No country, however rich or prepare, can win against the force of nature.
Even in Singapore, where it's supposedly super-efficient with excellent infrastructure... flash floods hit parts of the island this afternoon after a heavy torrential downpour.
I just hope Thailand can recover from this tragedy quickly!

Even if the Farang has won this 'fight', do you think he still wants to park his precious BMW there?
I doubt so.
His car would not look the same again when he gets back.

Thanks so much for all your help! I think I will go ahead with my trip.

Hi, please kindly advise whether it is safe to travel to Hua Hin from Bangkok during this week?
I will be flying in from Singapore to Bangkok on 13 Oct, Thurs, and will be travelling by car to Hua Hin where I already booked a hotel. Will the road be safe from the rain?
Also, I will be returning from Hua Hin on 17 Oct.... will there be a problem with the flood too? Or should I just stay in Bangkok and forget about venturing out (I know Pattaya is not safe this week).
Some advise needed as I am not sure about the road condition in Hua Hin right now?
Thanks in advance.

It's definitely NOT ok for a child to walk a long way home alone. They also say it's ok because it's not their child.

How long is long? Down to the waist?

AirAsia having 'Free Seats' promotion right now!
I have been trying to book a seat for an hour now but no luck... still waiting!

I am surprised nobody bought up similar acid attack cases on tourists in Hong Kong. The culprit threw acid down from their room above on unsuspecting tourists milling around the famous night market on many occasions and was never caught until recently. I hope this is not a copycat case in Bangkok.... it will certainly create an atmosphere of fear for tourists.

Nice pictures, Ian! I especially like the picture of the group of little children, holding hands, as they trudged up the little hill.
The girls are very sweet in the last pic!
Thai are generally nice. The not-so-nice ones are the one found in many shopping center (especially at MBK where some of the sale staff are really rude)

I am not sure about the lotus blossom and its link to the architecture of the airport (the first time I have heard of it). Surely it's a failing of the designer as no one would think about this link at all just by looking at the airport.
The interior architect could have incoporate some Thai cultural heritage into the design... the mural of the wall could have depiction of Thai history for example..some wood carving or Thai arts reflected on the design... why just concrete gray wall....what is so Thai about it?
That is my impression anyway. The dismal feeling as I wait at the departure hall.... cold and unwelcoming.
If my memory serves me correctly, the old airport has much more character and style... thai style anyway.

Suvarnabhumi Airport is like a hospital to me... clean, spare and clinical.
Which is a shame because Thailand is so rich in their culture. They should start thinking about stamping their rich cultrual print into their architect, designing something that reflect all things Thai. At the moment, it's just grey hard concrete...it could be any airport in the world.

He must be real pissed off when he stormed into the station....just noticed in the pix that both his shoe laces were undone.

Pol Chief Wichean needs to go. And not a moment too soon. Just look at that tummy. Chalerm looks to be in better shape than Wichean.
And, yes, though I like Yingluck.... she needs to let her hair down. She looks a little old in the picture.

Certainly better educated, more successful at work, and a better parent than a great many foreigners resident in Thailand.
And that makes her qualified to be the leader of a country of 60 million people?
She is qualified because she won the general election.
Abhisit is not qualified because he lost the general election.
Well said.
Also, Yingluck has perfect set of teeth.... Abhisit has crooked teeth.
Can I have the name of Yingluck's dentist please.
-
Congrats, PM Yingluck! I wish you good luck!
You must be one of the best looking PM in the world!

This clown is only suitable for one post in the Parliament.... that of PM.....Pimp Minister!
I hope the new governent will turn the table on him and start digging out skeletons in his closet!
Pot calling the kettle black!

Give peace a chance. If everyone is bend on getting their 'revenge'....reconciliation will never happen.
Let's start by nice to each other, shall we?

What a bunch of sore losers! The Democrates are just blindly throwing the kitchen sink and all.... I have lost whatever small respect I have for them. They should just sit at a corner and sulk for all I care.

Puppet or not.... she is one well-dressed woman! Kudos to her and her megawatts smile.
She is not even officially a PM and yet so many want her to prove something. It may take her months at the helm before one can fairly judge if she is a capable PM. Give her a break!
-
You may say what you want but one thing is certain... Abhisit is already a 'damaged goods'.
If he can't win this election even with the backing of the not-so-invisible hand of a general, then what chance would he have to lead his party in the distance future?Next!!!
-
The big question- how accurate are these exit polls???
I hope to see the arrival of the first woman to be the Thai's PM!

Hmmm...no wonder most of the airport eateries in the departure area are almost always empty.....most of the passengers must have been delayed by the queue!

Less tourists!
And more honest taxi drivers.

It's pretty ok. In fact, I ate there only three days ago. Now back in S'pore but I had good impression of the duck! Good stuff! :jap:
The other food items you just dunked into the chilli sauce....so they all tasted almost the same....chilli! I like the chilli sauce though so it gets a pass from me.... but I can think of many other restuarants in Thailand that I would rather dine.
