  1. bangkokeddy, it seems to me that your view is that there should be no borders and people should be free to move about the world whenever they want.

An open border policy for you is it?

I think he believes that Australians are totally against immigration which could not be further from the truth. Australia welcomes thousands of immigrants from every corner of the globe every year. People who go through the normal legal channels with the proper paperwork and identification. Those in detention sneek in who no identification or paperwork they could be John Smith or Osama Bin Laden who is to know. Immigration takes time it took 12 months for my thai wife and it takes longer if authorities have absolutely no idea who you are or what you are. If they are going to act like uncivilized violent monkeys then they stamp thier own application "Not Accepted."

  2. They are from Afganistan. Was reported in Australian media. Some were transfered from Christmas Island after the fires and riots there. These people have now relinquished any rights to stay in Australia. They came ilegaly trying to queue jump and then commit criminal acts whilst here. Should be towed back out to sea and sunk if they tried to re enter Australian waters. Australia has enough criminals and don't need to import boat loads of them.

Wasn't being a criminal once the ticket to get to Australia? :whistling:

Btw. How do the Anglo-australians behave in Afghanistan?

Yes it was. The same as it was a ticket to the U.S (More transported to the US than Aust) and many other places but then they came in legally.

As for Anglo-Australians behaving in Afaganistan I don't know as I haven't been there to see them. I guess they would behave the same as Sudanese-Australians, Vietbamese-Australians, Thai-Australians, Turkish-Australians or Aussies of any other decent. I really don't think there are to many aussie tourists heading overthere anyway. If you are refering to Aussies seeking Asylum in Afaganistan then I don't think there are to many of them either. I will have to do some research on that.

  3. Pointing a finger at Thailand does not distract from the fact that a supposedly developed country that touts freedom and equality does not walk the walk.

It is not just say Americans, French or Aussies in thier repective countries that are exploiting Thais. Thais residing overseas do exactly the same to thier own. I have a close friend who is studying English in Melbourne. She found a job working in a Thai restuarant on her own after canvassing a number in the CBD. She works 8 hours per day 7 days a week for (56 hrs) $6.00 per hour cash in hand, ($336 per week) no sick leave, annual leave, weekend, public holiday, overtime penalties or superanuation contributions. An ilegal activity on behalf of the Thai owners.

The federal minimum wage (Aust) is currently $15.00 per hour or $569.90 per 38 hour week $27,355.20 annual (before tax). Casual employees covered by the national minimum wage also get at least a 21 per cent casual loading. An employer must not contravene a term of a modern award or a national minimum wage order. Suspected contraventions will be investigated and enforced by the Fair Work Ombudsman. A contravention of a term of a modern award or a national minimum wage order may result in penalties of up to $6,600 for an individual and $33,000 for a corporation.

On average, the minimum wage Thailand 2011, has now increased by nearly 7 percent, bringing the national average to 176.3 baht (app $5.30 AUD) per day.

(Source: The Thailand Board of Investment's Investment Review publication)

In relation to my friend and the other 3 thai students who work for the same person thier Thai employer probably thinks hey I'm Thai and your Thai and I am paying you more than the average Thai wage. If my friend was not staying with her sister and my aussie mate husband she could not simply survive on this in Australia. Her employer probably thinks what are the authorities going to do to me if I get caught exploiting my workers, give me a $6,600 fine? still well in front. I guess you can take the Thai out of Thailand but not the thai corruption and ways of doing things out of the Thai.

What my friend also doesn't understand is that if she is earning an income in Australia she is required by law to declare it and if she gets caught could also be prosecuted.

And she will most likely also be deported and blacklisted.

Very true, the girl would wear the brunt of it whilst the employer cops a $6,000 fine which he will make up in one day.

  4. If you don't let me live with you in your house at your expense I'm going to vandalise your property until you agree? Is that about it?

Sooooo true. It is like someone kicking in the front door of your house and just wandering in. demand that you and the family get of the sofa to make room for them. Send you off to work each day to support them whilst they lounge around the house all day, raid your fridge and drink all your beers. Then they complain that you are late home to make dinner and massage thier smelly feet.

  5. Read the article closely. Do you see any mention of where the detainees come from? Are they Angry Americans? Silly Swedes? Saucy Spaniards? We'll never know, as political correctness and privacy laws discourage country of origin statements..

They are from Afganistan. Was reported in Australian media. Some were transfered from Christmas Island after the fires and riots there. 6. BANGKOK, 18 April 2011 (NNT) – The recent news report regarding a group of half-naked young women splashing water on Silom Road in Bangkok reflects a deteriorating Thai society, according to a recent survey by Assumption University Research Center (ABAC Poll).

