I am aware that it is possible for Thai immigration to transfer permission to stay stamps from an old passport to a new one. However, my friend has a slightly different issue.

The UK passport that hosts his current stay through 22 June (enabled by a Non-O) is badly damaged. The biometric data chip won't be readable when he presents it to immigration on departure or arrival at his destination. He does have another valid but not new UK passport. He is wondering if immigration will transfer the remaining +6 weeks permission to stay to this other used passport so that departure scans here and arrival scans at the destination will be OK. The biodata page and stamps in the damaged passport are all undamaged, just the 'machine-readable' functionality is gone. He says he plans on replacing the damaged passport when he visits the UK this summer.

Can the stamp be moved by his local immigration office, or is that done by airport immigration on departure from BKK?

I guess the other (easier?) option would be to apply for a replacement for the damaged one at VFS in Bangkok while he's still here, but that may depend on their turnaround time? I think four weeks is the best I have seen from a few months back.

    Thanks in advance.

I did it at chaengwatthana last year using a 10 months old (newer second passport) I also printed out the UK Embassy letter (think it was in both Thai and English language) which I downloaded from the UK embassy website, that stated they no longer issue transfer visa request letters. No problem at Immigration

If they flatrate parcels independant of what is inside, VAT will in future also have to be paid for books? Books are duty- and VAT free internationally.

Maybe they will just add a way of receiving the VAT refund on books, so if you receive a book, before you open the parcel you head to the Postal Customs Department fill out a claim form declaration of contents (false declaration fine equal to 4× total value of goods inside) and open the package in front of the officer and once books are verified, you are then able to reclaim the VAT youve paid in advance. Inconvenient but you're the one looking for a refund, can't be bothered with the hassle for such a small amount then just swallow the VAT element. Much like reverse of the Customs Department not currently collecting the VAT

About 25 years ago I developed a frozen shoulder on my left side. Luckily I had it treated by a surgeon, as second opinion after a doctor who had given two steroid injections recommended surgery. I second opinion, who was the shoulder surgeon for the US Olympic team, fixed it up magically with a steroid injection that looked like it was for a horse It was 35 mls. I commented on the size of the injection (a combination of steroid plus stent medium and long term anaesthetics) and he told me that the normal shoulder takes 25mls without discomfort and what he wanted to do was to build up pressure in the shoulder joint too break the adhesion apart. I walk out of his office pain free for the first time in about 3 years and never had even a twinge of pain for about 23 years.

Unfortunately I am also a diabetic and the frozen shoulder has recurred and I cannot now lay on my left side, and the pain wakes me up when I shift side when I am asleep. My previous experience with the frozen shoulder means that I really want to repeat the experience with the mega injection and now bother with any small 5 ml injections, manipulations, surgeries and the like.

I have read about hydo-dilation as a superior treatment to conventional treatments in diabetics on the Harvard Medial website. Does anyone have experience with treatments for frozen shoulder or any knowledge of where I can get a non surgical mega injection into my shoulder?

I'm following this with interest and want to share a personal experience.

Having had a frozen Left shoulder that lasted almost 18 months before it went away (no treatment), only to then find that my Right shoulder started to go the same way, having avoided medication first time around and after consulting with Google, I started taking Ibuprofen and it became ok, not perfect but not as bad as my previous experience of frozen shoulder. I continued taking Ibuprofen as more a preventative measure and did so for a number of years until I had a fairly bad accident.

Now that bad accident broke a few posterior ribs that left me with only one way to lay down in bed (couldn't sit back in a chair either) and that was I had to sleep propped by pillows with my body weight resting on my Right shoulder (and my right ear, but thats a different story), because the broken ribs were behind my Left shoulder blade they were non-aligned and for quite some time were also non-union, so it took a long time of sleeping on my bad Right shoulder until eventually my broken Left posterior ribs formed union (but still non-aligned) and I was no longer required to sleep on my bad Right shoulder. Now the positive side was that suddenly (or at some point in those 3+ months of my Right shoulder taking the pressure of my bodyweight) my Right shoulder no longer has any frozen shoulder symptoms.

I'm generally not superstitious, but I'm touching a bit of wood as I type this.

  4. Does anyone know if it's possible to bring the extension date forward by 3 months? Effectively reducing current extension by 3 months, but also making my annual extension date 3 months earlier going forward.

Unfortunately last year I switched passports and as I had a second passport, after my transfer was done because of the old passport expiry date being used for the last extension and the current extension date/month is now not so convenient for my overseas travel plans

I saw one guy many years ago in the airport he approached us asking for 500 baht, in the days when you had to pay as you leave, he was a farang

I also saw this maybe 25 years ago and I gave the guy ฿500

I understand how I myself many years ago used to get rid of every last bit of whatever local currency I had, just as I was leaving each country and that ฿500 departure tax was a surprise for me the first time I rocked up at the counter and handed over my ticket and the lady asked me for it, fortunately I still had it.

Anyway he asked for my details so he could send the money to me once he returned to his home, I told him to forget about it and consider it as a gift, but he said he wanted to refund me so I told him to donate the amount to a local charity instead.

