  1. In America (my country) companies like to say they do not discriminate against gender, age, physical looks and... and ... when hiring. -But a good looking 25 year old will get a job over a aging 40 year old for a position -- not only because of age, but because the other person is cheaper to hire. Look at Fox News, do you ever see a member of their news team that is ugly and over 40??? Yet, this particular news (?) agency will accuse various companies or government organizations for discrimination (by the way, I am not a Fox fan.

I like the thai way of just saying what they really want for job qualifications than lying and acting like they are open to all applicants.

    Greta Van Susteren.....

Are people of your country ( America) aware of the fact that this topic isn't about your favorite News channel, nor the of course immense- number of soap operas.

No country for old men. :jap:

Even back in the mid nineties I was working at Heathrow and I remember Virgin airlines had a policy of employing all model class cabin crew and once they were starting to show signs of age or getting bigger they'd be given a counter or admin job at the airport.
  2. Wish the passengers sitting next to me had width restrictions.

Here Here. I always say that. I'm 73KG and allowed 20oKG hold luggage but a 100KG person is allowed the same. Should be a scale for passenger and luggage to be weighed on together and a tax imposed on anything over a certain weight. I do expect flack for this but bring it on. Who cares how big the cabin crew are anyway. We don't have to be squashed next to them do we.

May be they should be setting ticket prices by the kgbiggrin.gif

PS. I hope you are a male weighing 73kg not a female

Yes I'm a bloke, But from what I saw on my last trip to UK a year ago even 73KG would be below average for a female these days. How we progress.

  4. if he was a Brit, even half a Brit, why would he have to get a visa to go to his own country? I don't need a visa to go to the US. I know plenty of people with dual Canadian citizen-ships and they don't need visas. How is starting a riot in Bangkok and burning property resulting in deaths not a crime. You start a riot, I as the government have to protect the people's right to a safe country. Some of the riot-teers get killed, and it's another I'm wrong but you are wrong for preventing me from doing what was wrong. So the wrong people got hurt, the businesses were wronged and suffered. This is the wrong issue to be following. <_<

I have British and Australian but for years I never renewed the British passport. I used to just get a 6 month stamp in my Aussie passport on entry to the UK. It even says work prohibited but of course I have a British national insurance number so just carried on as normal. For sure if the shit hit the fan for the present top man he wouldn't need to seek asylum as he is a UK citizen when he wants to be. Then again this could turn him into a wanted man.
  5. Back in 1997 christmas day in Colombo (Sri Lanka) I went to the zoo with a friend. An elephant went mad and attacked a handler killing him in front of us. There too all I saw from the other handlers was lots of blowing whistlers and hitting, hurling stuff etc. Last things you'd think would have a calming effect on an enraged elephant. Then again even if they used sleeping darts I suppose the elephant would end up injuring the riders by rolling on them. As regards the absence of senior management at the hospital, You may depend they will be having an emergency meeting to discuss how they can avoid responsibility. More than likely a junior mahout will be told to disappear then all blame will be put on him. And before any Thailand is heaven and if you don't like things here then go home types jump down my throat, just take a look at just about every time a falang is killed in a tour group related accident in Thailand. Even Thai friends know this and say " Nobody cares before it's  falang and not Thai dead". Well it is sad for the victims but I will add that what with bungy jump bungles, Jeep, minibus and camping deaths to name a few there is no shortage of information on the internet about tourist  safety issues in Thailand and even what to expect if it all goes wrong{Namely no support}. <br>

  6. Yes still available widely from just about all Pattaya travel agents but you'd save money doing it yourself. Whatever you do you still have to face the constant tip this and tip that of Ko Kong. They tell you in Pattaya the overpriced ticket covers everything all the way to Sihanoukville but try and tell that to the Cambodians. You'll get charged for the tuk tuk from the hotel in Ko Kong to the bus station next morning for a start when it's supposed to be laid on free. Don't be put off though as once you get the Ko Kong bullshit out of the way Sihanoukville is a great place to spend time and you'll find it cheap as chips compared to Pattaya as regards to drinking,Nightlife etc..

For Apartment your looking at between 100 and 200 dollars for the month. I pay 70 bucks a month for big room with ensuite and I cook outside the room on gas stove. So much choice of places to stay for all tastes and budgets. Just come here and check into a place for a couple of nights then talk to expats in the bars etc. to find something to suit you longer. Good luck

  7. Based on my education, I would sumise that this poor couple died of CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING..... it would fit every piece of this seemingly unidentifiable puzzle. Carbon monoxide is odourless, slow acting ,and has the efect of putting people into a sleep followed by coma, then death. Perhaps the police should concentrate on items removed and professional/business interests and monetary gains by possible competitors. RIP to these poor people.

Glad you agree with me on this as it makes the most sense but we will see unless it gets buried in the information black hole

Of course this make sense, but providing 'monetary gains' also includes investigating authorities who may 'benefit' from shutting up, or simply inventing 'evidence'.

How does this make sense? CO2 in their rooms? thailand doesnt have the same issues with heaters killing people from CO2 as they do in the US. There is no CO2 producing equipment in the rooms. It make more sense that the woman died in bed and them the man decided to drop his body. Doesnt it get tiring from comments by those continuously complaining about thailand and its ways. Just go home and be quiet. It makes the forum so boring to read even when there is something interesting on here. perhaps the forum should be split up into 2 parts. the jokers and complainers - and the positive contributors. in the real world thats usually the kind of people who hang out with each other.

Wrong side of bed old chap?

  9. Very sad. I know we can speculate on a million causes but it reminds me of a case when I was visiting Darjeeling years ago and that was caused by using a coal heater in a room with crap ventilation and carbon monoxide poisoning was the cause of death. Wouldn't expect it to be cold now in February even in Chiang Mai but could be aircon or something such as cooking with stove in their room with bad ventilation. These MSR multi fuel stoves are great but can be bad news indoors.

  10. What's the real story? I've often seen Hi-so people to go to this place just to talk and look down on people working in a-gogo bars. I won't be surprise that is what happened and this a-gogo bar didn't let it go...

Regardless of the HiSO or LOSO status of a person, One has the right to go to a bar, restaurant or any business open for the public without receiving a beating. This is why I gave up on Thailand a year ago and moved to Cambodia. It's become crabs in a barrel the Thailand I loved.

  11. Well putting aside all the political agendas etc. etc. I live in Cambodia and I've made friends with an English guy and his Thai lady who are holidaying here. All the Khmer people here are nothing but friendly with her and they all know the latest border dispute news. The local ladies are always hugging her and there is far from any bad blood. To cut a long story short what I'm saying is that ordinary people see what they see in front of them and unless whipped up into a nationalist crowd mentality frenzy most people are essentially good inside and don't hate anyone. I just added this to put minds at rest of anyone who may be hesitant about bringing their Thai lady to Cambodia at this time. The problems have been at one border point, Not affecting anything in country in Thailand or Cambodia as far as travelers are concerned.