The survey was conducted with 1,134 respondents aged more than 18 years old in Bangkok and vicinities from 16 to 17 April 2011. The respondents were asked for their opinion about a group of young women enjoying Songkran in Silom with bare breasts.

94.3% of the respondents said they saw the news report, of whom 91.8% indicated that the Thai society had been deteriorating for a long time.

    ABAC_Poll.jpg

74.9% of the respondents said adults in the society had failed to provide good examples for young people while 71.7% pointed out that those young women misbehaved by themselves. 56.2% believed the criticized ladies had such a foul behaviour ever since they were in their families.

87.9% of the respondents expressed concerns over the future generation of the Thai society. 89.6% agreed that punishment for obscenity offenders should be harsher while 88.7% supported the same move for pornography distributors.

On the case of Silom girls, 83.7% of the respondents suggested that related authorities should be punished for allowing the scene to happen while 82.5% thought local administrative authorities responsible for the district where the incident took place should be punished too.

  7. UPDATE:

Porsche driver who decapitated 17 yr old girl turned himself in; he apologized to her family and said he didn't see her cross the road /TANN

I guess then it will be in tomorrows papers?

The high-speed hit had brutally cut the gir's body in two. The driver abandoned the car in front of a construction site in Om Kret, Pak Kret, Nonthaburi, where a witness confirmed that the tall, long hair murderer called a cab and fled the area on Friday. The investigation team had gathered finger prints on the steering wheel and other evidence which indicated 58 year-old Supachai Taksintwesurb as the main suspect.

Pol. Lt. Col. Bancha suggested the murderer was not the owner of the car but a family member. The suspect had fled and was not present at the site, leaving the authorities no choice but to issue an arrest warrant for the driver.

I think he gave himself up because the BIB were stumbling around like fools chasing thier own tales. Stolen car fleeing, young man, old man, son of owner, not related to family, another family member. the police stories kept changing indicating 100% that they had absolutely no idea what they were doing or where to even start the investigation.

  8. Yes I'm well aware of that. Perhaps we should kill Julian Assange because some US 'celebrities' have called for it.

So what is your view on the burning of the Koran, do you agree with it or not?

I certainly don't agree with burning the Koran but I certainly do agree with having an open discussion as to what may have motivated this action without taking the PC expedient of just dismissing it as an isolated act of a crackpot.

It is quite disturbing that muslims worship Hitler and his ways as depicted here. How they believe murder and mayhem is a normal natural way of life. Islam is not a religion it is a cult.

  9. The police have now announced the car is registered to 58-year-old Supachai Thaksinthaweesup (ศุภชัย ทักษิณทวีทรัพย์) of 5/61 Baromrachachonanee Road, Arunamarin, Bangkok Noi but they don't know who was driving. They have also announced negotiations between the relatives of the killed girl and the owner of the vehicle will take place today.

So I guess no one of any real importance in Thailand then or they would not release the name.

What does negotiations mean in Thai? A few baht change hands and the file is closed? Offender free to committ the offence again? Please tell me this is not true.

  11. Police, rescue volunteers and reporters inspect a luxury Porsche that was abandoned on the Pathum Thani-Bang Bua Thong Road Friday.

The front passenger seat had the upper body of a 17-year-old Laotian girl on it.

The girl lower body was found at a spot 10 kilometres away.

Police believe the car hit her and cut her body in half.

The driver was seen jumping into a taxi after parking his luxury vehicle.

This proves that thai police have absolutely no investigative skills what so ever. This location is a secondary crime scene and should have been immeadiately isolated from everyone except investigators. Just one of these people to touch it mildly could destroy any prosecution. Isolate and contain a scene is basically day one / week one on any police course.

This sort of thing happens at all major incidents in Thailand. Every baker butcher and candle stick maker will turn up for a gander and police don't really seem to care. I think they sell tickets.

  12. 20% reduction in 10 weeks. With this achievement they can wipe out crime all together in 12 months. I am sure there are a lot of western police forces around the world who could benifit from the elite Thai Police. Thier crime prevention strategies and investigation skills seem to be equal to none. Thai police should be instructing in police academies around the world. I do not believe this story. Are they refering to crime across the board or a particular crime. If it was one set of offences then it would be believable.

Melbourne, Australia was having a huge problem with street offences (Drunkeness, property damage and assaults) in the night club area generally on Thur, Fri and Sat nights. We started running operations on these nights saturating the streets with roving police. (Zero Tollerance) The level of drunkeness did not change but assaults and damage offences declined dramitically. Those full of piss and bad manners were locked up before they could cause any serious trouble. Street offences in this particular area declined by 70% but this did not impact in the overall crime stats as it was only targeting certain offences in a certain area of the city.

