St Stephens School, Khao Yai is the only true International School. Fees are over 6,000 GBP annually

^exactly. and as i said, the only one im aware of is in khao yai, nakorn ratchasima.

think we have a difference in opinion in what an international school is. new furniture and some foreign teachers doesnt sound particularly Harrow-ish.

correct me if im wrong but the only true "international" school in the whole of Issan is in Khao Yai and the fees there are probably not far off what you'd pay in the West. I like ubon a lot but i worry about the quality of educaton there

Jeffers? possibly the worst place ive ever eaten in in Thailand. all the staff are young, unfriendly and utterly incompetent. the worst carbonara ive ever had. christ, i could make it better than there.

get David Smyth's teach yourself Thai book; an absolute god-send. the first and still the best thai - english book ive read. has excellent sections on how to know which tone.

i can read and write fairly well in Thai but ive always been intrigued in regards to how you're supposed to know which silent consonants go on the end of a person's name etc.. for example, "yingluck" as consonants that are not pronounced. is there a system or are you just supposed to know for each name etc...??

wifey and i going back to thailand next week, mostly to see the in laws in ubon. but should we get bored we were thinking of going to khon kaen as weve never been before. but with a one year old - is there much to see and do there?

and it shows you're not a parent. im not rich by any stretch of the imagination but im going to make sure my daughter gets the best start in life .what she chooses to do later in life is down to her - as long as she's happy i will be happy. and y'all say its his kids so his decision. but i would liken it to the parent who decides what religious faith their child will follow in dogmatic fashion.

so Jezz you think it makes sense for a father to put his children at a massive disadvantage for the future? and if they decide village life is not for them, then what?

hi all. my folks and myself, wife and little 'un are visiting LOS next month but while the missus and I visit the in laws my folks are doing their own thing. They want to get the train from bkk-chiang mai, is it easy for non-thai speakers to purchase tickets? do you need to purchase in advance or does it not get that booked up?

looking forward to our first trip in ubon for two years and the first time the in - laws have met our daughter. shame that service apparently doesnt start till mid november otherwise we'd take them up on that offer
