Death is not the only poor outcome by the way.
I thought we were talking about Thailand here?
Even taking the worldwide rate of 2.1%, that's still more than 97% of cases (not total population) that do NOT die from it, and far less than the 8-10% of cases to death from influenza in any normal year (before the flu miraculously disappeared last year).
Remember also that the figures for covid are always stated from the start of the pandemic - one and a half years so far, rather than for a single "season".
Nobody is trying make light of those who have lost their lives to this virus, but for God's sake, lets start having some grown up debate about the effects on people's physical and mental health due to lockdowns etc

Yes, a certain number of people die every day, but you seem unfamiliar with the concept of excess mortality. That's the term for deaths over and above the average. Excess mortality is bad. Governments try to keep that number down. Bad governments fail to do so.
Most people think that keeping others alive is a good thing.
Where is the excess mortility? In the case of the UK, for 2020 according to the governments' ONS, the only time this happened was around the time they kicked all the old people out of hospitals into care homes and denied them any sort of medical care.

1) Number of People who have died because of Covid-19
2) Number of People in ICU because of Covid-19 (and available beds)
3) Number of serious Covid-19 cases (i.e. Number of people in hospitals requiring treatment for Covid-19)
Of even more significance are the number of people who have dies OF it, rather than simply WITH it. This is a fraction of the total numbers even in the west where the stats include anyone who has died of ANYTHING within 28 days of a positive test, including it seems, being hit by a bus or falling off a ladder. Must keep the people in constant fear.

Wonder if when I fly back to BKK today we will be told to isolate at home for 14 days when we land at DMK from Chiang Mai. We were going to anyway.
Or you can live your life normally, happy in the knowledge that you have a more than 99% chance of NOT dying from the virus.

Quite in the opposite, day by day they enjoy and increase their blatant cronyism even more and more.
They don't care, and they obviously feel very safe, very strong and very protected. This shows how strong the ties within the elite and the army really are.
Is there any stronger evidence needed to prove that everything they say about compromise and reconciliation is not more than a bad joke?
They feel safe because they ARE safe. Until a lot more people stand up to them in meaningful ways, they ain't going anywhere.

If you test more, you will find a lot more, although probably mild infections, posing minimal threat to anyone, including the one infected.
Of course if you test more you will get more cases. That's why we have the crazy situation in the UK and other countries in Europe now. The real question is why do you NEED to test people who are perfectly healthy and with no symptoms, using a test that it's inventor said should not be used to detect viruses which has a massive false-positive rate?
Even if there are cases in Thailand now which have gone untested, does it really matter? It's not like the health system is overwhelmed and people are dropping dead in the street, is it?
Even if you believe the official figures, covid only accounted for 2% of all deaths in the UK last week, 10 times less than the normal flu. Does this really justify destroying the livelihoods of millions and trashing the global economy?

Downloaded the app and submitted the registration and documents (Thai "owner" ID card + Tabien Baan) on Friday afternoon. Immediately got back an email saying that the application has been received and under consideration by immigration. Process would be completed within 7 working days. Yesterday (Monday) received email around lunchtime confirming application was approved and userID/password was attached.
Surprisingly simple for me! I am in Chiangmai.

No they really don't. Lots of other interesting stuff on the menu and nice people too.I am a 5 star trained chef with 36 years experience, I'm now a catering consultant, sounds like they may need help, just saying lol.
Totally agree. Delicious food, great price and really friendly owners. For me the best pizza in CM. Salads also really fresh with choice of tasty dressings. Totally recommended.

FYI A couple of days ago I received an email from Saxo Capital Markets informing me that as from next month they will be increasing the minimum commission for trading UK shares from GBP 8 to a whopping GBP 20 - an increase of 150%!!
When I complained about this they replied that their own costs for European shares had increased and they were simply passing it on. They also argued that they were still competitive compared with other brokers in the region.
Really annoyed as I only opened the account a couple of months ago on the basis of the commission being very reasonable. Time to move to Interactive Brokers?

Now I'm really pissed! I checked ASN ch. 157 this afternoon to make sure it was working so I could watch the Superbowl and it was. Sure enough when I go to watch it that channel is no longer working. I tried unpluging the box and let it sit 10 minutes then rebooted it, still nothing. Of all days for this to happen. Called 2 friends and they say theirs boxes are woking fine. For me at least 6 channels that I know of are not working though I suspect there are others as well. Thanks True....NOT!
I'm in Samui and I too have several channels not working. BBC Knowledge (18), BBC Lifestyle (62), BBC World News (89), Discovery HD (123), HBO HD (131). Maybe others. So Pakaty in Phuket, phukettrader in Chiang Mai and me in Samui all have to same problem. I guess the problem isn't in our houses.
Same here outside of Chiang Mai. True says they'll send a tech to the house within 3 days... great service yes?
True also told me 3 days. I said not good enough so they sent a crew within a couple of hours! One of them went up on the roof and repositioned the dish slightly and everything back to normal now, so I guess they must have repositioned the satellite or something.

Same here. No BBC, HBO HD, discovery and about 5 or 6 more. Working OK yesterday. Called True and they say problem in the house, which I do not believe seeing as other channels working fine. Have been told to call service engineer tomorrow morning to arrange a visit.
FYI, I am in Chiangmai.

I was in the same position as you and have just opened an account with Saxo Capital Markets in Singapore. Can trade in all major markets worldwide, shares, CFDs, Forex etc. Commission is GBP 8 for London market.

I did also look at them, but I suspect that I would have died of old age before completing their online application form. Give it a try if you don't believe me. Never seen such I complex and personally intrusive form! The application form also seems to imply that they won't let you trade anything unless you can prove that you have made at least 100 previous trades in every type of instrument that may interest you!try interactive brokers too, much cheaper than saxo, but more for experienced tradersVery strange you made this comment because i found interactive brokers online application amazingly quick and simple. It was a few years ago but as i recall it was about as smooth and easy as anyone could hope for. I think you must be doing something wrong....like not just clicking yes when they ask if you have experience....maybe making it harder than it needs to be.
From what I recall, there was not an option to simply click "yes". In any case, I did not like some of the other questions they ask now, as they are very intrusive and IMO go far beyond the normal money laundering stuff. Indeed, when you cancel the application, they ask you why and one of the choices is "application form too long"
-
Would it be possible for the OP and another poster who had the same experience to give the names of the brokers that cancelled their accounts?
And confirm that it was not just for the reason of having a foreign address, but specifically that the foreign address was Thailand? I have a brokerage account with Charles Stanley Direct in the UK, and before opening it (from Thailand) went to great lengths to ask about whether accounts with foreign addresses were likely to be closed in future, and for them to bring any potential problems to my attention, but they assured me that this wasn't likely.
Just wondering if I am likely to get a letter cancelling my account in the near future?
This would be a disaster, as I really need to be able to have a brokerage account - not to trade but just to hold my life savings in some simple tracker funds. So grateful for any information on the firms closing accounts.
My account was with Natwest Stockbrokers. Like you, I also went to great lengths to confirm that a Thailand address was not a problem. This was several years ago when I opened the account. At that time, once they confirmed that I was indeed a British national, all was OK. They have always been aware that I live in Thailand and my account address has always been in Thailand.
After speaking to them after they cancelled my account, it would seem that their rules have changed and that they will no longer deal with anyone with a Thailand address. As far as I know, the problem is Thailand - not simply the fact that I have a "foreign" address.

Kasikornbank also very good. All the facilities you might ever need and perfect English.
