  1. The Farang Connection would have it for sure... they have two large screen TV's there. Also the FC is located at the bus station, easy to find and if you don't have transport it's an easy walk from the three main hotels.

I don't know if the Living Room has Setana, they are a little out of central Surin, still in town but only just. I have heard great things about the people, food and drink there (have to get off my butt and try it), so maybe they have good sports too. Here's their phone number I guess you can call them to find out.

    +66 (0) 837444236 (English)

  2. I do not agree. Even SS316 and SS304 will rust in an iron rich surrounding. Water with a high content iron will maje every SS tank rust. And if you ad chlorine in your tank, thenkife time is extreme short.

Sent from my GT-I9300 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

In practical terms you are most likely correct, the reason iron causes stainless steel to corrode is because the free iron interferes with the formation/ reformation of the chrome oxide layer, ie the thing which makes stainless, stainless, typical one may only see brown dirty marks on the stainless this may not be actual active oxidation/ corrosion of the stainless and cleaning the stainless down with citric acid will get rid of it

Have to bare in mind iron contamination of stainless typically doesn't cause, mass corrosion of the stainless, but pin holes in the material some very small indeed

And yes chlorine/ chlorides can play havoc with stainless steel, 304 grade being more susceptible than 316 grade, but not saying 316 will could have problems as well

To comment on the welding issues in the other post, typically it's not to do with bad welding technique, but to do with the lack of post weld processing, ie pickling and passivation of the weld, during welding free iron is liberated from the stainless steel due to welding temperatures, if this free iron is not removed from the surface by pickling & passivation allowing the chrome oxide layer to form properly then rusting will occur, an easy visual check to see if P&P has been done......if there is a bluish tinge or discoloration on the weld, known as heat tint....this weld has not been pickled & passivated and one will expect to see oxidation at the weld

I would have considered pre and post as part of the welding technique... if it's not... my bad... didn't know I had to be so literal.

  3. I found that the plastic tank we had was the source of some skin irritations. When I went to see the doctor the first thing he asked was do I have a plastic water tank.

Many people covered the issues with corrosion in stainless steel tanks... usually due to poor welding techniques and not using stainless steel connections. If the maker used brass pipe connections or a low grade of stainless, the dissimilar metals will react with each other and cause corrosion. Also iron in your water supply can be a source of corrosion.

Buying a good quality and brand of stainless steel tank should be able to handle any water condition.

    Hope this helps you.

  4. Grow mushrooms... easy to do and you can sell them to local restaurants and other village markets... I say other villages as this will reduce the risk of people in your village from starting their own farm. They can't copy what they can't see.

One thing a mate of mine did was to start a Co-op in his village, he has the whole place growing them (mostly anyways) and he and his wife control the sales and the people involved all make a few extra Baht and he's helping the community that he loves!

You can even take them to the "big smoke" to sell if you happen to live close to one.

  5. You should see the bus parking area at the bus station in Surin... most of the time it looks like a rubbish-tip and other times it's actually worse. When the buses park there the sweep out the rubbish from their buses straight out the bus door... no litter police here... if there was they would be the next billionaire in Surin!

Surin Bus station on a good day!

  6. I think Bangkok is a fantastic city, probably my favorite.

And no, I do not frequent the "pay for play female scene" nor do I think that BKK is particularly cheap (not anymore).

I love the cinemas, the book stores, the food, the shopping, the BTS......

But of course, the usual Thai bashers will be along shortlysmile.png

That's so true... I enjoy Bangkok when I'm there... so much good fun to be had!

  7. if you cannot even locate equipment what hope is there of you actually following through or being successful?

try JJ Market. also a shop on Rama IV a kilometer from tesco lotus towards onut.

there are plenty of restaurants going out of business if you look around, your big problem is going to find competent staff.

where are you thinking of opening, keith floyd tried it and failed.

He's right, staffing is a major issue. Even if you pay the highest rate and you treat them well it is no guarantee of any loyalty. If they don't turn up they hold your business to ransom. If they pixx off a customer and you attempt to rectify they (the staff) will run away (loss of face).

Another issue can be jealous competition who will slurr you by all available means to stop you from becoming successful. This is equally true if both Thai and Farang competitors.

    Next. Location, location, location.

Finally how many covers do you need to sell to pay the rent, pay the staff and take a decent salary?

Good luck.... It is a really really tough business to break even

This is so true... we found the slurring part out the hard way... some people are so ugly!

  8. Lots of great suggestions here. We get a few people from that area come to Surin for a couple of months during the times of year when it's difficult to breath. Met one guy at the FC a couple of months back. He said he likes Surin and has been going there for the sites and restaurants for a couple of years now.

