  1. I see that every day. Swastikas on their t-shirts, Third Reich helmets and even swastikas tattooed on their arms or hands. When I ask them whether they know what it represents, they answer "fashion!"

They are not aware, not the children nor the parents. How can they be made aware? Very difficult IMO. It does need to be included in their curriculums, at school, but so do many other things.

The problem here is ignorance, an appalling ignorance. Adults, as well as children, lack general knowledge on many things. The No 2 of a Bank in Chiangmai, told me that Canada is somewhere in Africa !

  2. I visited Abo solar this morning. They have more solar light styles than you can shake a stick at! The owner is Italian, has his main shop in Chiang Mai, and is closing his Phuket shop on the 23rd of this month. If you buy in quantity - ie more than one or 2 products, then the discount is between 40-50% !

I was impressed with their choice and came away with their brochure and a couple of different solar garden lights to test.

additionally, they can supply solar water heating systems. Their non-pressurised, 150 litre system (ideal for 2 pax) was of interest to me because it is the right size to supply hot water for a 2-pax guest room. also of interest was that the standard price of just 12,900 baht would be discounted by 40-50% if I bought more than 4 units.

I'll test out the lights and think hard about the water heaters. One of the 'mini-resorts' that I'm building has a limited electricity supply, so I'm keen to use solar-powered products where these are 'fit for purpose'

Simon: i would suggest you to contact engineothailand@hotmail,com for this.

  3. Tommy, I strongly recommend you to pursue your Thai learning in this way: learning to speak, read, and write at the same time. You cannot pronounce correctly Thai words otherwise. I did learn Thai in three months, by myself. I have seen many farangs learning Thai with transliteration. The result: they don't make the difference between มา (maa), ม้า (maa'), หมา (maa~). Finally they have an incomprehensible conversation (if conversation there is), after 10 years.

  4. I renewed my retirement visa in the Spring by wiring in 800,000 baht into my Thai savings account 3 months before renewal. All smooth at the immigration office and renewed easily. This year I don't think I will spend all the 800K (less going out I guess). Can anyone answer with certainy the following:\

Does the 800,000 have to be wired from outside each and every year OR is it sufficient that there is a balance of 800K even though some of that money was wired in for the prior year.

In other words does a new 800,000 have to be transfered inside each and every year for renewal???

Is the immigration officer looking that 800K was wired into Thailand within the last year regardless of any existing balance?

    Thanks ahead of time

    Those were answered here:

But in case you missed it, and to make it simpler for you...all you need to do is have a balance of at least 800,000 Baht on the day of renewal, and that the amount has not dropped below 800,000 Baht in the three months (90 days?) prior to renewal date.

What some people do is leave the 800,000 unused for years, and that (unless its changed recently) satisfies Thai Immigration.

If you go the other route and see the 800,000 as usable during the year, then thats fine, also. Just top it up and keep it at that level for 3 months prior to renewal.

If you only spend, say 452,381 Baht during the nine months before the "seasoning" has to be performed, then you only need to wire in 347619 Baht to satisfy Immigration. That info is gathered from the visa gurus on here, and not just my opinion

    FAIR ENOUGH.

But what if I topup my account to 800K, three months prior to the day I go to meet IMM, and I continue to use my money during those three months, when I visit IMM on the due day, my account does not show anymore 800K ?

  5. For the retirement VISA, that is the O-A visa obtained in your home country, the money is generally shown in your home country (if qualifying based on banked money). For EXTENSIONS based on retirement, done in Thailand based on banked money, the money must be in a Thai bank account. Starting with an O-A to retire in Thailand is one option, not the only way.

For EXTENSIONS based on retirement, done in Thailand based on banked money, the money must be in a Thai bank account. ALSO, the 800,000 B must be in the account THREE (3) months before you come to see the IMM Officers for your extension.
