  1. I know there are credit card readers using the gsm network, and I'm pretty sure I've seen them in Thailand (small antenna).

    This would be one example:

    http://www.merchantexpress.com/wireless_cr...rd_terminal.htm

The reader I have at our place needs a phoneline, just like most of them...

I'm not sure an on-line credit card gateway would work for you, don't think your customers would appreciate you asking card number, cvv, expiry date and their address :o

Thanks for that Monty, I have seen them too but not sure who/where sells them in the land of smiles.

  2. I have a restaurant here and I want to be able to accept credit card payements, both TOT and TT&T have told me that the exchange is full and that I have to wait until someone drops their number for me to get one.

So without a phone line I cant get a PDQ machine, is there any alternative to this:

Credit card payments through the internet (I have a Catnet wireless phone)

    Wireless machines

    Any other methods?

Is there somebody out there who has any experience on this subject matter or any advice for me?

    Kind thanks in advance

  3. Good morning I am looking to get hold of both a UV filter and also somehting to perform reverse osmosis on my "bore nahm".

Does anyone out there know where to get such things, any idea of cost, has anyone used one on their own well?

    Thanks In Advance :o

  4. I am not looking to start a thread but I am looking to sell a children's clothes shop in Thongsala, Koh Phangan, so if anyone is interested or knows of anybody looking for either a business opportunity or centrally located premises then please PM me.

The shop is glass fronted (without frame, modern) comes with aircon, sofa, racking, shelving, stock.

We have a genuine reason for wanting a sale, and that is we are expecting our second child and do not have the time to run this business as well as others. :

My apologies if this is in the wrong place, :o but I want to aim it at Phangan/Samui people.

Failing a sale of the shop we will be looking to offload all its contents, window, aircon etc.

The price is on application and negotiable.

    Many Thanks in advance

  5. Thanks for starting the thread sbk.

I am acting on instructions from our two cats and their surrogate mother on this.

Not sure what might come of it so perhaps being overwhelmed rather than under. Having some bbq pork on a spit and salads and stuff along with a glass of wine or a beer or soft drink, maybe a raffle or such (prizes would be useful). My aim is to see if we can raise as much PAC as is possible and perhaps if this works, do it on a regular, last Friday in the month basis.

I am kicking in the staff and premises and will provide everything else at cost. I just need everyone who make use of PAC or are friends of PAC to kick in a few baht and their time out for an evening of fun and frivolity. We had occasion to use PAC in the last weeks and paid a pittance in fees, I reckon about one tenth of what I would pay back in Aus. so this is payback. I have invited the girls from PAC to come and monitor the fund side of things.

Someone had a go at me and suggested that there are better causes I should be working for. Probably there are but we have spent 6 years in the field in third world countries and war zones doing just that, building schools and clinics and houses so this suits us quite nicely for now. For now they can do the other good things in case anyone feels compelled to offer the same suggestions.

Admirable work there Etherus, I hope people come out and support PAC generously they deserve it, and if we lose their services it would be a great loss to the island and a move in the wrong direction.

Maybe you could help others out in need too with such fund raising events?

Wont make it on friday as we will be working but I'll make sure Mrs Moon stops by and pledges on our behalf.

    :Moon:

  6. Hi Moonman1975,

I think that the link has explained everything i need to know or is there anything else that i might be missing?

    Kind rergards.

    Chris.

Many thanks Chris all the best to you to, a great month it will be. Yes good link that about covers everything, for our first child we held a white cloth behind her, so no hands could be seen, although it took along time for her to settle.

    Regards

  7. Thai kids are required by law to attend school. Not so farang kids. A friend of mine tried that for a few years with her children, attending Thai school by day, homeschooling weekends and afternoons in the Canadian curriculum. She gave up in the end and moved back to Canada as she felt that 1) it was too much for her kids and gave them no free time. 2) felt their English was not up to fluent standards (sounded ok to me but she said when they went back home to Canada it was obvious) and 3) wanted them to learn French as well and felt they were missing out on the other half of their heritage by staying here (she is French Canadian).

Does Koh Phangan have a significant enough population for such a school (I am assuming you are talking pre-school and kindergarten)? Most likely, but I doubt many people in Thong Nai Pan and Haadrin would be willing to drive their kids over every morning and pick them up every afternoon. The expat population on Koh P is pretty widespread.

As for wealthier Thais, most send their kids to Bangkok or the mainland somewhere to a prestigious well known school.

A good idea but not sure Koh P has the right market for it yet.

Some fair points. And judging by the overwhelming response to this thread :o I guess maybe not a great enough population, YET.

I am talking about high school initially, a private high school, but why not a "non stop shop" from pre to off to uni time, an alternative to the high school (Mathayom) (only one?) in Bantai.

My idea is to form some kind of non profit organisation to control and run the school (I am not looking for anyone to profit from this) and to apply for the necessary licences. Even if the school had just 30 students to start, teachers employed, facilities and maintaining a high standard from the school fees, and why not an overseas affiliation from a school. Phangan might not be ready, I agree, but it has to start somewhere, you must agree that KPN is changing as Samui did all those years ago and welcomed its first schools and so on and so forth and I bet at the time people said back then that Samui was not ready for it.

And would people drive their kids? A centrally located venue surely would put most places no more than 30 mins away, what about a school bus/s with dedicated pick up times/areas?

I don’t really want to send my little ones so far away from the nest, Bangkok, Phuket, Surat etc and feel that something should be available here.

I know in the past that our distinguished property company, KP Property has done some studies on this but I not know the outcome?

