Does anyone know where one can learn hairdressing in BKK and the costs involved ?

I've been told private salons are willing to impart skills at about 50,000 baht but without any certificate. Is the price reasonable ?

I don't think the person will learn the right skills working in a private salon to be honest, they will always be the 'maid' just washing hair etc.

Get the person to go a proper school, like khunjoeschool.com their charges are far less than 50,000 and they get a certificate/diploma.

Also, if the person lives within traveling distance to the temple in Sukhumvit 101 then tell her to go there, they have a school which is well known run by some kind of trust. The cost is virtually zero, the payback is you are expected to cut the hair of the poor for free from time to time.

On the whole, these volunteers would not get a work permit simply on the grounds they are not qualified to do such work. That is why they have to work illegally and risk deportation etc.

I guess 'why do they do it?' should be discussed elsewhere.

I was in the airport the other day. I was wearing a large backpack. Some ageing ex-bargirl (prob) with the obligatory farang hubby in tow wouldn't make any room in the lift. A quick spin on my part unintentionally nudged this awkward woman into the large space towards the back of the lift. "Oh My Gawd" did she holler. You would have thought I decked her.

I was then abused in Thai. I spat out "Sorry" in Thai, to which hubby who had remained silent up to that point strangely added "Correct" in Thai. I assume he was applauding my insincere apology as opposed to my elegant spin.

BTW, if that was you, I am still waiting for an apology.

Is this a good area to live? You've got the BTS nearby, but it isn't open all night (that would be sweet if it was). Is a taxi fare from Soi 50 to lets say Soi 11 reasonable?

I think its fine as it seems the many, many other farangs living in the area. As stated above, a taxi will cost you all of 70 baht from lower Suk after midnight.

How can an airline overbook its seating? If a seat is booked and paid for it should not be sold again. It becomes available if the pax cancels, rebooks or does not turn up at the airport for the flight. How often does this occur?

Well, I think they used to do it deliberately to allow for an average % of "no-shows".
