I have been living in Thailand with my wife for 5 years.
We have 2 kids who already have British passports.
I have decided in this uncertain climate to return home to the UK
with my family, so i will need to apply for settlement visa for my wife.
When i first married 5 years ago my wife was refused a holiday visa twice,
however i appealed this in the UK and the visa was subsequently given.
My wife then came to the UK for a short holiday and left as per the visa.
I currently earn more than the minimum amount in the UK required.
I own a 4 bed house in the UK and have done so for the past 10 years.
Having had a bad experience with the refusal before my question is do you guys
think i can do the application myself without using an agent?
Can someone outline useful pointers for me if i do it myself.Common mistakes etc
What is a probable timescale of getting the visa?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I think your son has found the S and M bondage and torture place on 3rd by the Buffalo bar. Lots of role play goes on there...........
Actually thats my attempt at humour, if i was a betting man i would say you were trying to plug a business you have an interest in as its an interesting first post.

Makro have a big selection. They are on Sukhumvit rd.

Many years ago I loved that place. Last trip there, it was packed with tour buses. What a zoo.
I spend 6 months a year in this village and i have never seen a tour bus there.
Do you mean a mini van?

Just looked at Siam Beach resort and the views from the hillside bungalows @800/night inc b/fast look stunning.
Anyone have any comments on it, too remote, hill too steep for an ancient mariner :-)
Cheers
Edit to say Lonely Beach may be TOO lonely but only having been to White Sands I'm not sure...
I stay at Cliff Cottage Resort in Bangbao. It has modern nice clean aircon rooms and is in the beautiful quiet village of Bangbao which has the best
seafood restaurants on Koh Chang. The owner is a friend of mine. It might be too remote for some but the tranquility suits me fine. Also great for divers as it is the village most if not all of the diveboats leave from.

Thinking of going again beginning of June but independently. We live in Nakhon Sawan so we'd get a bus to MoChit then, preferably avoiding deathtrap mini buses how would we get to KC. Don't fancy driving.
you can get the bus from Ekamai to the ferry. First one leaves at 7.45am Nice comfortable big bus driven at sensible speeds.

Ok i just got back from VFS Bangkok. My application was accepted by VFS. I will now post my experience to see if it helps other people needing to make a first passport for their half Thai-half British child. I am married to my Thai wife so if you are not married maybe docs are different.
I firstly emailed VFS for an appointment. I gave them 4 possible days and i got the first day i asked for.
Here is the email address [email protected]
When you get the appointment here is where you need to go. It is 100m just down Sukhumvit soi 13 on the right. Go into the main entrance and
the lifts to the 28th floor are behing Tom n Toms coffee shop.
Tip .... do all your photocopying elsewhere as it is 5 times more expensive inside this building. Sukhumvit 13 is right by Nana BTS station.
Trendy Office Building, 28th Floor,
Sukhumvit Road Soi 13, Klongtoey Nua
Wattana, Bangkok, 10110, ThailandOk now you got the appointment you had better get your paperwork right.
This is what i needed and it was all accepted.
1. Full colour copies of every page of my British passport. Even the empty pages. All the way from front to back and in colour.
2. My full birth certificate from Uk. This must have your mum and dads names on it . Short version not allowed. They will check original and keep copy.
3. My childs Thai birth certificate and a translation and a photocopy of original.
4. My wifes passport and a photocopy of main page.
5.A signed copy of my wifes id card. I did not take this card as my wife needed it elsewhere.
6.My wifes birth certificate and a photocopy and a translation.
7.Our Tabien Baan housebook and photocopy and translation showing wifey and my child.(this acted as proof of address)
8. 2 photos of my child. Be careful to check the dimensions as there is a set requirement from chin to forehead. Be sure to check. 1 photo
must be certified by a suitable person. I used a friend who is retired civil servant Rules are here .https://www.gov.uk/photos-for-passports
9. Thai marriage certificate and the written part. This is 2 sheets. They need to be copied and translated.
10. I also needed my divorce certificate to prove a previous marraige was over. This also applies if your previous partner died. You need a death certificate. They checked the original and kept a copy.
Obviously you need to complete the application form and payment form.

