  1. I'm a bit of a member card addict, what discount do they offer on drinks only? And what happens when they already have the 2 for 1 deal, any further discount?

They offer 15% on drinks only, not sure what the their rules are about a further discount on their 2 for 1 deals, normally I have got it but a couple of time I didn't, we had got such a good discount with the food I didn't notice at the time - though I should have done.

It's certainly saved us a wedge of money, but I have always been a regular anyway.

    Cheers

  2. By far the best Sunday Roast is the Huntsman Pub (downstairs Landmark Hotel) they do a full buffet/carvery and i mean everything! think its only 650bt eat as much as you like, I have tried most of the places in BKK and this is the best!!!

And of course drinks are buy one get one free.

They also do a roast on a Saturday which is substantially cheaper.

If you are regular visitor to The Landmark it maybe worth purchasing one of their Club Landmark cards, they cost 5,000 Baht but for that you get reduction 50% when 2-4 people are dinning, a smaller discount for 1 or more than 4, in any of their restaurants, they also throw in a night at the hotel, and free meal for 4 in the Atrium during your birthday month - that gets your money back, as well as other benefits, including discounts on drinks.

Only really worth considering if you will use regularly.

  3. You wouldn't mind if these farang volunteers were well-rounded individuals, unfortunately, those who appear here on TV are far from that.

A couple of months ago I was traveling to Nong Khai and stopped off in Udon and happened to get talking to a French guy who could speak very little English and zero Thai, had been living here just about a year, had a very strange appearance and admitted he was only living in Udon for the cheap woman. He was proud to be a tourist police volunteer.

How on earth someone like this chap could be taken on I have no idea.

    edit for spelling.

  4. :o from my Spurs buddy.

"A seven-year-old boy was at the center of a London courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible.

The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him.

After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone. "

  5. For those interested, I'd highly recommend "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins and "God Is Not Good" by Christopher Hitchens - they put it much better than I could ever hope to do.

Strongly agree regarding Professor Richard Dawkins, 'The God Delusion' by the way it was the best seller over the Christmas period when it was published :o

I have not read Hitchens yet, its on my list 'to do'

  6. Any photographer will tell you that picture was shot at night, wake up.

It is clearly not from this rally, they are all holding plastic hands to clap louder, not Thai flags,

Unsure. Click on "properties" and see the dates.

An interesting image, no matter when the photo was taken.

However, totally out of context of what is happening today, very misleading indeed so please stop it.

  7. Hi John,

I ordered a few items last night via ChefXP, good and unique quality food.

The TG I was with, not known for liking farang food enjoyed the Chicken Empanadas ;-)

One constructive comment I would like to make would be to foil the food rather than just use plastic containers.

  8. I'll come down for the 29th as I want to meet up with 'Harry Hacker' again.

(But we'll want badges. Badges are important)

"Badges?... We don't need no... stinkin' badges!"

Very much doubt I will be free for the TV 'meet up' but when you do come down I will surely meet up with you, maybe the brothers will be around too.

  9. If living in Bangkok you are advised not to use mail. There is Suan Phlu; the One Stop Center, floor 16 Rasa Tower II at Soi 19 Phaholyiothin Road, just North of Central Plaza Latphao or Airport (not in hotel but South end of runway someplace - do a search as someone has posted driving instructions here).

To the OP, as said above their are great driving instructions in this forum and here are a few scans to help.

    X marks the spot.

  10. yes, give what you can

dont feel obliged, you will only resent it later.

so always, do what you are comfortable with. if at any point you see them going through some hardship and WANT to help with additional one off amounts, then do so. or if there are exceptional circumstances then I would do it. but it all depends on what you can afford, what you are willing to give.

    theres no set rules.

I would also speak to the wife so she is aware you are able to do it now, but it might not be something you can do in perpetuity (never know what the future entails, so best to prepare them with practical expectation)

    congrats on the wedding :D

Its not you who he is going out with is it? :o

  11. I had a email flyer from Bangkok Bank today offering;

"Bangkok Bank has launched a new five-month fixed deposit with an interest rate

of 3.80 percent per annum. The minimum deposit is 50,000 Bt and maximum is 5,000,000 Bt. The new rate will be available from August 4-18, 2008 at any branch."

    I replied asking if this was open to all and here is their reply;

    "Thank you for your email.

Yes, you can open this fixed deposit at any Bangkok Bank branch. Pls bring your passport and work permit along. On the other hand, if you can get 2 or more persons to open account, we’ll be glad to come to your office.

    Thank you and kind regards,"

    Hope this helps the OP

  12. In relation to the complaints and some of the comments to deal with cold calls, it may interest you to know that some companies have a special list of difficult and dead end prospects that are regularly used by new assistants, secretaries and sales people to cut their teeth with. By being difficult, rude and obnoxious you may be inadvertently subjecting yourself to further inexperienced persons to annoy you.

You get what you give some say.

    Seems fair to me.