I was just wondering if this is what they did in Bangkok but then use the stats in a misleading way..

    ....

You might be right....... Oh don't forget they have joined forces with the chicks from 7 Eleven to fight crime. Maybe the 7 Eleven staff are doing a better job than the BIB ever did.

"The Royal Thai Police have joined hands with 7-Eleven to roll out a program in which tourists can report emergency incidents to Police via participating 7-Eleven branches in popular tourist areas."

  13. Good news, which will be quickly dismissed as an aberration, because Thailand's universities are all crap - according to the experts on TV.

"however, the vaccine has so far been proven effective in mice, and has yet to be tested on human" How can an education system so flawed produce a result like this. Wonder who wrote the press release

Simply because an international drug company, as part of its established and ongoing longterm research, has taken its running program with all the goalposts already in place, to a Thai university (amongst two dozen others across the world.) It has provided them with money, materials and equipment and given them instructions on how to proceed. The Thai university has not 'produced' the result - although it may be true to say that the result was 'produced' at the Thai university!

Similar programs are producing successful results at Indian universities but I haven't had yet my attention drawn to headlines that India is somehow now leading the world in the battle against dengue fever!

    R

The exact same company is working with scientists in an Australian University also in Perth. However the Australian scientists have moved on from mice and have already trialed the drug on living humans. Thailand is still trailing behind. Maybe they are still trying to read the instruction booklet the drug company provided to them with the kit.:D

  14. The criminal actions of the Iranian government to suppress protests would be one thing.

American propaganda. The US has been installing governments in places like the middle East, Africa, Asian and even thier allies for thier own personal gain and when these governments don't tow the US line then they are removed even by force and a new pro US government is established. This has been happening for decades. The US are the criminals not Iran. The Middle East is devolping and not to the US plan so the US is now scared. Isreal is the last US state in the East and Isreal will fall when the arab Muslim east move. Isreal now stand alone surrounded by many. The US were once a power but are now a crumbling mess. Other countries like China own more US dollars than even the US. America is now yesterday's news. I would hate to see war and death but I think Isreal when confronted lay down arms admit defeat along with the US and let peace previal. America you are stretched, can't afford another war and your allies are fed up dying for your politics. America you are spent and gone forever. The Vikings, the Greeks The Romans and the Americans. All Dynasties come to an end.

  15. Such a shame.

Hua Hin is full of old men who pick women that anybody else wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

I suppose it's just about being streetwise. Old men maybe good at organizing there finances and pension funds but on judging character their not so hot.

If i only had a £ for the number of times i have seen some old guy walk in to a bar with a wife or girlfriend who i wouldn't trust to come back with the change from the 7/11.

It doesn't help matters the way older guys talk to women and the disinterest in the language. Every kurt word and tongue lashing is another bullet loaded in the gun.

If any old guy really thinks that a 30 or 40 something women really wants him then he needs his head examining.

    Rent don't buy.

I was talking to my wife last night about this and she told me the story of a family from her old village in Chianat. The family have 3 daughters the oldest 22, 21 and 17. When the oldest was 18 the parents encouraged her to find a farang to marry and assisted her in the search via internet. They eventually found her a 78 yr old from Germany and arranged the marriage the guy passed away a couple of yrs later apparently from natural causes. He was from what I have been told quite financial and left her and her family well off. The girl within 6 months was married to another elderly farang. Her 21 yr old sister is also married to a farang in his 70's and the parents want to marry off the final daughter to a farang also. This to me seems to be a business for them and nothing to do with love. The commodity being elderly farangs in thier twylight years. Apparently other families in the village also want to follow in the footsteps of this family as they can see the wealth they are accumalating.

I am not saying every Thai is like this before people jump on my back accusing me of throwing a blanket across all thais. I am talking about one family out of millions. Oh and my wife is 3 years younger than me before anyone asks and we met in Melbourne when she was doing her masters in accounting and we dated for 3 yrs before getting married.

of course - an immoral business at that. there should be a law against any man over 60 marrying a Thai girl.

There should be a law to stop farangs living with a girl more than 30 years age difference, maybe less

I normally just read thai visa but felt I will respond to this. You say there should be a law to stop farangs living with a girl more than 30 years age difference. Why should it be? I know of one young thai lady (early 30's) very attractive and has a heart of gold. Her family are the same. She has been married three(3) times to much older men 40 to 50+ years. still married to the 3rd who is in his 80's and very frail. (others passed away) She gets great support from her family and her brother has even decided to live with them to help her. She tells me that Budha will reward her in a later life for helping older farang men who are alone and have no one to love them. She says she has loved and still loves them all with all her heart. Yes there re some sincre loving thai people who will support and look after the elderly farangs.
