  1. Hi Gents,

    I have 3 ADSL connections

    CAT/CDMA Phuket

    new 3BB in Phuket (6Mb)

    True in Bangkok (6Mb)

However the new 3BB although on speedtest.net gives me upto 12Mb and youtube runs without pauses,

bitTorrents are now almost zero speed download.

Although they were extremely fast for the first few days and are obviously being throttled down.

Tested cos my CAT/CDMA is faster to download when I connect to that ie so not a seed/peer problem

When I connect to a private VPM I can get faster speeds again but the rest of my browsers suffers...

    Any decent workarounds ?

  2. Yup my Laptop has HDMI and VGA but I've read online they cannot be used simultaneously although my go try it on the weekend.

Sorry what do you mean by USB-VGA, are you talking straight cable or adapter ...and either way where can I buy one !

    Thanks....

    Sleesy

Not seen these in Thailand, at least not in the mainstream stores :(

A thought, does your lappie have VGA and HDMI? If it does chances are good that you'll be able to run two monitors anyway with no extra hardware :) Even if it doesn't adding one USB-VGA will give you 3 monitors (including the laptop screen) for extra real-estate.

  3. So I can have dual 23" screens on my Laptop

ie One of these : DIAMOND BVU195 USB Display Adapter (DVI and VGA with included DVI to VGA adapter)|GearByDiamond

Phuket would be handy but I'll be in Bangkok next week but don't fancy the idea of walking round 100 stores in Panthip Plaza...

  4. Hi Gents,

My Mrs has just been quoted by our regular Phuket Dentist...

9,000 thb for Molar root canal

    4,000 thb for the post

    10 to 16,000 for the crown !

Has anyone paid this much before ?

(Most I can find someone paying on Thaivisa is about 13,000thb)

    Regards

  5. Thanks for replies, 50% is interesting, just wonder if villas same as Condo law ....

As nobody else has answered I'll have a go.

In a condo when 50% of the development is sold the owners can form a committee to take over the running of the condo from the developer, collect and use maintenance fees etc.

I suspect this is possible in a housing development, but I'm not totally sure, maybe someone will come along with confirmation / refutation, otherwise ask a lawyer.

  6. Dear All,

So there's a Villa complex just a few years old in Phuket where myself and quite a few Farang and Thai's live happily

(about 100 houses in total, maybe 50% built/sold, the rest vacant plots) ...

BTW I really like our house (4 bed, 3 bath, 200 sq M on half a Rai)

Except there's a few things that we'd like changed ie the swimming pool cleaned/holes in manhole covers fixed, drains fixed, the roads swept etc etc etc

Trouble is the 2 Thai owners(s)now don't talk to each other, and don't even reply to joint letters from us ...

What ore our rights especially since we paid 3 years fees in advance when we bought the properties ...

    Best Regards

  7. Well thanks for the family advice !

Mmmm but we live Phuket 90% of the time, the 3 year old has 1 month hols and mum has exams in Bangkok ...

where I work part time so eventhough we have brought our nanny with us, the littlun prefers playing with kids to staying at home in the condo...

Mind you he'd spend a full week in the Toy section at Siam Paragon if he could...

    WHAT!!!!!

    Come on now.

U r in bkk for only one month and you want your very own kids to be with someone else and in a foreign country on top of every thing else???

    Have a heart!

Keep them close to you and take them with you and LET THEM LEARN everything FROM YOU IN A FOREIGN CULTURE.

If you are really that gungho on the idea, send them to my family.

By the end of the month, you'll have your kids back with at least bilingual or maybe even trilingual experiences!

Hope you would change your mind about not keeping your kids with you while in Thailand.

Unless of course you are here on assignment but then it is normally not the departmental policy to go on location with kids.

    Oh well.... whatever.

  8. Thanks ...

Yup sure do, Siam Paragon 4th floor.

Have 2 Brands that do Caesar size beds (that's the name for 8ft wide beds I've just found out) Sealy and OMazz.

For anyone that's interested cica 50,000thb and 3 weeks delivery.

    Cheers

The mattress dept in Siam Paragon department store can make custom sizes. Takes about 2 weeks.

  9. I wonder how old that design is but really to add one more field to a record of a transaction really isn't a big job....OK ok there will alot more than that but how much time and effort etc is lost trying to resolve credits/debits.

Think what it's like for LARGE companies.

Even my SCB online banking system stores the info of who you send money to ....then doesn't show it on the statement...

I love this question!! It really bugs me too.

From my understanding, its a hang-over from the design of the original banking systems which were all about savings passbooks and not much of a "checking account" culture. Check accounts create statements which have lots of room to display transaction info; saving passbooks have no room to print anything, so all the good transaction data gets chopped off somewhere along the way. Now in the days of internet banking it would be good to see this info presented. To do this requires massive re-configuring in the back end and transaction systems.

