  1. I still prefer Agoda over Booking.com for the smiple reason that they have more room choices..

For example, I am trying to book a room at Tawana Bangkok for May.

Agoda has Deluxe Balcony, Junior Suite and Suite....all of which are not offered at Booking.com

And it is also true that if you book direct with the hotel, you might get favorable room preference. But sometimes prices at online sites are cheaper than booking direct.

  2. OK,

    Here is a

of the video I took yesterday, using my £2000 ( pound) video camera in a dedicated water resistant 'raincoat'. You'll see that around Ratchadamnoen road, lt was fine. At Taephae Gate i decided to put the camera away, that's when the idiots came out.

Hope those of you that did not get there enjoy it

    Cheers

Nice camera work! Make me wish I am there!

  3. Sign or no sign, when a person in charge says no, please show a little respect by following the rules especially if you are in a foreign country.

For example, there is no sign indicating no spitting. Does it mean I can spit all over the station. And when the station guard tells me to stop...do I just ignore and expect no retaliation.

A little mutual respect goes a long way!

  4. I always tip well....for a good service and job well done.

They never forget a good tipper!

you mean you are as stupid as me?

Judging by the size of your forehead, I think you are way smarter than me. haha....

  5. Long but orderly queues at departure clearance area on 2 April 1800hr, BUT the speed at which the officers cleared the outgoing tourists was very impressive. About 15 minutes of waiting for me but little to complaint about since there were lots of people going out and also due to smaller immigration area (upgrading work nearby).

Well done. I was also very impressed when I landed on 28 March. Was cleared on arrival in 5 minutes! Amazing Thailand!

  6. You have to be especially careful if you are a diabetic. Only yesterday I read a news about a Singapore man who had to have his lower leg amputated after some skin-eating bacteria infected his wound from stepping on a centipede.

  7. All I can say is that watching that shaky video from Andrew's site, I felt so dizzy that I wish I can beat up the person who took that video.

    Just joking. No violence please.

    Any other video source?

  8. Of all the people saying they have been in line for 45-minutes, I bet the vast majority are great exaggerations. Even when immigration lines were longer and I ran into a rare incident where in coming immigration lines went all the way down the ramp and into the arrival hallway .. I was only in line about 30 or 40 -minutes (I know for sure I was in the taxi within an hour from the planes arrival and stopped and smoked before going to immigration ... also it was a plane that didn't arrive at a gate). That was about 3-years ago and I have never seen anything close to that since and average wait on arrival is probably 10 minutes or at arriving at the luggage collection area as bags are still coming down the chute.

It's no exaggeration to claim that the wait was more than 2 hours. It happened to me during Feb. I was stuck in the queue from 12.30 and only managed to clear immigration at 2pm.

The recent situation was really appalling! Maybe that's why they are doing something now.

Coming back again in two weeks' time and I pray that the situation will improve. It's no fun to start a holiday on a bad mood!!!

  9. It was horrendous all right! I arrived around mid-day (probably one of the worst time to arrive) during late Feb and there were long, confusing queues. You might find yourself queuing at the end of one line only to find, horror of horror, this line of people joining up with another line somewhere in the middle and only one immigration officer on duty in front of this mess! My blood pressure went up all right! It was a long 2 hours wait and all the time I was waiting, I tried to stop thinking.... please, please, nobody steal my luggage!

It's a simple case of insufficient manpower more than anything else.

  10. Through 'experiments' online last night, I come away with the conclusion that it's always best to open up a few windows and try to do a few booking simultaneously. Do not just rely on the queue system. One queue had me waiting for 30mins before it showed the dreaded red 'busy bee' page and getting back to the original booking page is almost impossible and one has to start all over again. Very frustrating. With few windows opening with the booking requests at the same time, I find that I have more luck getting into the actual booking page and completing the booking process.

Also, I find that I have more success with browser Chrome than with either Explorer or Firefox (which Airasia recommended!).

Do remember to cancel the advance seat booking and the insurance as that will add up quite a bit to the final cost.

Good luck trying! I saved a few hundreds dollars last night.
