A friend of mine 88 yrs old just renewed his drivers licence at the Buriram licencing branch without any problem. All the guys were waiting to see what would happen as he is the oldest among us, but no problems at all. I have heard that you need a medical examination at 90 yrs but so far it is hearsay.

Great bludy service, i don't think. It seems most consulates have a bad name when it comes to service. The consulate won't even tell me what procedure i have to take. There seems to be an unofficial ruling that no matter who is fighting they leave each others oil alone. If Ukraine had bombed all of Russia's oil wells it would have brought Russia to a stop overnight, No power (OIL) no fight. The same would go for Iran, take out their oil and you stop any fighting for years. Russia and Iran are both big oil producers so it would effect them big time.

Have to agree with spidermike that asking questions of Thai's is a no no because of the stupid loss of face belief. A good friend of mine (now deceased) taught English in his local school. He spoke Thai which helped and he encouraged the pupils to ask questions which he said helped with the learning in the class, however outside of his class there was no way the kids would ask questions of the other teachers. If it was not for the stupid loss of face belief in this country, i believe it would be miles ahead of where it stands, economically and every other way.

Back home i used to hate drivers driving slowly in both lanes and blocking traffic and used to think i wish i was driving a truck so that i could shunt the one in the right lane up the axse. Later there came a time when i was driving trucks and no one ever slowed down in front of me, wonder why ?.

I have a yellow book and a pink card. All that was required to get both was my passport and my copy of the rental lease. Both done and dusted the same day within 45 mins at the local Amphoe office. I have never tried to use my pink card at a bank but have used it booking into hotels and on one occasion showed it to the immigration police doing a check at Buriram bus station because my passport was at home and they accepted it OK. I told them that i carried the card and not my passport because if both were lost, the card would be easily replaced where as getting a new passport would be a lot harder and time consuming, they said that was OK.