  9. well i am planing to keep it

I not want to rent and be ripped off coz they said i damaged it

    better i buy 2nd hand

if i knew someone with a ute ( pickup ) i could buy one in BKK or Pattaya

so if any one knows of one coming on to the market soon i am interested to buy

    thank you

Okay just thought I would ask. We rent motorbikes, cars and trucks in Surin... we've never charged anyone for damage they didn't do... but I agree better you buy one. We see them all the time for sale, some great deals to be had if you know where to look.

  10. We are looking for someone in Thailand that can supply us with commercial hot water heat pumps, say from 20kw heat output. We currently have a requirement for 4 x 75kw heat output hot water heat pumps.

We either need a company that already has the capacity to build hot water heat pumps or we need a company like an air conditioning manufacturer that can build heat pumps to our design specifications.

Please PM me or post information on this thread.

    Cheers!

Below is a picture of one of the units (75kw) we use to manufacture in Australia.

  11. HI

I've been using the Buri Ram Pie man for the last year, and have had no problems. He has a wide menu which I hav'nt exhausted yey.

You should be able to find him on the internet as he has his own web site. Not sure if I ca put the address on here.

    Cheers

Mike (across the river in Roi Et)

I have just checked a map. Buriram is about 120kms. How often do you go there?

He also delivers to Surin (Frang Connection) and Sisaket (already mentioned above)

Yes you can order from the pieman and have him deliver to the Farang Connection. They will keep the goods in the freezer for you to pick up or you can plan your trip to Surin on the same day the pieman delivers to the FC.

  12. There was a 'PM-Yingluck' who gave a resoundingly fine, if slightly whinging, speech about democracy to a bunch of people in Mongolia earlier this year.

And there's our own PM-Yingluck, who runs from the media when she doesn't like the way their questions are going, and who remains resolutely silent when her supporters try to deny other parties their freedom-of-speech.

Does anyone think, that they might possibly be related, clones even ? rolleyes.gif

I guess anything is possible... right?

  13. You mean it needed tests to come to this conclusion?

Several years ago I was in the situation of having to correspond at length with the head of the English department at one of the big Bangkok Universities . . . the lady in charge of teaching the teachers. I was astonished to discover that her written English was probably similar to that of a bright UK/USA/Aus etc 8-or 9-year-old . . . ie, confident but littered with grammatical and structural mistakes.

Will the Thai nation remain smug and offhand when it is suddenly out in the same competitive trading arena as the other ASEAN countries?

And will it keep its back turned with even fiercer pride, and shout even more loudly about how much finer the nation is than its . . . neighbours?

    YOOOOOOOOOO BETCHA IT WILL!

    R

I still think we'll see the ol' two step flip-flop on ASEAN... I feel Thailand won't be ready and they are not going to expose themselves to a rush of workers from other countries that can speak English... they will "take the Thai jobs" away and I can't see that happening...

  14. If you're planning to air condition the house and require fresh air intake then a energy recovery ventilator should be considered. This recovers the cool energy from the air before it is exhausted out and pre-cools the fresh air coming in. Here's a link (not to my site) about energy recovery ventilators: http://www.airchange.com.au/products-projects/products/ventilators/erv-ic-70/

In almost every case the temperature is not the problem, what we do is to use an air conditioner to provide dehumidification more than cooling. The problem with this is an effect called "over-cooling" which adds considerable amount of money to the running cost.

Another issue in moisture removal using standard air conditioning is having a "wet" cooling cool. Most people think that the water coming from the condensation drain is good... in actual fact a cooling coil that is wet can be more than 30% less efficient than a dry coil.

If you can keep your room/home at say 27C and 45% RH this will have the same feeling to us humans as 22C and 60% RH. But the cost of cooling the air from 27 to 22 is a huge portion of your air conditioning cost.

And of course the reduction in humidity means the air conditioner will be much more energy efficient. So what's the answer?

Here in Thailand it is a bit difficult to use modern off the shelf products but there are a couple of things you can do to get the most from your system.

The first step is to have a high quality air conditioner. This is one industry you get what you pay for and you will always pay. Meaning you buy a cheap A/C unit and it will cost a fortune to run, or you can pay extra when you buy one and get a very efficient system

The second thing to do is to buy a small portable dehumidifier. Again in choosing one the rules for buying A/C's applies.

The third thing you can do is install a wast heat recovery system on your split air conditioning unit that will produce all of your hot water for showers, laundry and dishes.

The nice thing is in most cases if you're only renting, you can take these with you when you move.

Here is a picture of what a waste heat recovery unit looks like.... with storage you have all the hot water you need for free, if you're running your A/C.