  10. Well I used the builder "Khun David" as recommended by one of the gents on the forum,

turned out very good indeed. (Trendy Condo Suk Soi 13)

I'd recommend him to others and I don't do that OFTEN in LOS ...

If you need details, PM me ...

    Regards

    Sleesy

Thanks Gents for the PM recommendations....

  11. I have bought 2 x 8ft ones in Thailand before, once from Omazz in Bangkok with bed 4 years ago.

And one in Phuket, just the mattress alone 3 years ago...

Had bed custom made (and sheets)...

That's a non-standard width. You would be hard pushed to find such a thing anywhere, let alone LOS. However, this being Thailand, there's a better chance of a custom-made solution.

The widest mattresses I have come across are in the bigger than King-size beds at the Novotel Suvarnabhumi airport. Unless these oversized mattresses were imported, they may have been locally manufactured. I would be interested in finding a custom mattress maker as I am 6'4" and even a California King leaves little room for the wife! Getting a custom made bed frame to fit would be the easy part.

  12. Dear All,

I will be in Bangkok for 2 days next week and need to order an 8ft wide mattress, bed also if possible.

Gonna be really busy so don't have much time...

I tried Index at MBK, got a standard "cannot"...

Staying Sukhumvit so somewhere centrally located would be useful....

    Thanks in advance,

    Regards,

    Sleesy.

  13. Thanks for the info, I know nothing of this new company, I only heard the name when the wife informed me she had renewed !

Thailand has a variety of insurance companies. Some good and some not so good.

The majority of reputable insurance companies will not continue a first class insurance policy on vehicles older than 7 years. This is standard operating procedure; it is not an indication that they don't want your business (you could have stayed with Navakij, but you would have to downgrade your cover). As your vehicle gets older, you have been forced to move your insurance to alternate insurance companies that offer first class cover for older vehicles. Be aware that not all insurance companies have spotless records when it comes to paying claims. Other than the premium and benefits indicated on the policy, do you know anything about this company? I have no experience with this company so I cannot help you.

  14. post-12220-071615600 1280110762_thumb.jpNot really a discussion topic, just for info, surprised me a tad and not alot in Thailand surprises me anymore ....

I've been with Nayakij Insurance on my Honda CRV (which is 6-7 years old) since I bought the car.

Only claimed once which cost about 15 to 20,000thb 4 years ago. I've been insured with them 5-6 years.

I went to renew the policy, they wouldn't cos they said the car was too old !

The CRV has been superb, I maintain it as per handbook at Honda and only once has anything ever gone wrong, something to do with the aircon that cost about 3000thb to fix.

I renewed at LMG Insurance as recommended by someone in the Navakij Phuket office.

Picture of said old banger attached !

  15. "Overnight in KL".

KL suburban / city area is quite a drive from the airport, about one hour to the outer suburbs. At peak hour am/pm from the suburbs into the city is a nightmare.

Hotels in the outer suburbs tend to be fairly expensive. One that my company used many times was the Hilton at Petaling Jaya (outer suburb). About three years ago is was aroung US$150- a night. Inner city (not advisable because of traffic jams / unpredictability) a lot more expensive.

Some quick hotel options close to KL International Airport:

    - Concord Hotel, right at the Airport, 5 minutes walk - approx 2,100Baht per night

    - KLIA Hotel, right at the airport, 5 mnutes walk - approx. 5,308Baht per night (highly overrated hotel)

    - Sepang hotel, about 7 kilometres from the airport, 1,580Baht per night. Tranport (taxi) from the airport to Sepang would not be a problem however I would check before booking whether there are local taxis or other transport options to get back to the hotel. If I recall correctly, Sepang is a fairly small rural town.

All of the above gleaned from a very quick google.

The simple hotel solution is to fly into the LCCT the night before, or take the shuttle bus from the "regular" terminal to the LCCT, then stay at the Tune Hotel. Usually costs under 100 MR for a single room. Then just walk to the LCCT (<100 meters) for the Air Asia X flight.

Or fly via Bangkok without having to overnight somewhere ....

  16. Two hour time gap is chancy. Probably work out OK but about 30% chance of buggerup. Better take earlier flight to KL.

Thanks, does sounds chancy, the AirAsia X to UK leaves KL 10.30am with first AirAsia flight arriving 8.30am so no choice there will have to check other airlines,

    non-budget don't fly earlier,

will have to look at budget ...

Nope they dont either so I guess the answer is No can do from Phuket unless you overnight in KL

  17. Hi All,

Flying on my own back to UK in August...

Just wondered if anyone has done it from Phuket/BKK via KL on Air Asia X Premium Flatbed...

Did u make it ...cos there's only 2 hours at KL between flights (if from Phujet) and I've heard you have to clear customs, pick up bags, check back in etc.

And did you slip off the end of the flat bed ? Or was it OK ?

Ps It's only 520GBP single so maybe worth the Premium budget route to try once ...

    Any other tips ...?

    Cheers
