  1. Two former employers fired me. I had very strong litigation cases for violation of contract which were later settled in my favor. In retaliation for my filing litigation, both held my work permit beyond the new termination date but reported the termination to be sooner, which would normally put me in overstay. In both cases, the immigration officers, one in Isaan and one in Pattaya aggressively investigated the situation and ruled in my favor, chastising the former employers.

Also, any time I report to immigration, I dress as though I am going for a job interview. I have never even once in eight years had the slightest problem. When one immigration officer found the paperwork from a new employer to be shoddy, she took the trouble to make calls and fixed it so I would not have to return. In fact, I have never had anything but the most courteous treatment from any Thai government agency. OTOH, while not exactly hostile, the police in the traffic office on Pattaya's Beach Road office were at best cool (not in a good way).

  2. I agree bdenner, the only reason I ever went to Windows 7 and now Windows 8.1 (new computer) is because XP stopped being updated by MicroSoft in 2014

I also agree. I have 8.0 on a notebook and XP SP on my desktop. I only use the notebook when absolutely necessary. Usually my gf uses it for school. I could have spent the rest of my life on the XP desktop; but the old gal is slowing down and is on her last leg. So is the computer. I have been delaying replacing her until Win 10 comes out, but, after reading your and bdenner's assessments, I think I'll get the new desktop and load it with 8.1. Appreciate the info.

  3. Of course it is racist , the only way to deal with it is to lock up the guilty officers for life.

Wrong. This cop needs to fry.

And this cop does not need job training, he needs humanity training. This happened in South Carolina, one of the most racist states in America.

Also, another black man from Sommerville, S.C., is reopening a complaint he filed against Slager for excessive force in 2013. Slager at the time claimed that the man was going for his Taser. His partner backed him up and the complaint was dismissed. I wonder if it is only these two or if all the African-American men in Sommerville have a desire for Slager's Taser.

  4. Vans have very poor impact protection to start with and of course no seatbelts. Recently I had words with a driver because he was chatting on face book whilst driving like a drunk on yaba and he looked at me like I was the idiot for asking him to stop it

They all have seat belts and speed limiters, Prayuth solved that about 9 months ago, isn't it?

    Should ask Costas.

Idiotic post. Have the government leaders in your home country implemented van safety standards that have improved crashworthiness of vans and would have avoided these deaths? Have your country's leaders implemented driver education programs that would reduce fatalities caused by drivers who fall asleep at the wheel? Has your country required the manufacturers of vehicles to install anti-drifting technology which detects drivers and corrects for drivers who fall asleep at the wheel (yes, this technology is now available)?

    . . .

    I didn't think so.

In the U.S., automobile safety is usually state regulated more than federally regulated.

    In California:

    1. Yes/Maybe

    2. Yes

    3. I don't know.

However, is it essential that every other nation adopt protection laws before Thailand? With van accidents being almost a daily occurrence in LOS, it would seem to me that some initiative on the part of the Thai transportation authorities is in order.

  5. Am I the only one who cannot find the name of the former board member in the article? Obviously the name has been revealed to the police in order to file the complaint, so I am guessing it is not mentioned because he is a minor? smile.png

The reason there isn't a name there is because libel laws are the only laws that that hold any weight in this country (besides LM although it is similar in spirit). This means that if you accuse someone of something, you sure as hell better have very good proof. Otherwise you are going to jail. It keeps the rich in power because if you accuse them of something that might cause a loss of face, their lawyers will hit you with a defamation lawsuit (which is punishable by time in jail) so fast that you won't know what happened.
Actually, even if the accusation is true, you can be sued and prosecuted for defamation.

  6. It seems to me that the last successful coup in Germany occurred in 1933 where the coup leader gained complete political and military control of the country and the edict giving the leader control comparable to Article 44 was called Gesetz zur Behebung der Not von Volk und Reich or Enabling Act. It seems that the PM has already found some guidance from how Germany handled post coup government.

  7. Yes I rather agree. The trials alone for drug dealers are costing a fortune then to keep them in prison for decades costs the taxpayer again. Yes execution sounds harsh but it is time the people on this planet earned their seat at the table of life otherwise drugs murder rape convictions should end in execution. The hard working taxpayer should not be on the hook for trials life jail sentences appeals and all that other associated crap

Fair enough, But if you are going to be just, you must also execute everyone who purchases drugs from a drug dealer. Eliminating the drug user will eliminate the market. No market, no dealers, no mules, no DEAs. Capitalism at its finest!

Eliminating a drug dealer simply creates an opening for others waiting in the wings to step up. Besides, has anyone ever been able to eliminate the dealers of illegal goods? Whiskey? Exotic animals? Ivory? Gold? Cigarettes? Women? Children? High-Powered weapons and ammunition? Secret government documents? Pirated copyright and patented goods?... etc. It is like the magic brooms in Disney's "The Sorcerer's Apprentice." Chop one up and each piece forms a new one.

  8. Pretty good advertisement for a noodle soup shop. Will bite the bitter apple and drive to Korat, just for the sake of a noodle soup this weekend.

You can try to pickup a ticket on the way to get a free meal too smile.png

Although I've only ever seen police checking for speeders on the multi lane highways, so you might have to find a different offense if you want a free meal lol (I think it's just regular roads from Sisaket right? not multi lane highways).

You can go multilane from BKK to Ubon Ratchathani.

  9. I hope he gets what he deserves. RIP to the old lady. One thing though I do not agree with is the way he said a game made him do this. Any normal person who plays a game or watches a movie does not then just stroll out of the house and decide to re-create a scene from either. I think this guy has some serious mental issues and should also be dealt with accordingly. Sad times...............sad.png

Wrong. He never said the game made him do it.

"He said he learned the technique from a computer game in which the main character was an assassin."

He wanted money. That is what made him do it.

  10. What never ceases to amaze me, is how quickly (next day, usually, without any forensics proof)) the "ever astute' Thai police always manage to extract a confession of guilt, from a murder suspect. Perhaps the Thai police should offer confession extraction technique courses to Scotland Yard, the FBI and a host of other world-wide, professional detective agencies. whistling.gif

And they used this technique in front of his parents.
