55 in Thailand seems like 65-70 in Western Europe. Alcohol consumption and smoking, plus some diabetes/heart failures, kills men of in their late 50s or early 60s. I have a close friend at 52 that just got throat cancer due to excessive drinking (Lao Khao) and smoking. Sadly not a rare thing.

I am Norwegian and I cannot understand why anyone would retire in probably one of the most expensive places on earth! We have mostly people that moves OUT of the country for tax reasons and the very expensive food! I am one of those that is planning to leave due to the price level and "boring" people!