I have a heat pump and believe me they are rubbish and i hate it but love my house.  If you live in a country with tempretures less than 7° forget it. I'm paying £120 a week for electric during winter and when below 1° the tempreture can't get above 19° in my house (I know this because i have a smart meter and a thamometer next to my chair). My house is only 11 years old so we'll insulated.  Plus, last year I had no heating for 3 months due to unskilled engineers and lack of parts available (it was a cold Christmas) lucky I have alternative heating like oil radiators,  paraffin heater and calor gas.  I live in Scotland.  Run a mile from heatpumps.....

Thanks for this very useful feedback. I've been dithering on whether to go for an oil boiler or the heat pump.

Its got to be new oil boiler

Hey there, I would like to know what documents are required to quit a boi job? Is the receipt or letter from the system enough to cancel my work permit and visa? Or do I need a letter of resignation?

I want to make sure that I'm not asked to sign any more than absolutely necessary to quit the job. A few shady things happening with this company lately.

If you're currently listed as a director, then send a recorded delivery (preferably signed for) letter, dated with date of writing & sending and clearly stating your resignation date, addressed to and sent to the board of directors at the official registered office address, this should suffice as far as the cessation of your dates of responsibility in that director role.

Consider before you write that letter to write yourself a letter (if authorised) under that company heading, giving a reason why you need to leave, (perhaps unsuitable changes in current market/financial situation) and that's the one to produce at One stop when handing back work permit and or at Immigration when looking for another visa.

But please consider seeking legal advice, as good legal advice is worth it's weight in gold.

You can only search for and find records added in the last seven days.

You can just refile at any time, you do not have to re-register. Then search for this new, latest record, once displayed click on the magnifying glass to generate, download and print/save a PDF.

Not in Qatar business class, it isn't!

    Top wines and champagnes.

But I have been bright eyed, clearheaded, down in weight, heavier in pocket, whilst off the drink.

Of course the free element is moot as the price of the good wines and champagnes are built into the ticket price. although I have to say its been a number of years since I was last being served Krug onboard, but I guess that's what happens when I drop to biz.

As alternative to their (Qatar) champagne, try their luxury non-alcoholic bubbly "So Jennie" but a tip, let your attendant know that's what you are going to be drinking so they ensure they have a good amount chilled, also ask your attendant to let the bartendee's know that when you go to the bar you will also be consuming that.

I'm someone that would happily go through ten different wines with a meal on Emirates, even if they were opening a new bottle of vintage port just for me

  11. I remember years ago during a visit to Toronto where one of the other guests that was staying with us was busy removing the designer labels and sewing Marks and Spencer labels in their place, labels she had brought over to Canada with her.

She was a high profile actress (appearing on BBC at least once, maybe twice a week) When I asked her why change labels, she explained that she almost always got stopped by UK Customs on her return to the UK and the M&S labels saved her a fortune.

  12. A couple of years ago I required the Rabies immunoglobulin shot, that's the expensive one,  and then the follow up shots, last one of which I delayed for 2 months because of a trip to UK and it being not so available over there, total cost was something close to ฿10,000

This article on Rabies in India should be helpful to anyone undecided on whether or not to go for the shots after being bitten

Ah, thanks - I'd forgotten about that, but was hoping for a grace period.

The reason I want to go close to the renewal date is for the Health Insurance timing. I usually go 3 or 4 weeks early, but the health insurance will start just before the expiration of the extension.

So if there was a problem and I couldn't go the day before the expiration expires, I was hoping I could go a bit later.

I hate having to do things on specific dates - you never know what might happen.

I renewed mine at CW last week 40 days before expiry date and the new day & month shown in my passport is kept the same,  1 year from expiry of last extension.

My health insurance company had issued me with the Covid cover letter, but I wasn't asked and therefore didn't show it.

No just testing if your information aboutt he police is false or not. I guess its false but want to confirm and report back on your (possible) misinformation. I think your a bit too paranoid.

As it just so happens, last night about 11.30pm I went out for a walk, I walked all over the place. 20 kilometres in total, I passed many police vehicles sitting or moving slowly with their flashing lights on, or they passed me. Amongst those vehicles was their Smart car the BMW, actually I see it almost every time I'm out walking late at night, neither that police vehicle or any other vehicle stopped me. I think the last one I passed was just after 2.30am, for clarification yes I'm in Bangkok

Maybe next time, but certainly not been stopped up until today.

Even for lots of miles ? If it had 30,000km on it I would probably agree, but 82,000km ?

I bought my diesel Fortuner new in 2005, finally in January 2021 it clocked up its first 100,000 km’s.

Only two things required replacement outside the standard Toyota dealership servicing was a new water pump fitted a few years ago. I think including the 10k service it was in for,  the bill came to just under Baht 9k. And in January this year it was Baht 15,000 as the front track control arms required replacing during the 100k service.

Outside the Toyota dealership I replaced

Battery every 3 Years (Baht 3,100) and tyres (Baht 18,000) at 5 years

Low running cost compared to my other vehicles
