my first Bike here in Thailand ( but rode lots in Europe )

    I live in Huahin

I have decided to buy the Honda CB500X  - from Bigwing in Bangkok

So now i have decided on the Bike, can anyone clarify for me

exactly what documents and the purchase procedure is ???

    specifically

    • What documents i need to show at time of purchase
    • Do I need a letter from immigration
    • Can I drive on a UK licence
    • if the answer is no ....... what do i do ?
    • Does anyone recommend a good Insurance company in HH - or do i get it with Honda BKK ?
    • Is there a Motor Bike recovery service in thailand
    • where in HH can I buy quality gloves jacket helmet etc
    • Security  .... i live in an apartment........ what is the best method of securing my bike

    Sorry for lots of questions

  2. Hi All

Can you help me select which MC i should buy !!!!

I am living in Hua Hin

I can ride Big  / small Bikes ... but i am unsure which Bike to select

I want a bike for town use..... with maybe some storage

I guess 60 - 70 % of the time on a bike is pottering around town and short 20-30 km journeys

but i also want to tour a south / east / north Thaialnd .... not a huge bike !!

    with side Panniers etc

So what bike meets my criteria ?

    what size engine ?

I have been advised a big touring bike is not suitable for every day needs

    Budget ....under 200k bht

    hopefully with good fuel economy

What about the Chinese Keeway 250 cc ???

    all comments  / advice welcome

  4. Hi All

    Can anyone advise ...please

I live in Rayong and desperate to find a bar where i can watch the forthcoming Rugby - England v NZ

or alternately anyone know of a way to watch the games live in the internet / streaming ?

As a last resort i would consider a short visit to pattaya to watch the games

Any rugby fans out there in Rayong ?

    Come on England !!!

  5. On what basis are you applying for the "O"? You may want to take supporting for that.

My ultimate aim is a Retirement Visa

First my 30 day TM.6 expires on tuesday

So i am attempting a 90 day O visa, then after 30 days convert to a retirement ?

I have a Thai Bank account with more than 800 K in the Bank

as per my previous post i think i have the required paper work

I just wondered if any of you guys out there had recently visited the Thai embassy In Vientiane

  6. On Sunday i depart for my first ever O visa Run to Vientiane from Bangkok to Vientiane via Nong Khai

Naturally i do not want to make any mistakes / waste time

So can anyone please advise me ....

Is it right to say that all I need to obtain my 90 Day O Visa / single entry at vientiane is

    • 2,000 baht fee
    • Valid passport - with more than 1 year in date
    • 2 completed Visa application forms
    • 3 x passport photos

Any advise on where to stay in Vientiane would be welcome...is the river area guesthouses a good place for a nights entertainment ?

Any adult fun to be had in Vientiane /

Any pitfalls i should be aware of ?

    thanks for your help

  7. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

For the combination of income and money in a Thai there is no requirement for the money to be in the bank other than on the date of application according to the rules. But there are a few offices that will want it to be in the bank for 60 day for the first extension and 3 months after that.

Thanks to you all for your advise

  8. I am at this moment I am going through the process of obtaining my retirement visa

Could someone please confirm for me

i know i must have 800,00 bht to show to immigration

    my question is

my UK Pension is approx 15,000 Sterling before Tax

    but 12,500 Sterling after tax

DO the immigration look at the Gross or Net figures

Where do i go to PROVE the funds ?

are immigration happy to see the funds in two places ...i.e from a UK Pension and money in a Thai Bank

    Last question

How long mist the money be in place in a thai Bank

as ever your guidance and help is appreciated

  9. You can convert your current stay to a Non Imm Visa at Immigration providing you have at least 15 days left on your stay.

You will probably be sent to Bangkok to do this.

Once you have that you can apply for the 12 month extension.

You will need a letter from your bank and an up to date bank book showing the same balance.

The local immigration office for Rayong Province (which is where I live) is at Maptaput, and I do believe that they will insist on you going to Bangkok for a Non-Imm visa. Might therefore be worth your while giving them a call first on 038-684544 or 038-684695 to save a possible wasted journey - although you should be aware that their grasp of English tends, in my experience, to be rudimentary.

Alternatively, if you are fluent in the Thai language (or know someone who is), you may find the necessary info on their website at http://www.rayong-immigration.go.th

Apologies, it would appear that the link in my previous post no longer works and that the current URL address for Rayong Immigration is http://www.rayong-immigration.com/indeximm.php

In any event, a trawl of that website which I have just conducted with the assistance of the Google translator has not managed to unearth any specific info on the Non-Imm visa point. So it is probably best to give them a phone call.

However, in answer to one of your questions, the nearest foreign country to Rayong is Cambodia. So if Maptaput did tell you to go to Bangkok for the Non-Imm visa, I wonder whether you might, in practice, be better off endeavouring to obtain this from the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh given that the main Bangkok Immigration Office at Chaengwattana is closed at the present time. That said I'm not sure how easy (or difficult) it is to obtain Non-Imm visas from that particular Embassy since recent info on Thaivisa only appears to relate to tourist visas obtained there. Perhaps others in the know on this specific point could advise further.

Thanks for your help, but now i have pased the 15 days so i must travel out.......

Does any one know for sure the best / easiest country location to obtain my Non O IMM VISA ?

  10. How where you able to open a bank account in your name arriving on a 30 day stamp?

I opened a bank account in my name years ago on a tourist visa - I was later told this is illegal.

You need a non immigrant visa to open a bank account in your name?

    Hi

I opened a bank account 3 years ago ... on a 30 day visa - with Bangkok Bank in Chumphon

    No questions asked !!

I think i only had to show passport and address of where i was staying

  12. If you have 15 or more days remaining you could apply for a non immigrant visa entry at immigration. The apply for the extension of stay based upon reireement.

If you do not have 15 days you should make a trip to a nearby embassy or consulate to a apply for single entry non-o visa based upon being 50 or over.

Then during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry you will get on entry you would apply for an extension of stay based upon retirement. The 800k baht would need to be a Thai bank account in your name only for 60 days.

    Thanks for help

sadly ive gone passed my 15 days .... so it looks like a trip out to a nearby country

Any ideas of best / easiest country issuing the Non IMM Visa ?

    thanks

  13. I know this question must have been asked before but can anyone please advise / clarify the best Visa process for me ?

I am a British male citizen aged 56

I have a thai bank account with 1 million + Baht

I am at present holidaying in Rayong on a 30 Day Arrival T.6 -NO VISA !!!

I now wish to go through the Retirement visa process without having to return to Britain

As i have only arrived on a 30 Day visa exception / T.6 - What is my best course of action to obtain a retirement visa ?

    • which visa do i need to obtain - i think its a Single entry Non O Visa ?
    • Which is nearest country & cost for me to visit for this visa ?
    • when i return back into to Thailand does it matter if it is by land or Air entry ?
