Having moved back to Aussie due to Covid. I noticed Fortuners are not very popular here, even though they start at 1,200,000bht. Why, there are better SUV's available and Fortuners get mixed reviews.
I've always been a Fortuner fan and they remain the best looking SUV on the road in Thailand. But it's time Toyota delivered a car that performs as well as it looks. And get rid of those hard plastics in the interiors.
I'd look at current and future Toyota SUV's in other markets to get an idea of which direction they will take. The new Toyota RAV4 has grown and gets excellent reviews. Chinese are selling an SUV called HAVAL for 860,000bht. Looks great and gets very good reviews. I'm not a fan of Chinese, but there's no denying they are improving and moving forward.
The Chinese vehicles may be a great deal when compared to the Japanese, however any cost savings at the front end will quickly disappear at the resale end, of course this doesn't matter if the plan is to keep the vehicle for the next 20 years.

So what if the European Commission decide to block the delivery in June?
Anutin really does have a way with words doesn't he!
I think if he cares to go back and read the smallprint in the contract he's going to see the phrase, best efforts!

Don't forget there was a case against a not unrelated business for having sold something and then deciding to cancel and issue a refund. History has a habit of repeating itself..

What a misleading headline "Train crosses tracks where there is no barrier" Surely this should read "Bus crosses tracks where there is no barrier"

Waiting for the next announcement, "allegedly" New Army chief announces they now have the franchise for roadside checks, business will continue as before, but the uniform colour of those manning checkpoints will change.

Almost everyone likes a bargain, and the traditional natural floodplains were perfect for doing the job until someone allegedly sees an opportunity to make a $, the corrupt politician then spots an opportunity whenever a school or hospital is required to be built and then they manage to convince (by whatever means necessary) their fellow politicians to support the purchase of the land for said hospital or school, then housing is thrown up with everyone cashing in on selling the land around it. Then lo and behold the floodwater arrives, surprise not for the original seller of the land, as they knew historically that was not good land as occasionally it would be under water and may or may not get as good a harvest yield as the other much more valuable land that they didn't sell....

Unfortunately this is Chevrolet, and the story get's better.
I texted Chevrolet off their website I gave them the vin number, they said this car is not new, they said this car has done 1000km and is a demonstrator vehicle. The dealer just told me this car is new this car has done 8km so why then only 4 months warranty, and how has the warranty started if the vehicle has never been registered and there is no green book yet.
Dealer just sent me a photo of the mileage attached....8km
Someone and I think we know who is telling very big lies, looking round at the dealers they also have some more old stock there as dates on those were 2017 to 2019 year of manufacture.
And NOW for the grand finale............... Chevrolet Thailand just sent me this message, seems like they havent a clue what they are saying, the car is a 2017 but IS new and is NOT a demonstrator and DOES have a 3 year guarantee.
SOLD 499k baht Chevrolet LTZ Z71 top model X cab, old list price 799k reduced when chevvy decided to quit to 599k and this dealer will do it for 499k, thats great deal.
Chevrolet head office.CLUELESS
Sorry for the information that we told you previously. We are communicate with sale consultant staff name xxxxxx of xxxxx dealership again for information about a car VIN. MMM142LM0JH619963, Mr,xxxxx told us that’s this car is a newest car with 9 miles and you will get warranty 3 years or 100,000 kms. whatever comes first after delivery date.
If I were in the market for a pickup truck and was planning to keep if for a long time, I'd go for that deal. Might ask if they have new headlamps to finalise the deal, just so the ones on it at the moment don't fog up for an extra 3 years.

Checkpoint in Bangkrajao yesterday afternoon meant my solo ride and carefully avoiding people at traffic lights went by the wayside;
A. I had unwanted contact as social distancing wasn't being observed at the checkpoint.
B. They issued me with a surgical mask that they wanted me to wear, I had to write down my name in their log, they were also spraying the bicycle tyres. Non gloved hands handing out loose facemasks...
I'll avoid that loop next time I'm out.

Insurance talk on how to deny a claim!!
My medical insurance company e-mailed me a week or so ago, to advise that I'm covered, but not for quarantine if not infected or something like that. Text as follows;
"Dear.,........
“Everything will be alright.”
We know that you are worried about the Covid-19 outbreak in Thailand at the moment. So, we would like you to make sure that you stay vigilant and take crucial steps such as washing hands, staying away from crowded places, and wearing a mask. Here below you can find some information about the medical expense coverage for Covid-19 (or Coronavirus) infections.
For any claims received relating to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), under the medical benefits of the LUMA ASIA CARE INSURANCE policy , our insurers will pay for the treatment of anyone confirmed to have the virus and also the initial necessary treatment of someone with viral infection symptoms who subsequently was issued the all clear for the coronavirus.
Our insurers will pay all necessary treatment as would be covered for any other patient with a viral infection. All claims are based on LUMA ASIA CARE INSURANCE policy’s Terms & Conditions, exclusions, and details in the benefit table. Where an Insured Member is Quarantined with no symptoms or treatment, the insurers do not provide any benefits as this is not a medical claim."

