I GAVE THAI BF A BAUME AND MERCIER WATCH FOR BIRTHDAY. IT WAS GENUINE, BUT HE WON'T WEAR IT BECAUSE THEY SELL THE FAKE ONES AT PATPONG AND HE THINKS PEOPLE WILL THINK ITS A KNOCK-OFF. JUST CAN'T WIN.

I am 28, work for a British/Thai company and get paid in pounds. 60,000 pounds/yr plus bonus goes pretty far in LOS. I am saving a ridiculous amount of money as company pays for apartment, maid, car and driver, its ridiculous. I would be just an average wage earner in london. Here I live like a KING!!!!

I LIVED IN BKK FOR 1 YEAR, EATING THAI FOR EVERY MEAL. WHEN I RETURNED HOME I HAD LOST 15 POUNDS.
ANOTHER BENEFIT OF EATING THAI FOOD......NO STOMACH DISCOMFORT. I WAS ALWAYS GETTING SICK IN THE USA.....MANY TRIPS TO BATHROOM. IT TURNS OUT I WAS ALLERGIC TO DAIRY AND WHEAT.....RARE INGREDIENTS IN THAI DIET.
ONE YEAR LATER BACK IN THE US I HAVE REGAINED THE 15 POUNDS AND AM SICK AGAIN!!!!!!!

Never put a cover on simmering coconut milk. It will cause it to go bad.

Wouldn't be nice if a real answer to a question could be had on Thaivisa. Everyone just wants to be a comedian. I have wasted too much time scrolling through responses that have nothing to do with the actual question. I too would like to know the caloric value of masaman curry (probably the more than two big macs).

Malaysia Hotel. Very funky in a 1973 way. Its very cheap (700 baht), close to the metro, and has a great restaurant. All sorts of strange types hangout in this hotel...mostly of the gay persuassion......ladyboys...rent boys....dirty old German queens....
Best secret of Bangkok...don't tell anyone!

I have never been able to find Galangal at the asian markets here in Boston, USA. I did find it in LA and on the internet. Also, Morning Glory (pad pak bung) is a rarity. The garlic used in Thailand is very different from the stuff we get over here. Thai garlic is tiny and the skin is left on when cooking.

Two possible reasons for no replies; 1. People don't like people who shout at them for no good reason. 2. People don't want to give their 'gems' to people who shout at them for no good reason.
I could help, but I'll direct you to the Samui forum instead.
ME THINKS YOU HAVE TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS........

I AM LOOKING FOR A NICE PLACE TO STAY IN SAMUI'S CHAWENG BEACH. NO NEED FOR A POOL....JUST BE CLOSE TO THE BEACH AND HAVE A LITTLE ATMOSPHERE.
I USUALLY STAY AT CHAWENG VILLA, BUT WITH THE BAHT AT 32 TO THE DOLLAR, I HAVE TO LOWER MY STANDARDS A LITTLE.
THANKS....
PS THIS IS FOR END OF NOVEMBER

I AM LOOKING FOR A TRAVEL AGANCY THAT SELLS LOW COST PACKAGES TO BALI (AIRFARE AND HOTEL) FROM BANGKOK.
I KNOW THAT THEY SOMETIMES HAVE ADS IN THE SUNDAY POST. I AM NOT LIVING IN THAILAND ANYMORE SO THE PAPERS ARE HARD TO GET.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?????

Thailand is getting some bad press as late. All you here about is the violence down south and the drug addicted youths robbing/beating tourists. If that was not bad enough...the baht has fallen from 40 baht to 35 baht to the dollar....or less.
I first visited Thailand in the early 90's....so different......friendly people..smiles.......now not so much. The people in tourist areas seem so jaded.
The story of the Thai cutting off that womans arm didn't help much either.
Look, there are a lot of cheap, sunny places to visit.....where we are welcome and happy to be hosted. Thailand better smarten up fast or else.

I LOVE TO COOK THAI FOOD, ESPECIALLY STIR-FRYS AND FRIED RICE. BUT IT NEVER TASTES THE SAME AS MY FAVORITE SOI STAND. I CAN NEVER GET THE WOK HOT ENOUGH TO GET THAT SMOKEY FLAVOUR.....AND THE APARTMENT FILLS WITH SMOKE......OH WELL...ITS CHEAPER AND BETTER TO TAKEAWAY.

THERE HAVE BEEN MANY RECENT STUDIES IN THE USA THAT REPORT THAT MSG DOES NOT CAUSE ALL THE ADVERSE EFFECTS CLAIMED. WHEN USED IN SMALL AMOUNTS IT DOES INDEED MAKE SOME FOOD TASTE BETTER. IN THE USA, MSG IS CALLED "ACCENT". MOST CHINESE RESTAURANTS PUT "NO MSG" ON THE FRONT OF THE MENUS. I PREFER MY ASIAN FOOD WITH MSG, BUT IT SHOULD BE OPTIONAL....NOT OUTLAWED OR ANYTHING.

I have found that Morning Glory (pak bung) is a great substitute for spinach. Give it a try!

I love the Malaysia Hotel. I would say the place is at least 50 percent gay. The 24 hour coffeeshop is 90 percent gay (and oh so colorful....ladyboys,rentboys, tourists, you name it). The later the hour the better. The rooms are shrines to the late 60's/early 70's. Rates range from 500-700 baht. Pool is small but decent. Its a very well run place for very little money. Great location, close to subway.

I am trying to plan my annual trip to Thailand. I would love to get an estimate of the time needed to get to the new airport as opposed to the old one. And a price. Thanks.
I am arriving on November 25, 2006.....might not be a concern anyway.

Do not breed your Golden unless you are a professional. There are so many Golden that were bred poorly. The breed is getting watered down. Also, inferior breeding has made many Goldens nervous and high strung. A good Golden in the US is at least $1000.

I have bought some beautiful high quality rings at 2 shops at River City Shopping Center near the Royal Orchid Shereton. They are located in the walk way between the hotel and the mall(directly across from each other) Been in business for a long time. Both rings were appraised for twice what I paid when I returned to the US.

I gained about 5 lbs on each of my last three trips to Thailand. I think its the low price of food at restaurants. Each dish is only 2-3 dollars, so why not try them all! This would be ok if I was travelling with other people, but I usually go solo.
Beer every night for 3 weeks does not help either.

Fake Chicken In Thai Food

I have not seen this so called fake chicken here in the US, excet at McDonalds. What I have seen is chicken ingested with up to 20 percent sodium saline. Its disgusting. Most restaurants use pre-cooked packaged chicken breast in salads, which is also nasty. Just charge me $1 more and use the real deal!!!!!!!
