  1. Guys, there was a question someone wrote that wasn't fully clarified. Or maybe if it was I really apologize.

What if someone who was denied entry holds 2 passports (Duel nationality).

In my case I have a Chilean passport and and Australian passport.

Will I be sent back to Chile if denied at the airport (if they don't let me fly to a neighboring country, like Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia)

or will I be allowed to fly to Australia as I also hold an Australian passport?? Or will I have to fly back to the country with the passport I was flying in from. Or is it just all up to immigration??

I always prefer to use the Chilean passport because it gives me 90 days visa excempt (bilateral agreement), but I haven't been back there since I was 1 year old. lol

    Many thanks!

Good question. That TV sure is a better value if you can use the days.

I've noticed it's cheap to fly to Vietnam too...

If I could squeeze 1 more visa excempt, (my second by border run to Cambodia this year) I would prefer that option. But I would hate to be denied entry at the border for staying here so long already on visa excempts. Looks like Laos for a tourist visa it will most probably be.

  3. Hello,  I am not sure If I should go to Laos and get a tourist visa or do a second border run to get another visa excempt? I flew here in April 2018 no visa, got a 90 days stamp (bilateral agreement passport) then I did 1 border run to Cambodia and got another 90 days.  I would like to stay until January 2019.

Because I have been here already for a while, will I have any problems with immigration if I do another border run to Cambodia ( to get another 90 days)?  Or should I just go to Laos to avoid problems?

    Many thanks to all

Normally, I would say the fourth visa exempt entry (when her previous stays add up to less than six weeks total, and with gaps in between) would be no problem at all. However, the questioning at Don Muang on her last entry indicates that the immigration official saw something that raised a flag in his mind. My guess is that there are further visa exempt entries in previous years (so a total of six or more since the middle of 2015). This triggers an alert to prompt the official to scrutinize the traveler more closely as a genuine tourist. If that was, indeed, the reason, I do not think there is anything to worry about. She may get the same questions on her next entry, but denied entry is very unlikely.  If the official's concern was the result of something else, it would be safer to enter with a tourist visa from a Thai consulate in China.

Would entering Thailand through a land border with out a visa, only a visa exempt be possible? Any change of refusal?

i'm staying with a long term girlfriend who owns her own house.  In my case they want her ownership papers,  copy of her ID front and back, and up to her to complete the TM30. she does not have to appear herself,  but does so, and it seems to help somewhat.

You should be OK with the rental agreement and a few rent receipts for good measure. Always bring along every bit of paper relating to your stay, then at least you can get a quick photocopy done, and not have to go through it all Again,  two days in a row because of one missing page.

Thanks for your prompt reply, so photo copies of lease agreement, owners I.D, my passport + visa pages, and receipts of rent/ bills of electricity.

Hope it's all good! And is it really ok if i report within 48 hours ? Doesn't have to be 24 hours? Thanks so much

If you use Jomtien best go and report yourself. Make sure you do it within 48hrs. And while you are there tell them you want to sell icecream on walking street and let us know if they say no problem. Joking. Better not say that.

I am doing a visa run tomorrow to Cambodia, and will report my address to Jomtiem immigration the next day.

What documents will I need? Will photocopies of the lease agreement, my passport and visa pages be enough? Many thanks

  7. You were unlucky. I have been doing back to back tourist visas and visa excempts for over 10 years. The last time i flew in to DMK was in April this year on visa exempt.  She was nice, no questions asked, stamped me and smiled. My passport is full of visa excempts and tourist visas. I might not be so lucky soon however,  getting paranoid from these reports,  so I will be going through land borders every time from now on just be safe.

i spent about 8 months a year in thailand from 2006 to 2017 (turned 50 and got the non imm O in 2017).  i was interviewed about five years into that period due to too many visa exempt entries (i never used a tourist visa).  i passed the interview, didn't have to show anything, but things have changed since then.  i didn't even know thaivisa.com existed until 2016 so i was blissfully unaware of any risks, etc..  after the interview, i used a combo of SETV's and visa exempts.  advice i would offer is (in no particular order):

avoid female immigration officers (don't get in their line)

pay for the premium lane service (1,200thb)

have at least 20,000thb on you

have a story for why you are here so often

have a flight out of thailand (even though you have a visa and don't need it to board at SGN)

make sure your social media accounts don't reflect any type of working activity in thailand

Were you ever asked to show them your facebook?

  9. I have been doing visa exempts, back to back with tourist visas for years (almost 12). The longest I stayed out was 1 year and a half, did the student visa for 6 months, then went back to doing tourist visas and visa exempts. Went home to Australia a few times for christmas holidays and came back after a few weeks. Still never questioned  at the airport, except at Poipet border once, (not questioned but told next time will get only 7 days). I personally think some I/O might just not be bothered to question you. I could be wrong. But do people get re-fused entry every day in Thailand for using back to back visa exempts? I do have two passports though, duel nationality and have been rotating with them a few times over the years, not that it made a difference. Just saying.

Probably unlucky, and maybe, as somebody mentioned, because of his skin color.

And from reports here it seems that at land borders it's generally easier than at the airport.

    My current Visa exempt history:

    1. (December 2015) air

    2. land

    3. land

    4. air

    5. air

    6. air

    7. air

    8. land

    9. land

    10. air

    11. land

    12. land

I do usually use close to the maximum number of 30 days and extended 4 of them by 30 days.

So out of about 28 months (since December 2015) i spent nearly 16 months in Thailand on Visa exempts, always for like 2-4 months at a time.

The only thing they ever said to me was that i reached the limit of 2 land border crossings for this year (and last year). Besides of this stamped straight in.

Is the O.P African American? Do these refusals happen every day?

  11. Kylep,

    - Did they search your phone with/without your consent?

    - Were you allowed to fly to any country you wanted or only allowed to fly to Japan where you came from? Could you have flown to Laos or Cambodia??

    - Did the airline pay for your ticket back to Japan or was that out of your own pocket? (I read that it is the airlines responsibility if refused entry??)

    - You showed them the money (20,000b atleast), + a flight ticket out within 30 days, did they give you a specific reason for denial?

    - What is your next move, as Joe stated, you won't be able to get a Tourist visa without residency in Japan?

Please keep us informed as many of us are in the same situation. Coming in on Visa Exempts every year and getting paranoid.

    Wish you the best.