  8. Samui has an internationally accredited school? Which one?

As with the question mark, so that will be not then, I remember reading a year or so ago about, cambridge uk doing something on Samui, I take it, it did not happen then? But still that aside I think you will agree that over there they have alot more choice, due to established longer, demand and population size. :o

  9. At the present time I believe that Phangan does not yet have a privately run/owned school, but yet there are more and more half Thai/half rang kids around and also some wealthier Thais that would send their kids to such a school.

Samui, many years ahead in terms of development now has many schools that fit that bill right? also now an internationally accredited school? Whilst I believe Phangan is many many years away from this, I see no reason why one (the first one) cant be established by some of the expats here to provide this basic service.

Is there anyone out there who has any input on this? or would be interested in creating such venture?

At the moment I am thinking Thai pre-school followed by a Samui commute daily for my young ones (14 months & 6 months to go and counting down) I don’t think so.

For me personally I want to offer my children more than the Thai education system offers, and hopefully I can find like minded people out there who are willing to make something happen.

    Thanks In Advance

  10. just wondering if any one knows if there is a good place to board my 1 yr old poodle/ indoor dog. on koh samui and if there is such a service what I can expect to pay.

    cheers

We used to use a place called I & J Dog grooming near to Bangkok/Samui hospital and paid around 200 baht a day, although they have now moved to Lamai, a lovely Thai lady runs it her number was 0815368471 & 0878958928, not sure if changed or not we havent used them for a while. Best of luck

  11. 3 to 4 mins tops! 2 slices of your favorite bread in the toaster- turn on.

open a can of tuna chunks, throw in a bowl, mash it up.

add heaps of cracked pepper and a good squeeze of manao.

take the toast out, butter it and spoon the tuna straight from the bowl. EXCELLENT!!!! :o

    Foie gras on toast

  12. thrashed northampton 1-0 today

    bring on chesterfield wednesday

a big 3 points last night

    2 home games to come

    come on u reds

p.s yes i know i'm the only one on this thread but what the hel_l ?

Just so you know there is more than one City fan in Thailand. If we can win our other game in hand and scunthorpe who play forest today draw then we can close right in and create a gap between 2nd and 3rd. I really hope we go up this year its about time. Come on you reds!!

bring it on..1-0 @donny, with forest to play this saturday and scunthorpe two weeks after..i think....we will be playing west ham next season!!!!! :D

Ben01 & Martaway, what do you think the score will be on Saturday? :o

  13. It's very frustrating to watch.

    Where's the passion?

With Israel sitting deep, and beeing tough to break down, an injection of passion from midfield could have...

    :o

The passion seems to have died, whilst it may still live in Gerrard, England misses players such as Paul Scholes and Stuart Pearce to name two, players who fight for the cause and dont give up, IMO Defoe should have been brought on sooner to replace the lacklustre Johnson, as after coming on Defoe looked to have some bite in him.

  14. Out of interest , what TV channel did u see it on?

Solar Sports had Germany vs Czechoslovakia and Eurosport had Lichtenstein vs N Ireland.

    Thai had Ger/Cze on 3.

Doesn't sound like I missed much. I'll probably be dead before England do well again :D

Channel 7 had it on complete with English commentary, but alas no crowd/atmosphere sound? Most bizarre.

Nothing really was missed apart from England’s inability to beat a nation ranked 32 placed below them with a display of no confidence football.

Before the game McClaren, Terry and Lampard all talked great games, but when it came to it, it was more of the same from a team that has scored just 2 goals in the last 6 games, an incredible feat for the country that currently stands sixth in the Fifa world rankings and that has so many superstar players playing in top clubs.

The form of these great players just cannot be brought over to the big stage of international football, so maybe its time Mr McClaren should think very carefully before naming his next squad, as some of the boys who let us down in the world cup are still continuing to do it now.

Maybe Michael Owen will return one day to add to his tally of 36 goals, but will he be the player that he was? with other players injured too it is hard to see where the goals are going to come from.

But all is not lost, there are still 7 games to play four of which will be at the new home of football, the great Wembley stadium, but starting with tiny Andorra in Barcelona on Wednesday eve, if England are to turn a corner and start to live up to expectations then we must start with a convincing performance then, followed by a few tweaks to the squad, 6 more wins and onto 2008 finals, or no more goals and a replacement manager?? :o

  15. Any particular area you are interested in? Nightlife? Hotel amenities?

Wel i like to stay at a nice beach have som luxury and not to far from shopping

Nightlife is not on my aganda but good restaurants are

i suggest if you want a little comfort coming by plane would be a start then at the airport ask at the desk what they have normally anything you want coming over land is very traumatic and tiring if cost isnt important 40-50 pound for air is worth it if cost is important then take cheaper room you will still get good service and there are some good restaurants expensive and cheap next to almost every resort bungalow etc work out your budget punch in accomadation samui on your pc and see what it comes up with try asia rooms.com to start mainly bigger hotel though.

I have being to samui every year now and live in chiang rai

so i want to try koh phangan this year, i know about the costs

Why dont you try Sunset cove at www.phangansunset.com they are on the west coast, very nice boutique resort in forest and on beach, friendly staff, nice setting and very nice bungalows, open-air bathrooms.

  16. Does anybody know how old the boats from Seatran, Rajah, Lomprayah and Songserm are? how long is their life expectancy?

Some of them are starting (or already) to look quite bad and dangerous, is it only a matter of time before something unspeakable happens?

And what happend to Seatrans ferried coming from Don Sak to Koh Phangan, and more important, Samui to Phangan, it seems with cancellation of that service, Phangan took a step back in it's development, and it's connection with the outside world, why did that happen?