I have highlighted red what you need translated. I used Keyvisa in Pattaya for translation. He charged me 500b per page and it was done sameday. Overall it was 8 pages. The boss there also checked my paperwork so i got some free advice. If you go to Bangkok allow time for your translations.
I went upstairs at the Trendy 20 mins before my time and got a ticket opposite the lifts and entered the big waiting room. It was well organised and i went directly to window 11 where passports were being dealt with. I was out of there by 3pm. The Thai lady who served me was polite and very helpful. She had a checklist and i just handed her each paperwork as she requested it and she filed all the paperwork she needed to keep and gave me back originals. She handed me a receipt and took my phone number and email and told me they would be in touch within a few weeks to collect the passport.
I hope this helps others in my situation.

I just sent an email explaining that i dont understand what documents i need on their chart. Could they confirm some details before i travel to Bangkok.
They re-sent me a link to their chart.
Being British sucks if you live in Thailand. We get no help whatsoever.

I just emailed for an appointment for next week. This is the reply i got.
I am amazed that an official British agency can give information like this. It appears a 5 year old child wrote it!!
Rule Brittania no more i am afraid!
plus to add insult to injury it is written in far cking American!!

Great info on this page thanks.
Two questions.....
Does the child have to go to the VFS office with the parent also?
Would a photocopy of the Thai mums birthcertificate suffice. She only has a copy, not original.
Thx

I recommend you marry her immediately. Get her pregnant quickly and let her have a pool birth. Skin whitening treatment should be easy to aquire to , and as for a business i recommend a MOOKatar type business. Guaranteed to be a winner in Yala. Stick a few concrete pigs pigs on the front gates to show everyone what you are selling. I forsee a long happy life in Thailand for you sir.

I would say the driver of the Jeep is probably at fault. Khao noi, khao talo, nernplubwan, etc all cross the railroad tracks and have a flashing red light which means stop. traveling along the railroad is flashing yellow meaning slow down and proceed with caution. Most people including farangs ignore the flashing red and continue like they are on the motorway.
Quite correct. Im amazed to see how most posters blame the Thai. It is quite simple on this road. The main road going along the railway line has right of way. This does not stop the people travelling up and down the sois not giving way. The driver of the jeep will be at fault for insurance reasons as he had a red flashing light. The fortuna only had a flashing amber light.

RIP. My sincere condoloences go to this guys family. As a father myself this story shakes me to the core.
Yes maybe the kid made bad decisions, but <deleted> give some sympathy and understanding and compassion for the family.
The family might even read this thread at one point.
Im sure if the posters here had dealt with the untimely death of a loved one they might find it better to keep their shitty comments
to themselves.

My mate has had a house over on SSCC for 10 years.
I stay there when i visit Pattaya and it's great. Lots of bars if thats your thing, and not many
tourists.
I will observe it is now getting very busy at peak times.

I met my wife by introduction from a mutual friend. My friend knew me a longtime and said that my now wife and me would be a great match. Years later she was right. I am very happy and my wife APPEARS to be very happy.
My assets in Thailand are split. 70% are in a company in my name only. 30% are in her name.
Do i trust my wife?...................Yes
Do i think my wife would scam me?....................No
Do i expect to be with my wife forever? ..............Yes
Do i love my wife?...........................Yes
Have i get <deleted> tatooed on my forehead and victim on my arms? .......................No
I choose to risk a small amount that would not harm me if we finished and my wife walked away. It keeps our relationship balanced. My wife knows that she cannot control me financially if we split or she chose to find another guy, or she tired of me.
Why risk it all when i dont need to?
I have seen many guys who think their wife was DIFFERENT get proven wrong and lost it all. Not a pretty site.

Maybe the OP is looking for his ex wife and now he has been told where to find her.
ps Just Joking!

There are 2 places i know.
The first is PF4by4. To get to this place, go on Pattaya Nua towards Sukumvit. At the lights on the Suk junction, turn right and it is about 5 shophouses down on the right. Has a steep drive/pavement outside. The owner is a good guy and they fit them whilst u wait.Ask for a discount and he will usually give 10%.
The second is Boy air and sound. This place is all the way down the Sukhumvit past the Colchann Hotel and past the toyota dealer, then you uturn and it is on the sukumvit coming back towards pattaya.Great service here also.
Google PF 4*4 or Boy sound and air.

The max 500 baht / max 20,000 baht ONLY is valid when you voluntary report your overstay either at at border/airport or the Immigration. If you get arrested, there are more severe consequences.
Nice red colour. My teacher used to use a red pen. Ok i got it now.
ps No sympathy with this guy.
