a few baht. I departed as scheduled. All well and good.

    Here some pertinent data :

    * Of course these E Tickets are non changeable non-refundable. .

    * Indonesia has Visa on Arrival of 3 days or 30 days. US$10. or $25. , respectively.

In Jakarta, getting an early start I found that I would, indeed be able to conclude my business the following day {with the slight offering of a little tea money} and be able to return to CM as planned. I proceeded to reconfirm my return flight only to be told that the booking for the return flight had been canceled. I knew [by “thinking”] that I hadn’t canceled, so I inquired by whom the cancellation had been made. While not being able to give me an individual name the airline was able to tell me “by the travel agency”

Well I don’t think it takes a great leap of intelligence to “think” that what happened was the manager of the travel agency , who I consider to be a strong thinker [heaven forbid, rude word] a strong link in the chain, and I consider a personal friend, proceeded to tell one of his/her staff to cancel the earlier made reservations, and the staff., weak link in the chain, was not able to fully think, thence proceeded to cancel all of the remaining bookings, including my return flight.

When confronted with this the manager [he/she] of course did the very same thing that any red blooded husband, whose wife has just caught him in bed with her best friend, would do ….. deny, deny, deny…

Of course the proverbial , kataut, kataut, kataut [sic]

    The ramifications:

    • A day later rebooking had to be arranged

    • $ An express fee for service was wasted

    • $ A one day overstay fee was imposed by Indo. Immigration

    • $ Because the original E Ticket schedule was not made 1700 Baht was blown

    • $ An extra hotel nights fee and meals was incurred

Can I live with it ??? Sure …. Just a mistake, sure, but one made by a weak link just not taking the time to ”think”

Yes this is but one instance, but it seems to happen repeatedly here by people who are told they must think, but are not taught how to think. Just saying you can think, because that is what is required by the general public, does not make it happen.

You know I sincerely believe that people who are confronted with completing a certain task, fall into two categories. One, those who look at the task, think it all the way through, and then complete it in the most professional manner, in the shortest amount of time. Group two, when faced with the same task, immediately try and create an excuse for why it is not completed and it is not their fault. No acceptance of responsibility. If you have a task to do, there is only one answer.... you do it... otherwise any reason is just an excuse for failure.

CTG, you “think” [dirty word, sorry] me rude for making a sincere request for a travel agent that has the ability to think I ask your forgiveness. :D I can assure you, I in no way meant it to be or seem to be rude.. I would consider it to be a breath of springtime to have some travel agent think things thru just as they would want if the booking were made for themselves… and this in all things that any person does in a hospitality or service related business’. I would think this would be good for all concerned.

And lets be fair now. :D I have read through some of your posting replies and, in my opinion, there have been some pretty sharp retorts from your fingertips and I’m sure some of the thinner skinned posters may consider some of your post replies a little rude. I would feel confident in thinking that CuteThaiGirl would be just that, cute and a polite girl. :o [at least I would hope so, but this is Thailand] Being, surely, much older than you I have read of some of these posters filing 2-3 posts everyday and just filling up the space with cyber-babble, just to see their name in print, and of course to run up their posting count for some reason. Experts, of course, in all threads. I’m sure you see them and read them too.

Again I say, I didn’t mean “think” to be taken rudely and beg your forgiveness…. :D

And just in closing “wouldn’t you think its unusual for someone your age go thru “men-a pauz”? sic :D:wub:-_-:(

  15. Cigarette Smoking ' Hot ' topic. Just a small pointed Pun.

Following is an article I had the oportunity to read on a recent trip to the US. It is reported from the US State of Virginia. Incidentially one of the largest tobacco and cigarette producing states in the US.

    Article

Caroline woman jailed for smoking around kids

Bowling Green woman jailed for smoking around kids.

    Date published: 8/12/2004

(AP) _ A Caroline County woman was sentenced to 10 days in jail Thursday for defying a court order not to smoke around her young children.

Tamara Silvius, 44, was immediately handcuffed and led out of the courtroom by deputies. Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Judge John H. Thomas said Silvius could post a $500 bond while she appeals his ruling.

Thomas last August barred Silvius from smoking around the children, now ages 8 and 10, as part of her shared custody arrangement with her ex-husband. She violated the order during a trip to South Carolina for Thanksgiving when she taped plastic trash bags inside her car to keep the smoke from reaching her children.

For that, Silvius was fined $500 and was given a 10-day suspended sentence on the condition she not do it again.

However, Silvius was back in court Thursday for violating the order a second time in June. Silvius, a pack-a-day smoker, claims the restriction violates her rights.

Caroline Circuit Judge Horace A. Revercomb III upheld the restriction in January, citing medical evidence of the effects of secondhand smoke on children. Silvius appealed the ruling to the Virginia Court of Appeals.

    Date published: 8/12/2004

Just goes to show you that the smoke/no Smoke issue is enough to split families and well as make members of this forum, somewhat shall we say aggressive.

I look forward to the day in the near future when I can read the headlines of the Bangkok Post saying 'PVTDICK GOES PUBIC' :o

The Bangkok Post has very bad proof readers you know

  16. Looking for good travel agent. Any recommendations....

By good I mean one that understands what a travel agent is supposed to do. Is connected, [not to public officials, but rather the internet] not a sub agent who has to call back with excuse to any inquiry. Can quote best fares and schedules... has some common sense not get you to an airport and get you out maybe 2 days later.. etc etc

And the primary requirement, 'MUST BE ABLE TO THINK'

Would appreciate recommendations based on your own personal experience with the agent not 2nd, 3rd hand heresay

Mucho Gracias or much grass too you

  17. This is amusing. I'd be more worried if the censorship was so clever that one would hardly notice and wonder by whom for which motives, as is happening in farangland.

Could you be referring to the 'Farenheit 9/11' flick?

or maybe the new actiom movie starring Brad Pitt as the young wombastic 'W' in 'Missing from Action' the story of a young king leading his country into battle from a Alabama Dentist Office. perhaps, maybe, might be, can almost prove it

Up for a 1/2 Academy Award, the back half :o

  18. During my lengthy observations in the "LOS". I have yet to see anything that is well run or well oraganised. Now is this my imagination or can someone please give me an example of anything that is?

My problems during the past 12 days :

    Electric Company

    Telephone Company

    Internet Service Provider [continous]

    Water Dept

The latest UBC, twice in 3 days

But talk about organization ..... has anyone ever known their billing departments to go down ???? Now that is something that works well in Thailand

I would say close to perfection :o

  19. ....But I'd much rather see a Hot Russian woman and a Sexy Thai girl go at it......Preferably catfighting in a big ring full of Jello....  :D

Ooooooowwwww I just love it when you talk dirty....

Just reading your post especially the part about the Hot Russian and Sexy Thai Catfight... just did it for me ..... Makes my mouth start to quiver ... Just too much ..... Reading word by word and thinking of the squiggles and the jiggles put me over the top.... could I dare hope for a Cherry Box .....

I just have to know..... where in Thailand can I find :o Jello
