@connda the reason most motorbike riders wear masks, is that the fine for not wearing a mask in public is up to 20,000 baht! Maybe if the fine for repeatedly not wearing a helmet was a similar amount, more people would wear them. But then again, that seems too simple ????

I recently acquired my 'yellow book' at Amphur Chonnabot in Khon Kaen province.
You will find that Thai MFA will not accept a translation of your passport unless it has first been certified as a correct copy by your embassy! I had to have my passport copied by the embassy (British) which they then certified as being correct copy; then get the translation done, then go to MFA for certifying. You need to make sure that the transliteration of your name is the same as on the marriage cert or the amphur may reject it.
Very valid point made by previous post about transliteration of parents names into Thai; I had great fun, but fortunately they were very helpful at the amphur office and did that part for me.
The 'puyai bahn' also had to go and sign a document to say I lived at the stated address, but no other witnesses were required.
As it has already been stated, just do what you amphur says, because it won't necessarily be the same as others.
Good luck.

Has anyone any experience of using the International Pensions Direct Payment for UK state pension? They pay money directly into a Thai bank account and they claim, at favourable exchange rates. Is this true? Does the UK make any charges for this (they do not say on the web site)?
Any comments would be appreciated.

I agree with a central issan location later in the year, maybe after the rainy season. Although it's a 'party' perhaps it would be possible to have someone speak on a topic of 'common interest' - visas, immigration dept, houses, etc, and of course, agree with a previous post, must have beer leo!

Does the letter need to confirm the length of time the money has been in the account, or can Immigration see from the bank passbook?

I will be applying for my first extension of stay based on retirement shortly, having worked in Thailand for many years on a Non-Imm B visa with work permit.
I will be applying on the basis of 800k in a Thai bank.
My bank claims they have never issued a letter to Immigration Department before, and are unsure what to put in it. Is there a format letter somewhere showing what Immigration Dept expect to see?
Help would be appreciated.

Thanks Lopburi 3 and Mario; from your comments it would seem easiest to make my last day 2 May, get the letter from the bank on 30 April, ATM slip from 2 May, letter from employer stating 2 May last day of employment and head on the Chaeng Wattana! Thanks again for your help and advice.

Sorry, extension of stay from Immigration Dept

I am a 64 year old, British national, who has been working in Thailand since 1995. I have a non-imm B visa and work permit, which have been renewed each year. My current visa expires on 2 May.
I plan to leave my job on 30 April and apply for an extension of stay based on retirement (non-imm O-A).
However, banks are closed on I May for Labour Day holiday, so I cannot get a letter from them verifying the 800k in my Thai bank account, until 2 May.
I got conflicting information from Immigration Dept, too, so I really want to know what I need to do to change my visa to retirement visa, and when I need to do it. My employer has said they will change my date of leaving to either 1 or 2 May to facilitate getting the visa.
Immigration told me I need to void my current visa, then complete a TM86 (Visa Status Alteration form) for the retirement visa. Is this correct?
They also said I need a letter from my employer stating the date of leaving.
If I leave my job on 2 May (the date my visa expires) can I make an application for a retirement visa on the same day?
As regards the 800k, this money has been in Bangkok Bank since the end of last year, but the bank have given me a form (all in Thai) รหัสงาน 4002 (copy attached) to complete, which they will then sign. They say this is acceptable to immigration. Is this correct?
Grateful for any help for what I thought would be a straightforward process.

Can anyone help, please?
Where can I download the new visa regs that are applicable in July, stating the salary requirements?
I have seen the Chiang Mai article and another one from the Phuket Gazette, but have not found anything that comes from an 'official' source that I can give to my employer.
Thanks

Could someone please let me know where I can find the new rules and regulations for visas and work permits, due to be effective in July this year? To include the criteria for issuing them, ie minimum salary, money in the bank etc.
Many thanks

I have just heard from a colleague who has successfully obtained a residence permit, that part of the process was being interviewed and having a 'question and answer' test in Thai. The whole process was recorded on video!
Is this now a new requirement?

Vfs phuket only does visas for Germany and Italy, they DO NOT handle passport renewal.
