I'm really surprised there is no enforcement though, it is very easy tea money for the authorities, sitting right there in front of them.  That's how it is in most countries; an easy source of regular income, just like speed cameras.

Because it means actually having to police... and that's out of the question for the majority in Thailand. That job's not about policing, it's about personal income.

  2. During my 4-6 month stays, I'll visit friends in Pattaya 2 or 3 times for a night out. I wouldn't even think of stepping out the door with less than ฿10k cash and my Wise card. No crumpet purchases... I'm very happy with Ms. Sabaidee!

A good night on the tiles is ฿15k easy, especially with today's exchange rate. So many tight-arses on AN it's astounding.

Not sure about that. With regards to Phimai. Rita's bar opposite the Clock Tower can get fairly lively on a Fri/Sat evening. This Clown doesn't frequent it.

Never go in there.... too many foreigners. Not many, but too many! 🤣🤣

I like IDA for the food, and the little hotpot place next door, also the nice little "steak" restauraunt a block before the bridge leading to Tesco. The place is a ghost town by 8:30pm most nights. Fine by me for the odd break as I have my own entertainment, but not for someone like him it would seem.

Buriram and Korat are places no expat seems to really want to live but they get brought there by their Thai wife. I'm sure there's a lot of really miserable sods there waiting out their end.

At least Buriram has a racetrack... what's Korat got, other than a Terminal 21? As for Phimai, there's b*&&er all there but a Tesco Lotus and an old Khmer temple. No wonder he was grumpy! LOL

The plank needs to move somewhere a little more lively. Phimai isn't for foreigners looking for a bawdy night on the tiles!

Course will have to be approved by the FIA, this includes all safety requirements.

Or they can run it at BRIC, which is certified for F1 use.

Buriram is not F1 certified, and would require considerable changes to meet the FIA requirements. Newin said right from the off, he never intended it to host F1, as it was never worth the investment.

Thailand will never host an F1 race.

Very shortsighted move and it will effectively discourage the exact socio economic groups the country wanted. The  option of a 60 day visa  with an option to extend another 30 days was ideal for snowbirds. It brought in older and wealthier people who did not want the hassle of a visa hassle. The people who were relying on this visa were the western visitors, particularly retirees and Nordics.

The  60 day visa is not the reason there are problems with  visitors. The overstayers will overstay on 30 day visas and the troublemakers will still make trouble. There is no link between the 60 day visas and illegal business operations. The illegal operations are carried out by long stay foreigners.

Alot of people on 60 day visas did not stay the full 60 days. Instead they were opting for 31-45 days and the 60 day option  made their lives easier.

The takeaway is that this is collective punishment because the Thais do not want to upset the Russians and Chinese.

At the very least, offer the 60 day visa through the electronic portal without the lengthy paperwork and documentation process.

Exactly this! I stay 4-6 months, depending on both the weather at home, and when I arrive in Thailand, and doing that with just a single death defying visa run was bliss.

I tend to spend £2-3k a month during my stay. I don't rob people, I don't beat people up, I don't set up rogue businesses, and don't help anyone else do those things. I do like to sit on the beaches and eat in restaurants a lot though.

    Numpties!

And the Thai mafia in the area, Ban Chang - Sattahip, have almost completely taken over Bolt. Whenever I order a Bolt and I see that the car is parked at Utapao, I cancel immediately. So should you, if you don't, you will be met with a message or phone call, asking for at least 500 Baht more than the official Bolt rate.

Ms. Sabaidee lives/works near KM10 (100m or so from the roundabout where you turn off for U-Tapao), and we find Bolt very hard to get, to the point where we've had multiple rides with the same drivers, and ended up taking their personal numbers. I've had a couple of occasions where Bolt drivers have messaged first trying to increase the price on the side. I just immediately cancel and hit the report button. I hope you do too!

Well then... More difficulties for Farangs in Thailand, immigration, tax burdens, toxic air, over tourism, sullen and sour locals, drunk tourists, road rage on dangerous roads, delivery scooters riding like bats out of hell. Remind me again why it's a nice place to retire?

It's hot and sunny 10 months of the year, and mangos are cheap! 🤣🤣🤣

The problem with yearly insurance is they often limit the length of a trip to some duration.

That might be as low as 60 days per trip, or even less depending on the policy.

If he extended his trip it would be easy to break that limit and not realise it unless he read the policy - most people don't appear to read the policy at all.

They just read '1 year insurance' and off they go....

No excuse. I've overstayed my insurance for the last 3 visits, and taken out additional cover each time. It's more expensive to take out cover while you're already away, and limited to specialist companies, but such is life.

Every "annual multi-trip" i can remember has been limited to 30 days per trip too, so if staying longer, you need different cover. It really isn't rocket science.

There's no excuse, and no sympathy, for being uninsured.