There are other consequences to this. It is not a case of the end user needing to learn. GM had been planning this exit for some time yet did not advise customers sooner.
Customers who paid stick price before the exit now face a vast out of pocket expense if their car is damaged or written off. This is because Insurance now value the car paid at stick price at the new fire sale price.
I'm unsure how one could be 'educated' when the GM pullout was not known at the time of these purchases.
But, I'd be grateful if you could educate me on how to avoid these unique situations in future.
I think you'll find the insurance value of the vehicle is already stated on the policy, therefore that's the payout they will receive if the car is a write off. How the valuation by their insurance company is done at policy renewal date is another matter.
It should be noted that even if the brand new car was involved in a total loss case within 5 minutes of delivery, the value shown on that insurance policy will be the same value as given on the 364th day, therefore the payout will be considerably less than the new owner just paid 5 minutes earlier at the dealership.

Inconsistent story.
So many "business men" in Thailand. Wow. Being such a "business man", the Canadian should know that he can open a foreign currency account and avoid hiding his money under a pillow.
Good luck elsewhere. If they want to move each time they are victims of a theft, then there'll be not many countries left after a couple of years.
Is the opening a foreign currency account that easily done?
Asking as I used to have both but was told I had to decide either THB or STG, but I couldn't have both so I had to close one.

Sharing experience on both versions.
Having put the window tint on all except the front screen on my Fortuner from new and then six months later popping the rear screen and not bothering to have the film replaced. I've been driving that happily for 15 years, day or night, underground parking, no problems, but sometimes requiring to wear sunglasses during the day.
Having put no tint on E-class when new and driving it happily since first day, almost 14 years later I decided to get the tint done on all windows, oh joy upon joy what a difference when driving during the day including the coolness inside the car, but I seldom will use it after dark as it's just too difficult to see.
I think it's something like 30 + 50 and I only eventually went for the tint after all those years because I was traveling in a friend's car that was pitch dark from the outside, but like daylight inside and out journey went on into the night-time, so asked him for the brand (AA) and I went with that. But his car windows were double glazed so that perhaps also contributed to the coolness inside during the heat of the day.

The history of the term Rag and Bone Man that was used in the UK when I was young can be found here.

The BBC TV show, Steptoe and Son was a pretty good take off of the Rag'n Bone Man.

Yes, there were posts earlier in 2019 by folks who got new extensions of stay using the monthly foreign bank transfers method where they had less than 12 full months of transfers.
But as Joe noted above, we're now getting toward the end of 2019 and perhaps Immigration there figured that in the OP's case, the few he had done already just wasn't enough given the amount of time that's passed since the monthly foreign deposits option came into the picture.
Yes I managed to not have the correct record on transfers (I'd made the transfers into my current account) CW Immigration wouldn't accept them as proof, so I said okay I understand completely what is required going forward, but I couldn't do anything about the past records or lack of them, and that we needed a solution for the current predicament I was in. The IO lady asked if I had a deposit account and when I said yes, but no evidence of any transfers for a few year's, she then said if I could make just one transfer now for Baht 65k and then she would approve the application for my 1 year extension. The book with that single inbound transfer was shown the following week and all went well after that. This was in May 2019

And or setting up repeating monthly transfers from their bank outside of Thailand where ever it may be.
The exchange rate is something you will have to monitor month to month.
The problem with the Transferwise route is that the funds don't come from outside Thailand and they advis that before the transaction is done. I noticed on my bank statement last week where the source of inbound funds received via Transferwise as stated as coming from "DUMMY BRANCH"

When is the next model Fortuner due ?
in Thailand Motor Discussion
Posted
I bought my diesel Fortuner new in 2005, finally in January 2021 it clocked up its first 100,000 km’s.
Only two things required replacement outside the standard Toyota dealership servicing was a new water pump fitted a few years ago. I think including the 10k service it was in for, the bill came to just under Baht 9k. And in January this year it was Baht 15,000 as the front track control arms required replacing during the 100k service.
Outside the Toyota dealership I replaced
Battery every 3 Years (Baht 3,100) and tyres (Baht 18,000) at 5 years
Low running cost compared to my other vehicles
